Live on Kickstarter! — Graveyards of Arkham is our blockbuster sequel to the 2023 ENNIES-nominated Bookshops of Arkham Call of Cthulhu actual play series.

Graveyards of Arkham is going to continue to break new ground in actual play, with amazing set designs, stellar performances, walk-on NPCs, and of course horror storytelling that only the Call of Cthulhu tabletop roleplaying game can produce.

As an anthology, viewers won't have to have watched Bookshops (though if you haven't you should - many, many viewers have told us it's the best actual play series they've ever seen!) But we're returning with several of the main cast including Mark Meer as Keeper, along with the same incredibly talented writing team.

And, for supporting us in this Kickstarter campaign, we've put together a whole lot of eldritch surprises as backer rewards!

This highly detailed, lovingly authentic 1922 Town of Arkham Street Plan map is a massive 7000 x 5400 pixels, so backers will easily be able to explore in and around the legend-haunted town on the dark and muttering banks of the Miskatonic River. Higher backer levels also offer a physical copy of the map, with free worldwide postage.

Many, many more eldritch delights for backers

There are many, many more eldritch delights for backers, including a Graveyards of Arkham movie poster by renowned Finnish artist Ossi Hiekkala, Old Arkham Graveyard grave plots and certificates by the H.P. A few rare Call of Cthulhu Keepers possess a unique quality: flawless off-the-cuff descriptions of otherworldly beings, a way to read the table and understand what makes the players tick and the type of game they enjoy the most, or the ability to take on the role of an NPC and truly become someone else before your eyes, in just a few words. They fill your imagination with such wonders that the table and chairs and dice all fade away, if only for a few hours.

Mark Meer is one of those Keepers.

Anyone who has watched just five minutes of Bookshops of Arkham can attest to his immersive skills.

We are so excited that we have reached our stretch goal of $30,000 and the wondrous Becca Scott will be joining the Graveyards of Arkham cast as a guest NPC!

Additionally, we've heard everyone’s feedback, and we’re happy to announce that the Old Arkham Cemetery Map—currently being exhumed by our friends at the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society—is now available as an add-on.

Details About Your Mythos-Writing Masterclass

DarrenOandBelindaC.png.e5f3e98aada6dd68605acb7b1e6e2570.png

For those three lucky backers who generously select the $850 pledge level, you’ll each receive your own exclusive one-hour Q&A with Belinda Cornish and Darren Ormandy—the creative minds behind both Bookshops of Arkham and Graveyards of Arkham.

While the undeniable talent of our cast and Keeper is always on display, we wanted to take a moment to tell you a little bit more about the writers without whom neither Bookshops nor Graveyards would exist!

Meet your Teachers!

Darren is the Creative Writer at Weta Workshop, the studio that designed and created the buildings, props and costumes for The Lord of the Rings movies. He also makes indie horror films, and won the Best Short Film Award at the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival in 2014, and to ring the changes he spends the summers at Oxford University teaching literature. Darren has also worked as a prop maker, and made The Book of the Dead which featured The Mummy (1999) starring Brendan Fraser.

Belinda is an award-winning actor, director, and playwright, with 25 years of professional experience in theater, film and television. She is also known for voicing a variety of characters in Bioware’s video game series Mass Effect and Dragon Age. Belinda is a passionate storyteller, with a yen for weaving deep lore and myth into everything she creates—she's a nice person who likes to make nasty things.

  • Campaign concepts: Belinda and Darren can offer guidance on how to develop the spark of an idea into a detailed scenario.
  • Folklore, myth, and history: Why to weave these elements into your scenarios, and how.
  • Making sense of cosmic horror: The weird and baffling is always more terrifying when underpinned by twisted reason.
  • The details make all the difference: Creating rich, memorable non-player characters.
  • Writing collaboration: how to make it work!
  • True (and safe!) torture: Personalizing games to your players.

Belinda and Darren are also happy to talk you through how they developed Bookshops of Arkham and their other campaigns. Or perhaps you have an idea for a game or script and want to work with Darren and Belinda to develop it? Or maybe you want to create a great concept from scratch, working with the writers of Bookshops and Graveyards of Arkham!

To take part in one of these strictly-limited sessions with Belinda and Darren, back Graveyards of Arkham at the $850 tier!

Graveyards of Arkham Cast Introductions

As with anthology series like American Horror Story, Graveyards of Arkham will feature both new cast, new characters, and returning cast taking on brand new roles for this story.

LuciaGraveyards.png.88dee07acdbc620afd523c4d9ac0b0c1.png

The talent behind Judith Van Horne—the occultist who’d never been in a bathroom with other people before—returns for Graveyards of Arkham. Lucia Versprille is the creator of The Islands of Sina Una: a Campaign setting for Dungeons & Dragons that pulls from the pre-colonial mythology and culture of the Philippines. Lucia is also a freelance Art Director, working on projects for RuneQuest and Call of Cthulhu at Chaosium.

PatrickGraveyards.png.fd10a2db4e0fde493d3ba45d88d748e9.png

The soulful bruiser Mickey Sykes was brought to life in Bookshops of Arkham by actor Patrick Logan, and we are very excited to announce Patrick's return. An actor, writer, and director, Patrick released Gordon: A Batman Fan Film on YouTube in February 2023.

NouraGraveyards.png.5accf30cc929cd4fd94269ac96a94a05.png

A familiar face to tabletop enthusiasts, Noura Ibrahim is known for a number of TTRPG Actual Play series including Black Dice Society, Chaosium’s Stream of Chaos, various shows on the Glass Cannon Network, and of course Vampire: The Masquerade’s LA By Night as the Lasombra Ib.

JosephineGraveyards.png.c64c207dfd5ac5ae52d81309a0fb06e7.png

A frequent face on Chaosium’s Stream of Chaos, fans of TTRPGs will know Josephine McAdam from The Dungeon Run, Glass Cannon’s Haunted City, as the blood-witch Eva in LA By Night, and many more. Fans of horror may have seen Josephine over on Shudder in the films The Mortuary Collection, and Scare Package.

Five days to go and we haven't lost the plot... did you know the Sears catalog once offered tombstones by mail order? We're currently looking at those for inspiration for our Old Arkham Cemetery backer levels in the Graveyards of Arkham Kickstarter.

6af3b09db18d155d1a90c8f5fd646367_origina

Our fiendishly inventive friends at the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society are creating a circa 1922 map of the Old Arkham Cemetery for us, detailing every individual plot and family crypt. You know this graveyard map is going to be amazing, as they have already won the ENNIES Product of the Year twice for their stunningly authentic  props. You'll even be able to order a physical copy.

3e2f5bd43915656251d2c2507f01e4ff_origina

And back at $99 and above, and you'll be able to reserve one of those plots, pick out a headstone, and write your own epitaph!

You'll even get an officially notarised plot certifcate, signed by Klaus Mehler, the current custodian of the Old Arkham Cemetery.

What would your epitaph be? You can literally say (almost) anything here.*

* if deemed inappropriate, or copyright infringing, you will be asked to update your epitaph.

We're pleased to announce a new stretch goal: at $40,000 Andrew Leman, one of the principals of the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society, will join the cast as a guest NPC!

stretch-goal-andrew-leman-1200x1200.thumb.png.866473617ecc6235c5b5b27a85729122.png

One of the founding members of the HPLHS, Andrew co-writes, produces, and performs in their Dark Adventure Radio Theatre series, and uses his prodigious skills as a graphic and type designer to help create their amazing prop sets that have won critical acclaim and numerous awards. Do check out the HPLHS's latest incredible prop set: the Arkham Investigator's Wallet!

Andrew has been a Call of Cthulhu player since his college days. He earned his MFA in acting from the University of Illinois, and has been seen on professional stages in Chicago and Los Angeles.

In addition to Andrew's appearance as a guest NPC, the HPLHS are supporting the Graveyards of Arkham project in several important (and fun) ways:

  • You'll see the HPLHS's wryly authentic advertisements on the Arkham Map. Explore the legend-haunted city with the massive 7000 x 5400 pixel download for all backers $19 up, and as a physical map in a rolled tube at certain higher levels. The printed map also available as an add-on at any level.
  • The HPLHS are also creating a circa 1922 map of the Old Arkham Graveyard for us, detailing every individual plot and family crypt! Specific backer levels allow you to reserve a graveyard plot of your own, pick out a headstone from our selection of master masonry, and write your epitaph. There's even your own notarised Plot Certificate, created by the HPLHS to look like an authentic document from the period!

Thank you everyone for your support! If, like us, you’d like to see Andrew join the Graveyards team, be sure to update your pledge with some of our new add-ons, or back the project today to help us reach this goal!

Just Over Two Days to Go!

With a little more than two days to go, our Graveyards of Arkham Kickstarter campaign is closing on $40,000 and 600 backers. It would be great to achieve both goals, and we have the time to do it!

ENNIE Awards

Bookshops of Arkham, the predecessor to Graveyards of Arkham, was nominated for Best Podcast in this year's ENNIE Awards.  The awards were last night and while Bookshops didn't win it's a great honour that out of the thousands of entries, the judging panel signalled out Bookshops for consideration*.

Congratulations to Seth Skorkowsky (gold) and the How we Roll Podcast (silver), two worthy winners, and both shows that prominently feature Call of Cthulhu.

We were also delighted that the Miskatonic Repository creation Host and Hostility: Three Regency Cthulhu Scenarios won the silver ENNIE for Best Electronic Book and Rivers of London: The Roleplaying Game won the silver ENNIE for Best Rules.

Congratulations to all the other ENNIES winners and nominees! Many thanks to the ENNIES judges for shortlisting our products, and the members of the Chaosium tribe, fans, and supporters for your support.

*Many ENNIES voters were perplexed that Bookshops was in the Best Podcast category when it is not really a podcast, but we have no control over which ENNIES category things get nominated for.

And we hit $40,000 - which means the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society's Andrew Leman will now be joining Graveyards of Arkham as a guest NPC!

Gen Con in Indianapolis has just wrapped up and we were excited to have the opportunity to meet up with many of the Graveyards of Arkham cast members:

Graveyards Keeper Mark Meer, and main cast members Noura Ibrahim and Josephine McAdam appeared in our sold-out Call of Cthulhu All-Star game on Thursday night. (And guest NPC Paula Deeming joined us at our pre-show dinner!)

With the back of his shovel, Old Klaus Mehler is now patting down the soil on the grave plot after we got notification from Kickstarter that 713 souls pledged $41,611 to help send the Graveyards of Arkham project into eternity.

The Chaosium team thanks the backers for their support over the past 21 days. The campaign succeeded our expectations (we hoped to get to 666 backers). Now we must put our efforts into the next phase of this Kickstarter - production planning for the Graveyards of Arkham shoot in Los Angeles in late September, and delivering the backer rewards as quickly and efficiently as we can.

364131051-727723019365287-6440183334449529283-n.jpeg

To that end, with the crowdfunding campaign barely fresh in the grave, Chaosium's Michael O'Brien (MOB) and Brian Holland, executive producers of Graveyards of Arkham, lost no time to go visit the Good Time Society studio in Los Angeles literally the same day the Kickdstarter ended, to plot and plan.

Good Time Society are our official production partners. Founded by Becca Scott and Jake Michels, shown here with MOB and Brian, Good Time Society is a production company that creates community driven gaming content focused on inclusivity, comedy, and creativity.

Chaosium has worked with Good Time Society many times since their debut, including the popular Call of Cthulhu series The Calyx, and the blockbuster one-shot The Auction in 2021.

You can see next steps at Update #15 on the Kickstarter page.
