My Alchemy and Artifice book should (hopefully ) be ready to post in a day or two.

In the mean time I've been working on my Mega-Dungeon. I'm going with RPtools Maptools for the mapping and will make it ready to use with that Virtual Table Top including NPC /Critter Tokens with MW stats attached to each token.

If any of you are looking for a VTT, I can't recommend Maptools more highly. What a powerful tool!

I've generated a (hopefully ) unique background for why the "dungeon " exists and I Hope you good people will tell me what you think and/or ideas you may have to make it even better.

The story is this: hundreds of years ago a convocation of Mentalists built a monastery atop one of the mountain ranges of the southern Copper Mountains, east of Carmenel Pass. They were nearly deified by a tribe of primitive humans living at the base of the mountains. One of these mentalists, a powerful Clairvoyant, had a premonition of a great calamity to take place. An extinction level event to happen within the next two generations. So strong is the vision that his brethren agree to a mighty task.

They enlist the humans living below to carve great chambers into the mountain.

The mentalists devise a power that causes creatures to enter a suspended animation of sorts. Turning them to living statues, locked in unmoving unaware stasis.

Creatures from all over what is now the Southern Reaches are brought in mated pairs, sometimes several pairs, and placed within the carved halls and natural caverns of their mountain. Here they wwould remain in stasis until the apocalyptic event passes and then be re-released to repopulate the World. A Noah's Arc, if you will.

The mentalists are a majority of Balance in Allegiance so, in order to maintain neutrality, they pick every type of creature that can reproduce. Humanoids and monster. Wildlife and magical beasts. Refusing to rule on what species lives and which do not, they pick indiscriminately. For nearly two hundred years the mountain is hollowed of rock and filled with the living statues of hundreds of different species. Then, when the foreseen time of troubles arrives, they seal up their ark, confident they will usher in the new world.

Like many doomsday prophesies the sun sets and rises on a new day. Then weeks. Months. A year passes and the world ending event never occurs.

Fighting breaks out among the brotherhood. Some becoming anxious to leave the false safety of the arc while others call for more and more patients. A disease starts to spread through the arc. Many die, causing civil strife. First harsh words, then fighting, then murders take place among them. The disease decimates the mentalists, turning their stone halls of hope into their tomb.

Now a couple hundred years later, the powerful enchantments that held the creatures of the Ark in stasis is waning. Hundreds of creatures are waking up in the dark tunnels... and they're hungry.

That sounds awesome. I love your work Chris, many thanks.

  2. This Tomb of the mad wizard is a good module. Very well written, gives some good flavor of the surroundings. The mythras combat cards come in handy too. Not to mention Mythic Britain, Logres  and Mythic Rome which I have yet to get. Then of course, the world of Greymoor. Hope Rob is not to burnt out on the project. Great work on all these books anyway, very enjoyable, especially the history.

You do know that if you order a physical copy directly from the Design Mechanism, you get the PDF for free? No reason to have to wait.

    Rod

Yes I buy from Aeon games and get the PDF also but I much prefer to read from the real thing. In saying that I still browse the PDF's but wait to read the whole thing when the book arrives. A bit of old school mentality. Never been to New Jersey :).

  4. For sure, send me 10 copies :D . Minute meteors, sounds interesting, great to hear that there are new spells coming along too. I have been looking at mythic Britain and Logres for some source material and fresh ideas, and by all accounts they are very well done, but I still prefer a world with a strong fantasy element such as Greymoor will be.

I think your should learn a haste spell, it will then be finished in a few weeks. :P

  5. Hi Rod,

I was reading Classic Fantasy the other day and noticed the ends of the pages were a little discoloured. No doubt caused by my grubby paws continually turning the pages. The mythras core rule book also has a little of the same. Was there any thought to blackening the ends of the pages to avoid this?

The books are very good quality so I hoped it might be an option somewhere down the line. Hope the unearthed companion is going well, very much looking forward to it, cheers.

    Mark.

  6. Just some more questions about Blackmoor... will there be any detailed groups of barbarian and or Orc tribes? Way of life, rules on hunting, gathering fishing etc? And will there be details about the local Flora and Fauna, gatherable herbs etc. They had guidelines like this in Harnmaster which I found interesting but maybe some people find them unnecessary.

  7. What about a magazine like the old white dwarf? Focusing on the Classic fantasy and Mythras RPG's. Just a thought. I used to love that magazine, sitting in my mates sleepout, staring at the pages in young wonder, while my freind made up an AD&D adventure. Ah the good old days

  8. Thanks Rod, it certainly sounds like you have everything covered in regards to Greymoor. I look forward to getting the violent delights module to check out the map as described. Great news that there are plans for a vast dungeon area too. Things are looking promising indeed.

    Cheers Mark.

  9. Just purchased these violent delights, unable to get the PDF as yet. I was wondering (yet again) if in Greymoor will there exist any factions of Demi humans such as dwarf cities and elven wooded realms, hobbit shires and the like? I hope this is the right area to be asking  these questions. Also, would there be a possibility of an epic module along the lines of the temple of elemental evil in any future undertakings?

Apologies if I ask so many questions but I'm really quite stoked that classic fantasy has come along and really enjoy the flavour of it, it takes me back to the good old days of role playing for me.  :)

  10. Just thinking about the World of Greymoor, I assume the majority of the characters would be based on Classic Fantasy within the world, but would there be any characters based on Mythras like Shamans etc that populate Greymoor? The books are so compatible I thought I would ask, cheers.

You can definitely expect a detailed map of Greymoor and the surrounding kingdoms and territories. I've been playing my campaigns in Greymoor for more then 20 years.

    Rod

Ok, monthly modules, new information on CF and a detailed map of the Greymoor. The news just keeps getting better. Cheers Rod.

  12. Fantastic stuff. I will snap them up as they come out. Will be like starting my role playing career all over again. I'm sure in unearthed companion we will find plenty of excellent material too. I am secretly hoping for a detailed map in Greymoor much like the ones ICE used in their MERP modules. The small map in terror of Ettinmoor had some good detail. Maybe too much to ask, I'm sure Mr Leary has more than enough on his plate.  :P

Yes, there is a map and information, but nothing released yet.

Greymoor will be fully detailed in the Unearthed Companion, plus you will be getting glimpses of it in the upcoming adventures, as I worked with each writer to make sure the adventure fit in Greymoor, while remaining as setting neutral as possible.

    Rod

I'm new to Mythras and have bought the classic fantasy, expert set and Ettin marsh module. I used to love the flavour of AD&D many years ago and when I read about classic fantasy I was sold. After going through the books the nostalgia hit me and am looking forward to anything related that comes out. The Ettin marsh module is classic AD&D for me and I love it. I remember for me the old UK modules where the best, more realism with a bit of grit.

For me it captures the original spirit of the game but with a far better rule set. The Mythras combat system and character creation is extremely well done and when you put classic fantasy next to it, it is the ultimate RPG for me. Well done for everyone involved. Is there a module coming out every month for classic fantasy I heard? Or am I mistaken.
