  1. I contributed to the Kickstarter years ago, have a copy on the shelf, but have never run it. I'm not sure if I ever will.

I think it's great as a sourcebook for Dreamlands play but was never that impressed with the campaign. The beginning is so painfully rail-roady that it colored my perspective on the rest of the product.

Start time for the RuneQuest Classic Edition Kickstarter is tomorrow (Friday) at 7am EST!  12 Noon GMT

Are you/Chaosium planning on having backer levels that only a limited number of backers can participate in? (Kind of early bird specials, I guess, that I've seen with other Kickstarters). If so, that's unfortunate for myself, and other PSTers. I love RQ2, but I also love sleep.

  3. Looks very promising. I read on another forum a comment about a leatherette, gold-foil edition. If that's actually planned, it could be quite tempting.

(I'm a bit of a greedy bastard and own 2 copies of the Reston Pub. version of RQ2. So I don't really need a deluxe/classic/premium edition. But, greed being what it is I'll still be tempted to get this new version).

  4. Here's a couple of thoughts:

You need to finish up the visual design of the site. The new Chaosium banner looks great, but I think you need to decide whether you want to use that banner across all forums and features, or use it only for portions like the main forum view, downloads, gallery, blogs, etc. Right now that Chaosium banner shows up on each forum besides Renaissance, OpenQuest, and AEON. (And possibly more. That's what I found from a quick search). Either go uniform; or use the branded banners in conjunction with the Chaosium banner; or use only branded for 3rd parties. Whatever you decide, have some consistency.

Personally, I like the branded banners for each forums. They're just aesthetically appealing to me, serve as a subtle visual reminder of where I'm viewing the thread from, and just reinforce the beauty of the art from a number of these game lines. It pretties up the place. :)

I do think that the branded banners could use some cleaning up. Those that I found include the barroom image just to the right of "BRP Central", and the game line image to the right of that. I'd say nix that so that the game lines' image abuts "BRP Central" and save the barroom image as what's used for Alastor's Skull Inn.

I wouldn't be much of a fan of changing the name of the forum, but a vote does seem in order. One thought is that the site's domain name reflects BRP. Would that add any confusion if you're browsing to that URL but you're getting a forum named Chaos Central or Worlds of Wonder?

  5. Any BRPers in the Seattle area looking for a gaming group?

After a gaming-lull of a few months, I'm getting a group together in the West Seattle neighborhood and am looking to find a 3rd player. We'll likely be playing quite a bit of Call of Cthulhu (6th edition) set in different time periods, but will alternate between a few other systems on occasion, including different flavors of BRP.

We'll be getting together mostly on Sunday afternoons, and will average about 2-3 sessions a month. We all have busy lives with work and family responsibilities, so don't expect an ironclad schedule - there'll be some rescheduled sessions, but we'll be very organized about it.

PM me if you have an interest, a sparkling personality, and basic transportation.

  6. Lol, yes, I know. How about the unmarked module to the right of the corridor? A bit crammed for a full bathroom perhaps, but not impossible. At tech level 12 (?) they must have shrunk those facilities at least to the size of an iPhone, right?

I kind of fancy that unmarked module as a weapons locker, or vacc suit and EVA equipment storage. Good location for the latter. Maybe not great for the former.

I'd probably suggest an additional piece of "furniture" in each room used for hygiene purposes. Or some kind of hygiene station. Just some random thoughts.

What is the module aft of the crew quarters? Cargo bay? Between crew quarters and what I would assume is the engineering section.

  7. Here's the last version of Star Hawk (now renamed Nighthawk). Not as minimalistic, but a few more details could perhaps be added for clarity.

Someone needs to install a fresher/water-closet/sonic shower on the Nighthawk! Something! ;)

More seriously, I quite like the blueprint ascetic of your deckplans.

  8. What extra information would you like next to a deckplan? Stats, hit locations? Or are those better to keep in a separate place?

I'd suggest leaving stats, hit locations, etc. to a separate Ship Sheet. Otherwise your deckplan could get rather cluttered, especially in the case of larger ships with multiple decks.

At the very least, I'd recommend a map key that includes square sizes and a definition of map objects (those that aren't evident just looking at them). Bonus points for exterior drawings of the ship, from one or more angles.

This is kind of an example, although is too busy for me.

  9. I've bookmarked that site in the past, and keep meaning to check out that webcomic but never have gotten around to it.

How's the writing? The visual appearance is stunning; there's something about the coloring, tones and vividness, that I find very appealing.

Have they ever considered putting out a printed version, either through POD or perhaps crowdfunding through a Kickstarter?

  10. I voted for one, but I think it really depends on the volume of discussion that each of these systems generates. It doesn't make sense to have sub-forums if there's a chance that one system might get just a trickle of discussion. Maybe start off with one and then subdivide if you're seeing significant conversation from each system?

  11. 3. Walk into game stores and ask the clerks if they have anything for Runequest, Call of Cthulhu, BRP, Glorantha, Legend, d100, OpenQuest, etc. Mention the names of companies. A good clerk will mention this to the manager. A good manager will ask the distributor about these names.

I don't know what the gaming scene is like in some parts of the US or world. But game stores are a dying breed in my neck of the woods. Many in the area have dried up and blown away over the years/decades leaving little to choose from. The only store I frequent is a hybrid comic-shop/game store, and the only reason I think it's survived is that it has diversified. Fortunately, they do carry a good selection of Rpgs, including BRP material from a number of publishers.

There are a handful of other stores scattered around the metropolitan area, but they seem sharply focused on boardgames, CCGs, and a very limited scope of Rpgs (D&D, Shadowrun, FFG Star Wars). I suspect that you'd have quite a job on your hands convincing them to carry BRP product that might not move quickly and just tie up valuable (rotating) shelf space.

    4. Write and submit work to Chaosium, Alephtar, Mongoose, Moon Design, Design Mechanism, and other game publishers. They can't publish stuff if no one's writing it.

I think this is some of the best advice I've seen.

If I could add to the 'list of things' suggested, I'd say organize locally. Seek out BRP gamers in the area to establish a community of sorts; attend local conventions and run BRP games; organize a BRP Meetup.com group and schedule monthly events.

Saying this, I could use to eat some of my own dog food. I've been mulling over starting a Meetup group for Call of Cthulhu, or BRP, for some time. If D&D, Storygames, or hell, even Gurps can muster a Meetup fanbase why not CoC or BRP?

  12. Not sure where this puts CoC 7E however. A flagship setting that is not using the core build may be a issue, and it makes me wonder that if it survives to be CoC 8E it could possibly be further tweaked to be consistent with the BRP Essentials - pure speculation.

It does seem a little odd that they're going to maintain this system divergence rather than have a single BRP-version to rule them all, across game-lines.

    • "RuneQuest" will be a slimmed down rule- and settingbook for Glorantha, with gloranthan cults and other stuff following.

    Interesting.

    • 32-page core rules will be based on RuneQuest 6 and they want new settings to be self-contained with the rules.

Hallelujah. I was hoping that they weren't going to use CoC7 as the model for the core rules.

That's going to be a pretty stripped-down RQ6 to fit that page-count. I can't imagine they'd be able to fit in much of the way of Special Effects, nor culture/occupation detail. Much less a magic system of any kind.

    • Old RuneQuest 2 will be put back in print!

Nice. I hope they release it as a "deluxe" or anniversary edition, much like Wotc's premium reprints. Personally, I've got a few copies of RQ2, so if it's just a basic POD it won't really appeal to me.
