  1. I just finished perusing your work. I lol'd (in a good way!) seeing all those old Monster Manual pics. (And lol'd harder at the more unique additions like real pictures of jaguars, screen captures from Clash of the Titans, etc.) I love it.

If you want some feedback, I'd say the following:

    1) Add page numbers

    2) 'Fix' the excel borders to be uniform for all cells. Or, better yet, simplify the tables to eliminate borders and (possibly?) shading. Left justify text, right justify numbers. It will help the tables 'fit' in.

    3) I don't have a copy of Magic World, but I am wondering if all the spells listed for some of the tougher baddies (Asmodeus, Demogorgon, etc.) are fully fleshed out and available in the core mechanics?

    4) Some of the tables are overlapping descriptions. Not many, but some.

    5) Align tables when it makes sense to do so.

Hope that list isn't too frustrating since I haven't added specific page numbers and you may wonder wtf I am talking about. Apologies for that....I saw your request and took a really quick look to make sure your efforts received feedback.

Wondering if anyone has Downloaded this yet? Any comments/criticism? I'd like some feedback before I print off a hard copy and I know I can count on you good folks to set me straight first. :)
  2. I was happy with funding OpenQuest2, and now I've happily thrown a few coins into the pot for this one too.

@Questbird: I wish I could say I've been happy with funding OpenQuest2 like you. It is because of Newt's lack of ability to deliver on missed milestone after missed milestone from the OQ2 campaign that I am sitting this one out. I can't help but feel burned by a campaign that began in 2012 with intent of delivering by Christmas of the same year, not delivering on most of the promised pieces as of this writing (14-ish months later). I started off a defender of Newt's when timelines ran horribly out of control, going so far as to publicly praise him for ensuring high quality at the expense of timeliness. However, those feelings have faded and now I have grown quite upset that there are no updates (for over a month) and Newt is here, shilling for his next project while being laughably late with his previous promises. In fact, perhaps the most damning aspect of the whole debacle has been the total lack of communication through the ordeal. No updates for stretches longer than a month? How hard is it to pop-in and say something?

    Nope. Not again.

  3. As stated, it requires an improvement point to make the magic point store permanent. If an improvement point is not used then the item is not reusable. (P.107)

Fly is based on POW. Tap appears to be based on Magnitude of the spell with the limitation that the characteristic to be tapped must not be greater than the magnitude of the spell (P.164)

I have 2 questions concerning very specific points in magic:

-Is it still possible to create one-use magic points storage matrices without spending any Improvement Rolls ? In my view, this was a huge game breaker, given a magician can create lots of those between 2 sessions.

-Are Fly and Tap Sorcery spells still based on the MRQ1 version rather than the RQ3 version ? For instance, is Fly based on the sorcerer's POW rather than the spell's Intensity ?

  4. Sorry about that title. ;D

    Folks,

The end is drawing near on a very successful OpenQuest funding project over at indiegogo:

    OpenQuest 2nd Edition Pre-order | Indiegogo

...but, in the remaining days (4 as I write this) there is one remaining stretch goal that needs a wee bit of last minute oomph to hit. Won't you head over and support?

At least consider it as the supplements that Newt creates are broadly compatible with BRP....plus, nice printed versions are awesome. It won't take much to seal the deal....

    Later.

  5. Wonder why this topic got dropped....

Would love for Newt to try and respond to this. PLUS....we need to get another 10-20 folks to contribute to the indiegogo to hit that last (and awesome!) stretch goal:

    OpenQuest 2nd Edition Pre-order | Indiegogo

Will you clarify some ambiguous combat rules of OQ1 in OQ2? For example, OQ1 have 3 types of movement: move, sprint, and fighting retreat. Move is a free action, but list within a group of actions that only one can be picked in a round. But the rule never mentioned that whether we can combine two movements within the same round, i.e. fighting retreat then move, or move then sprint. And fighting retreat is used specifically when engaged, but the engagement never defined in OQ. So newcomers may wonder why pick fighting retreat instead of move. And engagement should be defined and clarified that are we only engaged when starting close combat with other characters or is it enough to be considered engaged if we walk pass an close range from active enemy.
  6. Mr. wbcreighton,

Quite a generous offer...let me know if/when something firms up with your thinking. With the exception of the week after next (Sept 10-17), my schedule is flexible. I am not currently a fantasy grounds owner, but I will be if things work out. I tend to run linux on my pc's, and based on what I have read, I might need to get a version of Windows before I take the plunge.

    Thanks again!

I'm betting that a few folks around here might be interested too....

  7. Sorry, doofstructor, my BRP campaign on Fantasy Grounds went south due to lack of interest.

As I wrote you in a PM, I have moved on to a more accepted game system that allows me to play Sci-Fi in a local group - it uses a d20, but is luckily extremly far away of being comparable with the "d20 system".

A bit of marketing really would have helped, but there is next to none in my area and people even do not know BRP at all.

Oh man...truer words were ne'er spoken. Insane pity that you are so on the mark with your reply. This frustrates me to no end and makes me rue the day I picked up the BGB. How could something so awesome only tempt and not deliver? If I could only participate in a handful of sessions I would gladly attempt GM'ing for others, but I fear that without some exposure to the game by way of someone with experience my attempts would be less than desirable.

Thanks for the replies folks. Guess I need to look into something else. *sniff* :(

  8. Well Blackfoot was trying to test out his RQ2 conversion on Fantasy Grounds on the Guildhouse forum. Have you seen that ? He is your time zone and he is looking for players to play Apple Lane.

I did see that...but also saw the party list was already quite large, and I am not familiar with RQ2....that is to say, I know about its history and inclusion (more or less) in the BGB, but I don't know which of the BGB rules apply....I guess I need to go throw my hat in the ring on that.

    Thanks!

  9. So, I bought the BGB the other day and read through the entire thing with grubby, sweaty paws. I was hooked immediately! Why, oh why did it take me this long to find something that just seems to work for whatever you want to throw at it with minimal confusion?

I am a very old, long ago, AD&D player who happened to buy Stormbringer 4th ed and wanted immediately to switch waaaaay back after reading it. But, alas, I was getting older, folks were moving away and ........ nothing came of it.

I really don't care what the scenario is, i just want someone far more adept than me to run something I can play using MapTools, Open RPG, Fantansy Grounds.....whatever. I've tried finding something locally, FGS, obsidian portal....even Fantasy Grounds where Vudo was (is?) trying to start something, but I haven't been able to find anything.

I really want to embrace my youth and let my imagination reign again.

Can someone help? If it matters (i know it kinda does) I'm EDT (GMT -5 right now, I think) and could only do evenings and weekends, but I would so love to play. Classic Fantasy (by Rod Leary) looks like something I would totally dig, but I am up for anything.

Anyone? I'm sure there would be others that might be interested.

  10. Matt, I am mega-curious to hear more about your impressions of Gen Con in general or in detail. What were the highlights? Anything new on the horizon that knocked your socks off? Etc. Etc. I've had a hard time finding a Gen Con 2011 blog that gives significant detail....
