  1. Hey everyone,

there are a couple of things to notice:

    • The Mac version unfortunately doesn't work. You can test it on http://brp-tool.cursaro.it/ though.
Not all of the animations work correctly there. But I guess it's better than nothing.

    • The icons I used are based on "fontawesome". Unfortunately the tool didn't include the font when exporting, so you have to install the font locally to see them correctly -.-'
You can install the one in the attachment or download it here: http://fontawesome.io/#modal-download
Just click on download, skip the popup by clicking the button at the bottom "No thanks, ...", save and unpack it.
After that open the fonts folder and install the font.

    • The registration/login in the mockup are fake, there is no logic behind it. You can enter whatever you want (in general for any page).
But for the real tool I need a login, because I need a way to connect the campaigns and characters to your account. But there won't be any "data collection" or alike.

I added some screenshots so you get an idea of how the mockups look like.

  2. Hey everyone,

it's been quite a while, but I've finally managed to finish the design ;D

I know, it doesn't sound like much, especially regarding the time it took, but a lot of thinking went into it, and I redid it several times 'til I had a satisfying result.
I've tried to make sure to include all important functionalities and still make it look clear, intuitive and comfortable.
The mockups are only a "rough draft", meaning it's more about the layout, descriptions, etc. The colors are not final, and it obviously will not look as flat as in the demo.

But I'd appreciate it, if you would test it and give me feedback.

I planned to upload it as HTML on my page, but the exporter is a little buggy, so you unfortunately have to download the .exe (window) or .app (mac) to test it.
But I swear I didn't hide any virus in there! :P

You can download the programm here:
    BRP-Tool.cursaro.it/BRP_Tool_v3-Win.zip
    BRP-Tool.cursaro.it/BRP_Tool_v3-Mac.zip

I've included the nav panel on the left, so you can switch between pages more easily (and have a little more control over it).
The pages are 1024 x 768 px, so you best test them on desktop. Tablet should work, too, but the input fields will most likely be too close to each other.

I hope you enjoy exploring it and am looking forward to hear your opinion (even if I don't promise I'll adapt everything).

  3. So, I've thought about the split between GM and Player, and came up with this:

    Structure2.thumb.png.39083964e7902c78cbe

The idea is, that the user logs in and sees all the campaigns he/she is assigned to (as Player or GM).

If a user creates a new campaign, he/she is set as the GM and all other members as Players.
In the settings, the GM can also change the member rights from Player to GM, e.g. if there are multiple GMs in a campaign.

In the Settings - Preferences the user can change the Start Page to whatever suits best for him/her.

For the moment, I'll go with the Combat screen only for the GM. At some later point I want to make it synchonized with / streamed to the Players as well, but that's probably gonna be a lot of work, which is why I'll do that when the rest is working at its basic.

  4. It's gonna be a web application, so you can access it from any platform. (but created for bigger screens, such as tablets and desktop, no smartphone)

I'll use HTML, CSS, Javascript and PHP, and I'm probably going to upload it to my website/hoster, so you don't need to install a server locally.
The code will be open source, too, so if you want to, you can upload it on a private website, or even add new features ;)

  5. Ah, sorry, maybe it wasn't clear enough...
GM means, that I don't code any restriction at all. The GM (or the player, with the permission of the GM) can assign any item, no matter its value, to any character, without having the character pay for it in any way.

It is also important, because depending on the system, I'll implement a "price" input on the equipments, or I won't.

Of course, if the "money" system is chosen, the GM has the option to simply set all prices to 0, so you still can equip anything you like.
But if there is a price of 50, and a character has only 48, he/she can't buy it.
On the other hand, if no money system is used, you still can note the character's money in his profile, but it won't be automatically calculated if you buy or sell something.

  6. You got the idea of the tool correctly ;)

I did separate lists from characters, because I think you usually add professions/skills/equipment at the beginning of a campaign and then stuck with it, rarely add new equip or so. Therefore I think it would inflate(?) the characters section unnecessarily, if it's all integrated into one.

    To be clear:
The Lists section is only to manage the lists, meaning editing, deleting and creating the professions, skills, powers and equipment you can add to the characters.
In the Characters section, you manage the characters and assigning the available skills, equip etc to characters.

The thing next to the human character is simply a fantasy creature, as there aren't only humanoid chars and Creatures have their own section in there, too :P

I will also integrate a auto-character creation function.

@jux: I'll take a look at it, thanks :) I'll add a print-version of the characters as well, but I haven't thought about it much so far (how it should look, etc).

  7. It will support all genres. And it will be intelligent enough to show only the professions/skills/weapons assigned to that genre ;)
I'll also filter the weapons according to the character's STR/DEX, so you only see weapons you actually can wear.

In general, I'll integrate all the basic lists of BRP, but you'll be able to create new ones, too.

  8. Hey everyone :)

I've redesigned the tool a tiny bit and currently started doing first implementations of the overall structure.

I'd like you to take a look at the structure for the tool (main and sub menus), as it is still quite easy to change right now:
    Structure.thumb.PNG.24a3898321191ceba466

Does it seem reasonable to you? Or would you change something?

If any of the names are unclear, just ask and I'll give a short explanation to the menu/submenu.

Right now it looks like this:

What do you think of the icons? Are they clear enough? (home will be on the logo button)

  9. It will still take quite some time to finish it... Even though I'm going to work on it every week, it will probably take some months, as it is a very big project, and I have to do it on my own, in my spare time.

I'll develop it gradually, adding new modules over time, so you can already use it, starting with the characters, then the lists (items etc), rolls, combat and the story part in the end. And I have to see if the tool should be usable by all players, using different user rights, or if it's only meant to run on the GMs pc/tablet. The first one would take even longer, as I'd need to somehow create a shared database and synch it, which I have absolutely no experience in so far.

  10. Hey everyone :)

So I finally finished by bachelor thesis! You can read it here, if you're interested:

    The mighty BRP Tool

But there's still a lot to do. I didn't get as far as I wanted too, and I wanna redesign some things, so I'll do a least one more design iteration and probably make some smaller polls with you people (and I really mean small, like one question per time ;P) to see what you'd prefer.

When I've finished the design, I will implement the tool.

  11. Thanks for thinking about me, but you can keep the Javascrip fun for yourself (no offence). It's just that I am too busy with the 'other' character tool here in the forum and I have a lot of stuff I want to put into it. Even recycle stuff from my old BRP NPC tool that can be found here in the forum as well.

    Hehe ^^
Yeah, I can understand that ;)

  12. Hey everyone :)

I have two questions concerning the character creation - skills.

When creating the character, you choose a profession and got a certain amount of professional and personal skill points to distribute.
The rulebook also recommands a skill cap, depending on the campaign level (75% for normal).

    My questions now are:

    1. When distributing the skill points, do you add them from 0 or from the base chance?
So, if you have a skill with base chance 25% and increase it to 75%, do you subtract 50 points or 75 points from the skill points pool?

    2. When using the caps, do you add skill bonuses and weapon base chance on top of the skill to calculate the caps or not?
E.g. If I have a category bonus for Communication that is 9%, can you max your skills only to 66%, so the total is 75%,
or do you still increase them up to 75%, regardless of the category bonus?
E.g. And if you have a skill e.g. melee (sword) and using a bastard sword, do you add the base chance of the sword on top of the skill (as with the category bonus),
or can you have the skill up to 75%, no matter what sword you're equipped with? (that depends on how you handle question 1, too)

    Thanks in advance!

  13. Hey everyone :)

So, I've made an overview of the functions I want to implement in a first full version. For the prototype/thesis some of the functions might be cut off, for I only have 2 weeks time.
But that should be the basic tool. After that, I will probably implement more of the optional rules etc. one after the other.

The File is quite big, so don't be shocked ^^'
That's why I had to put it on dropbox. Here is the link:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/a2kj0mhkfnpulpg/Activity-Diagram.png?dl=0

It shows all the functions that a user can use. Starting point is the black cirle on the left.
There might come some small changes on the accessibility, but the overall functions should stay the same.

I (unfortunately) have to do another survey on some criteria soon.
But it is much shorter than the last one and should only take 5 - 10 min to complete.

At the end of it, you can enter your email address, then I'll send you a link to download the prototype (result of the thesis) and later on the full version, when it's done.
