Right now I am engaged in a bitter negotiation with my RQ3 old-group of players. Their last offer is 25D6, replace the two lower by 6s -destinated to SIZ & INT; and the remaining 23 allocated in groups of 3 (2 for SIZ & INT).

Should I accept or continue negotiating?

Rolling Ann allocating - with or without extra dice - is ok for D&D or RQ2 which had all stats being 3D6 but when you have two stats rolled differently, you have very limited flexibility on INT and SIZ.

What I used to do was roll 21 to 25 dice all at once and pick out dice in groups of 2 and 3 and allocate them to stats.

You make 5 4D6 rolls (dropping lowest) and allocate them to STR, CON, POW, DES and CHA; in the other hand, you roll two 3D6+6 roll and allocate in SIZ and INT.

  3. Any stats buying system should try to approximate the normal distribution, Pathfinder style, not linear where an 18 only costs only 2 point more than 16, when, if we do it using dice, an 18 is much more unlikely that a 16, for example.

    Table: Ability Score Costs
    Score    Points
    7    –4
    8    –2
    9    –1
    10    0
    11    1
    12    2
    13    3
    14    5
    15    7
    16    10
    17    13
    18    17

Anyone have used something like that?

IMO, an interesting and effective alternative is roll 4D6, drop the lowest and allocate (3D6+6 for SIZ/INT). Players are happy, because they have the (false) sense of control that allocating provides, scores are pretty good, but you keep an exciting dose of randomness. I've tried it several times and you avoid both clone characters and angry players...

  4. First of all, I apologize for my clumsy English: I write much worse than I read.

Although it is not exactly an errata (maybe it could be considered an errata by omission), I consider it's a surprising lack that has caused great discussions in my near 30 year group of RQ3 players, and that is a standard in modern games:

Why isn´t there an extensive example of a complete combat, with different situations, movements, SR calculations, results, etc?

Particularly, it could be confusing for new players the SR system when there are multiple actions in the same turn: move, attack, weapon change, missile weapons with s/SR fire rate, spells, etc.

Considering how numerous the examples are in other sections, it would be convinient to solve all the doubts derivated from the complex RQ combat system, a good, extensive, one-page ilustration.

Just downloaded a copy of the RQG core book. Yep this looks great. Very much an update to classic RQ.

Can't wait for the print copy release to really take a good look. I'll buy a print copy of this book, then wait and also get the three-book slipcase edition that includes the GM book and the Bestiary.

Going to look nice on the game store shelves (and in my bookcase!)

    Very good idea!

Do you know dates of print? I suppose the slipcase edition will be after the fisical basic book (GenCon)

Loving most of the things I'm seeing in the RQG previews. Character sheet looks good.

I think I may have preferred the Hit Location Figure to look similar to the RQ3 one, but that's about it. I would have preferred Skill Categories to be stat+stat, but that horse bolted a long time ago. As far as the character sheet goes, everything looks pretty good.

Except I still greatly prefer the cover of the RQG Quickstart to the RQG cover that we have been shown. The RQG Quickstart just feels right sitting alongside RQ Classic, and I think it resonates as being the same game line. The new cover is cool, but I would have preferred that picture early on in the book rather than on the cover, it just doesn't feel right to me.

Ok that was my lone voice in the wilderness that had to get that out.

Everything else looks really cool and I'm putting some gold coins aside to ensure I can get this pretty close to publication.

PS: A form-fillable version of the character sheet will be pretty desirable from the get-go. I think that should be a priority, as it really helps keep the sheet looking neat, and many gamers like things like that.

    I agree every single letter.

  7. From page 215:

    Quote

The innermost city (called the City of Brass) is an islet surrounded by a red-hot brass wall and connected to the rest of Sog City by a stone bridge.

So, another interpretation of the text you have posted is that the City of Brass, and only it, is the island surrounded by the Janube. It's logical, as the fire god is linked to the walls of the citadel. Also, it makes sense to the presence of a bridge. The rest of the city could have been built on that level, covering it and rising levels over the centuries, turning the river arm into underground, visible only from the cliff of the citadel.

    More from p. 215:

    Quote

The City of Brass: The Brithini reside in the oldest and innermost citadel of Sog City on the banks of the Janube River, surrounded by a red-hot brass wall (...); molten streams of metal surrounded by clouds of steam and fire are constantly discharged into the nearby river.

    ¿What do you think?

    Excuse my pathetic english.

  8. Hm, interesting. So, the first map is 2nd age Sog map... but the Docks are already in ruins, and I cannot perceive significant differences between both maps. Could be the first map used in 3th age campaing?

  9. Thanks for the reply! In fact, i'm most interested in find in a LARGER version of the first map (I mean, the one in black and white). I found it in pinterest, but it could be part of a publication, or whatever...

  10. Hello everybody. I have only found two maps of Sog city, one of them very confusing and the other good, but small. I atach both of them. Anybody have better or/and GREATER maps?

Preparing a long-term campaing for the next edition...

Sorry for my poor english (very much better understanding than writing)
