Vol. 05 is well advanced and will be: Prax & the Zola Fel Valley: The Land of the Giants

We have some other titles and contents, including the Rough Guide to Pavis City, which is also well-advanced

But the exact number is unknown yet

That's OK, I was mostly asking about the ones already published.

    Thanks though.

    not for me

the main rule I follow is p314

That doesn't mean p275 contradicts anything : I consider that p275 explains when you are allowed to learn magic.

P275 is, for me, the background perspective (aka explanation for the GM to say when a priest will use the temple's resources to teach a spell, that's not just "hey I'm initiate, I want to learn a spell right now !")

when p314 define the design perspective (POW sacrifice = a better magical link between cultist and deity)

Yeah, you butter up the head priest, and you  are *allowed* to learn spells. You don't *actually* learn them until you sacrifice the POW.

  3. Oh, good one. Barnes & Noble has 2 5-book omnibus ebooks of the Thieves' World series for a pretty good price, if you have a Nook, or the Nook reader app.

As I recall, it started out pretty good and focused, but the later books veered off into the usual each author wants to do their own thing of many shared world series. Multiverse shenanigans were a part of it very early though so Sanctuary persons showing up in Dragon Pass wouldn't be out of line.

  4. Not a typo, but meta-data errors. The title field in the PDF for both of them has "Cults of Glorantha [2 or 3]", and has "The Lightbringers" or "The Earth Goddesses" in the author field.

It would be nice to have the ISBN, and publisher info too, but I don't know if those are standard fields or something that Calibre adds in.

The Prosopaedia has sort of the same error. The title is correct, but it says "The Prosopaedia" in the author field.

Also, The Prosopaedia isn't listed in the RuneQuest:RPiG sub-section on the DriveThruRPG website. But that's probably a site configuration problem, not a problem with the actual file.

Yep.  I was spamming refresh on my browser in a couple of meetings today...  got off a plane from Melbourne this evening and they were available.  It's a pretty special day when this much RQG content lands. Like finding a blank piece of Truestone.

Geeze, I hope it's not blank.

    😉

  6. So, I just watched the Barbie Movie and had this crazy idea.

The plot is basically a Heroquest shown from the POV of the inhabitants of the God Plane. All these platonic (barbonic?) ideal Barbies are having the best day ever, living their best life, every single day. Then all of a sudden stuff from the real world starts intruding and things change, and they don't know what to do. Barbie has to go find a Hero to fix things, and things get worse, and things get maybe better, there's a new Barbie (anxiety ridden depression Barbie, with sweat pants), everybody is happy!

    Until the next time anyway.

Incorrect David. Doburdan is simply a local name for Orlanth Thunderous, associated with the Entekos cult. Derdromus is an old Darsenite name for Deshkorgos, who shows up on page 29.

And for sanity sake I did not include the name of every river god, or every alternate name of a god known in one language or another.

For some reason I read that as "Orlanth Thundercats".

    Now I want that cult.

And good suggestion to look at the rule book and Apple Lane. I'd also add Cults of Prax which mechanizes more of the Gloranthan culture in the form of a good set of cults. And Cults of Terror if you want to make some of the nastier foes more than just a set of combat stats...

If you're doing that, you might as well just buy the RQ Classics Cult Compendium. It has both of those, plus some misc stuff from other sources.

The RQ Classics compilations are all pretty good values, IMO.

  9. If you are buying them from DriveThru RPG, they're on sale until Mar 13.

Instead of just buying the whole bunch of them, you might want to just start with the RQ Second Edition book, and the Apple Lane adventure. That's the classic starter adventure. The 2ed had a quite a few improvements over the 1ed (In My Opinion, anyway).

Or if you do buy a lot, just read those two first. 🙂

    Well, 'tolerance' isn't 'acceptance'.

Tolerance is the absence of overt persecution. Tolerance is equal protection before the law. Tolerance is society being flexible enough to find a use for someone with your, um, 'talents'.

But outside of organizational acceptance, I really do think a free-agent Chaos Feature recipient is going to have a hard time. Remember folks, in a mechanical sense, if you're being honest in your rolls, you have a 50-50 chance of having a NEGATIVE outcome on a Chaos Feature roll. And there is absolutely nothing that guarantees that even a beneficial Feature will present itself in a socially acceptable way. Your 'add 'x' AP to 'y' location' could manifest as a layer pustulent flesh, for example. As far as I know, we don't have an RQG Chaos Feature table yet, but the ones from RQ3 were NASTY. Take a look at some of the critters in the Dorestor: Land of Terror book.

And I submit to you that Lunar citizen or no, NOBODY wants to share a table with somebody who's 'Shimmer' effect is being surrounded by a thick cloud of flies.

There is a Chaotic Features/Curse of Thed table in both the Red Book of Magic and the Bestiary.

  11. So the answer is a definitive "Maybe". 🙂

Now I don't feel as bad about not finding the answer in the Q&A, because it wasn't there before.

Anyway, has anybody been crazy enough to use rune metal javelins or arrows?
