  1. I've ended up making my own rules by mixing the ones published in Runequest - Vikings and Call of Cthulhu - Secrets of Morocco and adding a bit myself. The fact that the characters will be visiting a couple of gambling houses in the next adventures may mean that I'll need this rules often...

    • Potency of alcoholic drinks
Each alcoholic drink has a potency per unit (0.5 litres). When a character drinks, this potencies are accumulated.

      Alcoholic drink potency
      Drink Potency*
      Watered beer/ale 1
      Weak beer/ale 2
      Strong beer/ale 3
      Mead 5
      Weak wine 3
      Average wine 6
      Strong wine 9
potency may vary by as much as 3 points depending on brewer.

On the other hand, the accumulated potencies are reduced by 2 units per hour.
    • Effects
Each time the accumulated potencies increase to a multiple of the character's average of CON and SIZ, the player must succeed on a roll average x 5 - the accumulated potencies or otherwise increase one level.
      1. Lightheadedness
The first time the player fails the roll, all percentile rolls will be made at -10.
      2. Inebriation
The second time the player fails the roll, all percentile rolls will be made at 1/2.
      3. Drunken stupor
The third time the player fails the roll, all percentile roll will be made at 1/5.
      4. Unconsciousness
The fourth time the player fails the roll, the character falls unconscious.

    [*]Recovery

    • Lightheaded, inebriated or in drunken stupor
If the character is lightheaded, inebriated or in drunken stupor, he/she will recover after sleeping or otherwise he/she will decrease one level after 2 hours without having had to roll because of drinking alcohol. If the character has reached drunken stupor, he/she will be at -10 the next day unless the player rolls average x 5.
    • Unconscious
If the character falls unconscious, he/she will remain so for 1D10 + 2 hours. After that, he/she will sleep for 1D10 + 2 hours. The character will be at -10 the next day unless the player rolls average x 5.

    [*]Skill Drinking (25%)

The use of this skill represent the character's conditioning and approach to drinking. The skill is rolled before the character starts drinking. A success provides a temporary +2 to the character's average, increasing his/her probabilities of remaining sober or avoiding hangover. A critical success provides a temporary +4 to the character's average.

  2. Hello everybody,

One of my players' characters is a heavy drinker. Before attempting to create my own rules about the effects of alcohol, I'm sure this must have been covered somewhere before. Could anybody point me to the right material? Thanks.

    See you,

    Carlos

  3. The character won't be cursed since creation, he/she may be cursed during an adventure. But because he/she may be cursed for a while and I don't want to make it unplayable, I'll change it to 5-6.

What I meant when I said having very vivid nighmares and being unable to sleep was that you fall asleep, soon after you have a nightmare that wakes you up, and then you are unable to fall sleep for a while. And when you eventually manage, everything starts again. All in all, not a very restfull sleep.

I like Seneschal's idea, although not for this curse. Thank you all for your comments.

  4. Hello everybody,

I'm currently working on my campaign, and one of the PCs is likely to be cursed with very vivid and recurring nightmares and unable to sleep. I was thinking to roll 1D6 every morning:

    • 1 No nightmares. Able to sleep.
    • 2-3 Vivid nightmares, but able to sleep.
    • 4-6 Very vivid nightmares and unable to sleep.

And if unable to sleep, he/she has a -20% to all rolls the first day without sleep, -40% the second, -60% the third and so on. He/she also falls asleep in any suitable situation unless he/she succeeds in a CON roll x 5 the first day, x 4 the second, x 3 the third and so on. A night of sleep recovers 50%.

What do you think? By the way, I don't use SAN and I use simple fatigue. I doubt that rules about lack of sleep haven't been published...

    Regards,

    Carlos

  5. I don't know whether you have noticed that this weekend I've uploaded a Word and PDF version of my BRP screen to the downloads section. I know it's not great, but it's OK and I'm planning to improve it as I continue working on my campaign.

The screen is basically tables copied from the PDF version of the book and pasted in a 3 A4 landscape Word document. They are inserts for the Savage Worlds customizable screen (or a homemade alternative like mine).

Anyway, it would be great if you upload your screens too.

By the way, I've uploaded too an Excel and PDF version of my character sheet.

  6. I wanted to say that the optional rules that I use and affect the character sheet are:

    Skill Category Bonuses

    Literacy

    Random armor values

I also use the following house-rules:

    Merits and Flaws

    Fate Points

Finally, the skills available and the base chance are for an ancient culture.

I had also one question for the Excel experts. I've found working with this character sheet (in Excel 2007) that when you are editing it, it looks one way, but when you choose print preview or you print it, it looks slightly different. The text (including underscores) is slightly smaller horizontally. This messes up the "alignments" (look at the top right section). Any ideas?

  8. Well, ideally, anything "of use". That means any kind of material (games, supplements...) from the "BRP family" (BRP, Runequest and others) of any publisher (Chaosium, etc). I know that's a huge list, but any partial list would be much better than nothing.

  9. Firstly, I would like to clarify that by BRP I meant "BRP family" (including BRP, Runequest and others).

Secondly, Rurik is right, what I was looking for is what I understand by campaign; a very long adventure or a series of them interrelated. What some were suggesting, although very useful, are what I understand as settings; background information for your adventures and campaigns. Having said this, there are some books suggested by Soltakass that I haven't checked before. Thanks, I'll check them this weekend.

Finally, I know that ancient age is a very broad term, but I was not expecting to find many campaigns, so better to be opened to whatever could be available.
