    Aye, the star one is very common. I like both and think that if used together (ie. both drawn in the same location), you're pretty much going to be safe from a lot of things. Except outer gods. And **** that!
  5. Not really game-related, but a big part of the source material, so it's still valid. I've seen two different versions of the elder sign and I know there is/was a debate about it amid fans. So where do you stand, personally? What do you believe it to be and which do you prefer? Both answers may be different after all. I can see the one reminscent of a twig being the official or "proper" one, but design-wise, I like the star/eye combo better. They both have good points, but the star is my preference.

  8. Hey guys, got another question for you. The group are currently fighting two guards. The guards are wearing chain mail with an AR of 4, meaning not many points of damage go through when shot with a medium pistol (D8 DAM). I think the armour should be less resistant to bullets since they weren't a concern when that armour was made in real life. How should I go about it? A separate rating?

  10. That is nuts. Another bout of insanity at the table for us tonight. The group continues from saving one scout last time and tonight, they got into a town, where they are stared at as everyone (except the party) has grey skin. They managed to befriend a stall vendor and god chatting, telling of what they had encountered; the large, hawk-like creatures that wouldn't die (They were essentially KO'd). The NPC looks impressed that they "killed" these things, having been told they know nothing of this realm. NPC: How did you know to crush the beak? M: What now? M gets very drunk one one beer (as theirs is a lot stronger) and ends up getting arrested. He then escapes from the guard post and makes his way towards a city before ducking into the woods (with two crossbow wounds). The others, meanwhile, en route to the city have a run-in with a few zombies, but manage to take them all down. As they head north, they meet two guards who grill them about why they're here (this domain doesn't like foreigners much). After fumbling a persuade skill, S decides they should leave. However, A, not taking too kindly on being told "bugger off to where you came from) decides to whip out her gun and shoot them. Cue a big fight (guards' armour value helped) in which my fiancee's character is badly hurt as a result of this and one of the guards is dying. Right outside the city gates. This will not go well Especially as M is trying to lose two more guards in the woods. And he doesn't know what's there
  11. Poor Bob. Even the players are fed up, hmm? Personally, I'd have stopped at attempt 5. By the way, my new game works well. It's fun, the players are utterly insane and I can stay on them. Though if I can stay on pacewith insane players, does that say more of their madness or mine? I'm scared

  13. This one is just silly. My first game with the group I'm heading. We play my home made game using BRP. They cross over into the other world and rescue one of the scouts they are meant to find. The army dr patches him up. The hitman decides to help get him to his feet, for the purposes of pickpocketing- and gets caught. I got to the toilet and when I get back, everyone is laughing hysterically and I hear mention of chloroform! It turns out that to help the P.I and the hitman search thispoor bastard, the chemist (played by my fiancee) wanted to chloroform him! I give her a luck roll and she fails- she has none with her. FINALLY, the doc helps send the guy back to his own world, safe from further molestation. They pretty much tried to abuse the guy they just rescued. And this is out FIRST session! They're insane! In that same campaign, they brought down these birds. Pretty vicious things, or would be if not for the negative Db. They get shot down, but aren't dead (party hasn't discovered how to kill them yet). Doc uses bandage to bind the (sharp-edged) wings of one such bird and sends it back to her world for their employer to study. Suffice to say things will not end well

  16. Getting a bit confusing now Remember that if Or has you a bit stumped, there is an entry on spot rules. Don't be afraid to find a way to deal with opposed rolls if you're unsure of the outcome, just make sure it's consistent.

  18. Hey people, let's play a game! The name is also the title of this thread. My group gets together for the first time tomorrow! YAY! One of them sent me a message with this question. "Homeless children recruitable for cannon fodder?" So, there you have it. Name that player type! I'm going with insanely chaotic. Good thing is, I've known this guy a long time, so I can do things to keep him in check, i.e. to prevent game breaking. Player has to have fun after all. Also, the answer to his question is no.   19. ATG, seriously? He charged into a fight without drawing his sword? I can only imagine just how badly that went. You don't bring a fist to a sword fight. Unless you're a monk. Some good ideas, I think I got a handle on this now, thanks people. Also, ATG, you mentiioned anthropomorphised animals? Like the kitsune, etc?
  20. Not free travel, no. I get needing a good reason for both worlds, so are you thinking maybe just on the one? Because I have thought that, maybe it would provide even more of a different feel? Keeping them off 'our' world could help make it more diverse, more unusual? They don't look like other races in the second world, but are still bound by allegiance, maybe that would help keep things workable.
  21. One other thing. I'm thinking of adding in some fantasy races to give players some versatility, but here's the thing; it's modern day, so do I make them available to both worlds or just the one they will be visiting?
  22. Seems I benefit from this too. I'd have gone with the better success, but it wouldn't have occurred to me to subtract one level of success. Either way, I'd have gone with the spotter. If two people succees, the better score wins.
