Change to can't do? I've seen it, but I'm not 100% sure what was intended. I mean, she is the Lady of the Lake, but they are multiple heavily-armed warriors... so how does that turn out? It's reads ambiguously, but from the context of the rest of the paragraph, does a typo makes more sense than the clumsiness of the writing as is? Also, if they do stop her, it's going to make for some interesting re-writing of around future events! Maybe Balin gets annoyed because his mother was left to die a long, slow, painful, death rather than the assisted death as written...
