  1. Here's my treasure generator for creatures based on treasure types from 1st edition Manual of Monsters!

Hope this is useful to some of you. [

Maybe I'll work on a free Manual of Monsters next...

  2. I could build a random chart program but since the critters don't have treasure types... I guess I could base it loosely on dnd but changes to items to reflect brp.... thoughts?

    That's all good news!

I have been busy, however, on a treasure generator using the NBOS chart randomizer. I've done extensive charts for mundane items, magic weapons, and Miscellaneous Magic Items. The randomizer decides if it had bonuses and to what (skills, stats,ect..) and then if it has one of the spells from Magic World as well for rare items.

Next is armor, rings, and wands.

  3. Apologies if this has been previously addressed but....what IS that dragon guarding?

Such creatures are notoriously greedy hoarders of treasure yet I see no such listing of possible loot on any of the creatures description. Is this just up to the Chronicler or am I missing something? Thanks!

(anyone have a treasure generator? )

  4. Eh, that seems to do mostly with how well the characters deeds (or misdeeds) are known by the population of a kingdom. It doesnt relate directly to gaining henchmen or followers...

I think what would attract followes is a bit of each of those. A characters name becomes well known and others, with the same ideals, flock to his or her banner, hoping to ride the coat tails to greatness.

  5. Okay. Yep. Antonéus did a pretty thorough job incorporating A LOT of the more common dungeon denizens. Kudos!

Someone should Definitely make a web-book for others to add to. Nothing like growing the list of possible ways to kill players!

Thanks again for the info guys.

And thanks to Evilschemer for reminding me how forgetful I truly am!

  6. Heya folks!

I'm relatively new to the BRP scene and am working on a fantasy campaign for my PnP group. But I have noticed either a lack of BRP monster books or a terrible lack in my searching abilities. Most of what I have seen is:

    1. I've been converting a few over here....*link*

    2. Other similar systems creature stats are pretty close but....

(HOPEFULLY I'm missing something which you good people will happily point out :) )

Anyway I have some artistic ability, some spare time, and my wife would LOVE for me to make money on this hobby, so my question is:

Is there a market for a BRP compatible Critter Catalog?

Is Chaosium Mono the way to go? (I've heard mixed reviews, especially on payment...) or would I be better off making it compatible but NOT have the BRP/Chaos support.

It's my understanding that numbers/rules do not fall under copy write as long as you make no reference to the original material and use your own artwork/wording. ala AD&Ds OSRIC system.

I'm no lawyer so I wont pretend to know all the details and honestly haven't bothered to look it up YET.

This is just a :b1:bug:b1: that flew in my ear and won't stop buzzing.

Thanks in advance for your input!

  7. One guy Specials Hide and says "I've hidden really well". T'other guy ordinary-succeeds Spot - so he didn't quite look hard enough to see someone hidden really well. That's fine.

But under O.R. it means the first guy *didn't* hide 'really well' - because the other's roll would downgrade the Special to a mere Success. To me, that feels wrong (and incidentally violates causality). And the feeling is important.

Also - Draws Happen. Opposed Rolling seems driven by an unnecessary urge to find an outright "Winner" - more often than is desirable or realistic.

But in a game of hide and seek, there is always a winner...

  8. This tends to penalize characters with high skill levels. When Character A has a skill level

of 20 % and Character B has a skill level of 80 %, Character B's effort to build up a high

skill level is wasted if the lowest roll wins.

Well looks like I didn't think that through very well. Quite right.

Just hate to confuse my players(more than me)

But That's why I asked here. Thanks! ;t)

  9. Opposed rolls: whoever rolls highest, but under his skill wins. Barring any trumping by critical and special results.

    Yeah, just Googled it.

I think I might use the UNO method instead. Whoever rolls LOWEST and under their skill wins, barring specials or crits.

Suppose this method has a different name.

  10. Blackjack?

I guess what my problem is is this:

Why is the sneak gaining a benefit from failing to beat the spotters superior roll?

If the spotter rolled a regular success and the sneaker rolled special, would the sneaker be penalized as well?

What if they both roll vanilla success?

I've been trying to wrap my head around this or come up with a house rules version, like maybe both roll d100+ their skill score, whoever wins, well, wins. Suggestions?

Was mentioned that this was a favorite topic, could someone link me to a thread?

How do other GMs handle this? Does this single post give me a bonus to my ForumTroll score?

Yes, I will surely have many more questions for you good patient folks.

  11. Hey, I'm a noob to BRP but already a big fan of the system.

I haven't played it yet but am planning on GMing soon as the others in my group are just players...

Anyway I have a question about opposing skill rolls.

In the golden book there is an example of a character using hide verses another using spot. It reads that the hiding character rolls a success and the spotter rolls a special success. That the hiders success reduces the spotters special success to a normal success even though the spotter rolled a better success rate.

Is this an error? Seems to me the special success should reduce the hiders success to a fail...

I would love some examples of why this is the case, if you please?

I'm pulling my hair trying to figure it all out.

    Thanks in advance!

  12. Hi all!

I was cruising the Metacreator site asking peeps if it was compatible with a game system I was desiging.

Several peoples sent me messages saying my system was pretty identical to CoC and BRP.

I've played /DMd dang near everything from blue book DnD back in '78 to 4.0 .

Top Secret, traveller, Gamma World, Rolemaster, Star Frontiers, Star Wars (d6 and d20), Star Trek(old school).

Anyway I decided to make my own system that took the best of these ideas and put them together.

Little did I know Chaos did the work for me. I dowloaded the quick start and freaked out. Some of the system was almost word for word identical to what I was attempting. I found a BRP gold book at the RPG store in town(25% off) and tore into it.

    I laughed. I cried. I cursed aloud...

It is almost identical to my system. So here I am. A new fan of what a friend of mine calls "The greatest game no one knows about."

A few house rule tweaks and it will shine.

Glad to be a part of this community and would like to thank Chaosium for doing so much of my design work for me.
