Sorry to hear that. My 82 year old mum had a heart attack in June.

Sorry, is she fine now? :(:(

Many of these costumes derived from court dress in the Late Roman Empire.

That's true ! And by the way, the official title of the pope is "maximus pontifex", the same as the former hight priest of Jupiter !

But it was court dress, not day to day dress. Event in late roman empire, priests wear another costume. So, my question stay : do you think an Ulerian wears something diffrerent in Temple and outside? I think yes, may be a more conservative dress outside (like p 244 for Pavis:GtA) and something more light (like in the paint you posted) inside.

Which may be a 'local' style, derived from the fairly strict Yelmalion dress code. The Uleria temple in Pavis is in Sun Town...

yes, that's my question : do you think costumes can vary from country to another one? I can imagine barebreast in Esrolia, dressed in white or white and green in Sartar not barebreast but short dresses, and in Pavis, like page 244. Something official to confirm or infirm that?

  2. Thank you all fo you for answering to my question :)

Sorry to being absent for a while but my father was at hospital, heart attack, he is 85 yo, but he is home now.

I think so, too.  The questions are:  WHEN and WHERE would a priest/ess of these deities (and Uleria in particular, for the thread at hand) wear something similar?  High Holy Days only?  All services or rituals?  Whenever they are in the temple?  Only when in view of others?  Out in public?   And also:  TO WHAT DEGREE of similarity would they be expected to emulate the garb?  When/where/why & how much are they allowed (or required) to depart from any "general" standard?

I think they wear theses specific costumes only for holly days, and another costume for going out,  like catholic priests

the only one official source i got is Pavis GtA, page 244, about the specific costume weared by a Ulerian who go out with a body guard : white linen underdress and white silk dress, no barebreast but the dress is splitted to see legs. That's remember me "les merveilleuses", a fashion style in Paris on 1800s.

I wouldn't be surprised if, in Esrolia, Ulerian initiates and priestesses aren't more demure in their costume that others. The costume of Samha on page 244 of Pavis:GtA might be imported from Esrolia: certainly the linen and perhaps the silk are.

Uleria is worshipped as Esrola in Dragon pass, so maybe the priestress wear a costume like others Esrolan preistress?

In Esrola, if i had understand, Uleria is worshipped as himself, not a subcult. So perhaps the priestress wear a distinctive costume, like the one in Pavis. Like you said, silk is not a product from Pavis, it must be imported from Shadowland in Kethaela. (trolls are great producers of silk because of aranae & gorakiki cults)

So, is this distinctive costume like you can see page 244 in Pavis GtA, the same all over genertela?

Did anybody ever run the Craddle scenario as a battle à la warhamster or whatever else ?

Nope. But i ran the "battle of auroch hill". my players were in charge but not command a unit, only a group of warriors.

  5. Hi !

I use my own allocate rules :

    1) each stat starts at 8 (for a human)

    2) you can up Stats with 40 Points : 1 => 1 until 12, 2 => 1 until 14, 3 => 1 until 16, 4 => 1 until 18

    3) you can down a Stat to get more points (1 for 1) but INT & SIZ can't been downed.

ps : there is 7 Stats not only 6 in RQ2

  6. I found this in "new pavis encounters" from "pavis : gateway to adventure, p 244 : "When outside of the Uleria temple, Samha wears exotic and titillating clothes of silk and linen, and a grand golden necklace."

I don't know if i can post the picture or not (because of copyright) but if you got the book, check page 244.

Actually, I was thinking "whatever fits into the local culture, and makes the worshipers most comfortable."  Their sacred duty, after all, is not to be provocative/titillating (unless maybe in such a sexually-repressive culture that Uleria call them to provocation/titillation) but to elicit worship...  And they get more worship if they DON'T challenge the local mores too sharply...

    That's what i thought.

But on "Pavis : gateway to adventure" : "Uleria priestesses are easily recognized by their distinctive costume."

So, what is this costume? Do they have another one for anothers coutries?

And yes Dave, that's why i'm thinking costumes are not the same in all countries. But i still wondering what is the costume they use in pavis?

There's a full write-up of the cult of Uleria in Different Worlds #38.

Thank you. I checked but its not a write-up but a preview from "gods of glorantha".

i 've got another question : what is the official costume for an ulerian priestess?

does she wear a green dress like a esrolian priestesss? a white dress? a yellow one?

  9. Thank you :)

Plenty of room for baboons, and morokanth and newtlings etc to fill that space.

A trader may offer the elder boy a job as apprentice. The trader sells some meat to wealthy people on the Hill. What if the boy find the trader has a patron? What if the patron is a morrokanth? what if the meat is human meat? What if if the younger boy find that severals orphans disappear since the trader works there? :)

    ok its creepy :)

So Pavis is still in the temple and worshippers can go and talk to him yes? Can they see him? What help can he offer?

I can imagine that Lord Pavis may give informations about past, for example. After all, he was there when Pavis was founded : he did it.

This kind of informations may be precious if you want to explore the big rubble.

Restoring a hymen probably only takes 1 point of healing.  It is hardly a major wound requiring a "regrow limb" style of magical investment.  It sounds like the sort of ritual you can perform daily.  Do you ever get the feeling that unicorns and their whole virginity fetish are just a tad creepy?  Do they have a "sense virginity" skill, or is it more like "sense sexually active female", with virgins as the null set?  It is mentioned that unicorns mate with certain types of deer, but deer don't have hymens in our world.  Only mammals with an aquatic evolution in our world do, dolphins, whales, pigs, hippos, and we humans.  We are decidedly odd apes.

    i don't think so.

    1) "regrow limb" works only if the wound is NOT cicatrized.

    2) hymen is not a limb.

    3) all women don't have a hymen

    4) a woman can break without any sexual intercourse, riding for example can make it break

so : virginity is not a peace of flesh, its a spirit state. For me, the ritual virginity is about clear memory about all sexual acts.

  12. Hi

Me too, i m starting a new campaign in Pavis, but 1622. I m reading all scenarii i can find about this. If you want, i can share here. :)

I really like the way you introduice your campaign, its original and dramatic.

What kind of encounters are you looking for?

For example (based on the father)

    - what if the father was a corrupted guard? his former coleague can be worry about what his widow know about their affairs?

For example (based on the prostitution thing) :

    - a client, Lunar officer, who fall in love with the mother and want to save her, but in Lunar way, make all the family become Lunar.

    - a client, Lunar sorcerer, who searching for a virgin brithdate special for astrological and sorcery reasons, what if he learn his favorite prostitute have a daughter who fits?

    - a Yelmalion worshipper who want to bring the family in a strict way of Live, send by the relative. But he starts to blackmail the family about they way of live.

There is after all no reason why Uleria would be an exclusively female cult, or exclusively based around prostitution.

I agree, i can imagine a menestrel from Donandar cult also whorshipper of Uleria as Goddess of true Love. Or a worshipper of Issaries want to share Peace by trade and Communication. Or even a Healer from Chalana Arroy wants to be a better midwife.

  14. l had 3 players who want to play a Uleria whorshipper.

One was focused on the Reproduction thing, acting more like a modwife than a prostitute.

Another was inspired by Firefly (great TV show by the way). Her character was a courtesan, a companion.

The last one plays more like a hooker  and her character gonna worship Uleria at Pavis.

    Hello,

yep, this is the translation of the sun county sourcebook.

    thank you !

  16. Thank you very much, both of you !

One of my player come back at my table. She plays a worshipper of Uleria (as Esrola Subcult) and my new campaign is in Pavis. So i really need as much datas as i can find :)

I don't have "The Guide to Glorantha" but i have "pavis : gateway". Sun county is the original book translated into "Les Guerriers du Soleil" in french? I have got this one but i didn't remember this part about Uleria, thank you for your helpful quotes ! :)

  17. Hi

In Satar books, there is data about Uleria as Subcult for Esrola, involved in sacred Prostitution, with 3 Temples only : Apple Lane, Boldhome and Pavis. Her 2 others aspect : Communication and Reproduction seems to not been worshipped. Issaries takes her place as God of Communication, and Esrola, (her subcult like Uralda) is involved into Reproduction.

I m searching for datas about Uleria in Solar Cults, and Yelmite culture. Do you thing Yelmalions pay visit to Ulerian temple at pavis? Do they have another idea about Uleria? More romantic one? They do not worship Esrola, so perhaps they use Uleria as fertility goddess?

  18. In Anaxial's Roster : " Broo are humanoid, but have many animal features, especially those that derive from their mother. Ragnaglar, the broo ancestor, was goat-shaped
… Thed, goddess of rape, is their favorite, for she was the mother of the first broo, after her violation by Ragnaglar, the Mad God.
    "

In KoS : " Orlanth’s brother Ragnaglar was so overcome with sexuality that he had no limits to what he would take as a partner, and he was so fecund that everything he mated with bore children. "

So, i really can imagine than Satyrs came from Ragnaglar, (not Thed, i apologies for my error, i didn't see Ragnaglar was goat-shaped) when he mated with another Goddess, (May be Mallia? She was a fertility goddess before) and after, he had Broos with Thed.

Is it possible? Something official can tell if i'm wrong? or not?

I have trouble believing that wouldn't be mentioned in this writeup:  http://www.glorantha.com/docs/thed/.  To wit:

"By Ragnaglar, Thed had many children — the broos, scourges of the world."

No mention of any other fathers, nor of satyrs among her many children.  (And nothing else I can find on the net or in CC either.)

    But then, YGMV...

I guess Thed get her children before Ragnaglar raped her. So her first children are chaosless, goat-like because she was goddess of Goats. After, she became godess of Rape when Orlanth denies to her Justice for the crime Orlanth's brother did.

That's what i understand after reading "king of Satar" and "Cults of terror".

For Satyrs, they are descripted in RQ2 as goat-like people, upset when you call them "broo", that means they really are like Broos.
