  1. Hullo, jp1885, That's what I thought as well, and yet the four mundane pre-generated characters at the back of the book don't get Magic Points. Furthermore, on page 54, under Investigators with Magic, that is the only part of character creation that mentions how many Magic Points the character receives - when creating a practitioner. That's why I wondered whether characters who don't take the Magical Advantage don't start with Magic Points. Thoughts?
  2. Hullo, jp1885, Hadn't considered "Fairy Cakes" for one of the one-shot convention type scenarios. Will have to look at that one again. Having looked over Adam's case files, I didn't really think that any of them would work for convention games. Maybe we just have to all team up and write one ourselves? 🙂
  3. Hullo, Greville, To be honest, I printed out around 50 pages of material to serve as my "GM Screen in a Binder", but that largely included some maps, some of the charts for rolling signare/vestigia, and the weapons charts. Stuff that I feel should be on the GM Screen include: Melee Weapon Chart Firearms Weapon Chart The 4 Ees Which Characteristic Should I Use Firearms Table (page 132) Cover Protection Table Other Forms of Damage Table Vehicle Table Mastered Versus Unmastered Spells Ranged Attack Modifiers and a few other things. That would be just the basics, to be honest. 🙂
  4. Hullo, folks, A bit confused about something... I've noticed with various pre-generated characters for the game that some characters get Magic Points, but others don't seem to have them. So... When players generate characters, do they all get starting Magic Points regardless of whether they are practitioners? Thanks, in advance. 🙂
  5. Hullo, g33k, Umm...yeah, that would be a bit of a commute! 🙂 Oh, well, perhaps we'll get a chance to meet up at a convention at some point and play there.
  6. Hullo, jp1885, Yeah, I figured "Speed Demons" might be too long to run at a convention, so had thought of the other two you mention as possibles. I know the folks at Chaosium have a couple (perhaps more?) convention scenarios they use, but don't know anything about them as yet. Hopefully they'll release them to us poor mugs at some point down the road. I'll be needing one or two of them come May of 2024. 🙂
  7. Hullo, jp1885, Will definitely let you know when I get a chance to run "Speed Demons"! Out of curiosity, do you think it would be suitable to run at a game convention in a 4-hour slot? Oh, and thanks for posting Adam's latest case file. Read over it, and like a lot of it but the focus on military characters doesn't really appeal to me. Won't stop me from running it at some point, though I'll have to tweak it somewhat.
  8. Hullo, g33k, Bear in mind that Alex Caldwell was the very first character that I created for myself for the Rivers of London: The Roleplaying Game, and to be honest, I wasn't really sure what kind of first encounter with the supernatural and the demi-monde fit the computer programmer that I'd created. If I were to ever get to play the character in a game, I think I would change that part of the backstory, but would still keep Harriet involved somehow. If you live in the Ottawa area, you're more than welcome to play in my Sunday group. 🙂
  9. Hullo, folks, For those who might be interested in such things, I have posted up to my blog a couple of very detailed examples of investigator character creation for the Rivers of London: The Roleplaying Game. I present links to the blog entries here: Alex Caldwell, computer programmer and amateur historian Fraser Nottingham, journalist and practitioner Thoughts on the two characters are welcome at the blog, or here in the thread. Enjoy! 🙂
  10. Hullo, folks, I've now run seven sessions of the Rivers of London: The Roleplaying Game on my two groups (3 with the Friday group, and 4 with the Sunday group), not including the Session Zero stuff for both groups, and have come to a same old revelation: This game needs a *bleep!, bleep!* GM Screen!!! (Too much stuff to remember for my 68-year-old brain, and too many little charts and tables and summaries of terms that might/might not be needed at any give time.) Is there any word from the folks at Chaosium or whomever about whether we'll be getting a GM Screen for the game? If not, has anyone in the game fandom created a GM Screen for the game, and if so, would you be willing to share? Pretty please! 🙂
  11. Hullo, jp1885, Just finished reading your new scenario, "Speed Demons." Really enjoyed that case file, and can't wait to run it. Just brilliant! 🙂
  12. Hullo, jp1885, I'm glad to hear that you're working on another case file, as I loved the three that you wrote. Keep up the good work, even though it always is hard going! 🙂 As for Facebook, I don't use it any longer after a very bad experience there and some nasty virus stuff. Any chance of getting some links to the new case files from there? Or perhaps e-mail me the said case files if that would work better. Thanks. 🙂
  13. Hello, Silverfoxdmt73, I hope that sales are good enough to show there's demand for more than just the Core rulebook and the U.S. sourcebook, but it seems that they've turned their attention to the new Call of Cthulhu version and material for it. That said, after copying 49 pages from the rulebook to put together a GM Screen and some sheets under plastic protectors, I really do hope there is a GM Screen at some point (soon)! Umm... I have only seen three fan-created Case Files for the game. Got links to some others? 🙂
  14. Hey, folks, So now that the Rivers of London: The Roleplaying Game sold out at UK Games Expo in three hours on Friday, does this mean there might be enough of a demand for a GM Screen for the game? 🙂 Pretty please, Chaosium? 🙂
  15. Hullo, jp1885, Any chance that you can post the link to that music video here? Thanks, in advance. 🙂
  16. Hullo, Silverfoxdmt73, That's pretty much the plan. (But it did bear repeating and all here.) 🙂
  17. Hullo, Cloud64, I am somewhat familiar with the novels by Ben Aaronovitch, as I've read the first four or so, and have all but the last three. And I just ordered several of the graphic novel comics, since I might be able to use them for plots (heh). I wouldn't say that Rivers of London was a page turner, as to be honest, it bogged down in a few places, but am starting to re-read the series from the beginning, and it's much easier reading the second time around. Yeah, the police procedural stuff for the UK is a bit of a brain teaser for folks from North America, I suspect, but I have a fondness for some British police shows, and to be honest, having been born in the UK (but have lived in Canada since I was 12 years old), I'm a bit more...familiar with the UK legal and police system (though it has changed over the decades, of course). That said, I understand there's a good chapter in the book covering this element of the game. In terms of the player characters, I plan to try and run the game along the lines of the first book in the series, with the players characters slowing getting involved with magic and the like, so having the players take the role of non-magical characters and spellcasting seems the good road to take. Since it seems players can create characters who can learn magic later, this doesn't seem to be a problem. I hope. 🙂
  18. Hullo, folks, One of the things I've noticed while browsing the Rivers of London RPG PDF is that there seems to be a lot of charts and tables and other useful bits that will make a lot of flip-flopping around the book. Is there any chance that a RoL RPG GM Screen is going to be put out, preferably in a nice, hardcover format? Other than the usefulness to me as a 67-year-old GM for the game and having all the charts handy, it would also make for good advertising for the game at conventions and the like when folks are running it. Adding a new scenario to the GM Screen as a paper booklet would also make it worthwhile... Just saying'... 🙂
  19. Hullo, folks, Question for those in the know... How difficult will running the Rivers of London RPG be for someone who hasn't read much in the way of the book series, or who hasn't read the novels at all? For that matter, how difficult will it be for players new to the world be to play characters and get into the game world? What sort of guidelines would you give to a GM new to the game and its world, and the same question for the new player to this game world? Thanks, in advance. 🙂
  20. Hullo, folks, Just received my e-mail notification that my copy of the Rivers of London RPG hardcover has shipped! Yay! 🙂 Should be here in Ottawa, Ontario some time in the next week or so, depending on whether it gets stopped at Customs or not. Can't wait to get my hands on the game! 🙂
