  1. Never thought about just using bow range as a starting point. Cheers. Well done that man. Rust with you on that. I do that already with guys using scoped weapons in fluid closer range combats ie make them do a spot before they can acquire the target. Seems to work. Thanks all, now back to coming up with an airship design system, joy.
  2. I am not really with you. My thoughts were that if you can say spot a person lying in ambush at 40 yds does searching using a pair of binoculars make it easier and conversely would spotting a person at 200 yds be impossible without optics of some sort. I know there are more variables such as conceal skill and object siz. I was just looking for a rough reference to start from.
  3. I am trying to tie down a house rule for using optics, such as telescopes and binoculars, in the game to aid with spot actions. I may have missed it but is there a guideline for a rough range for making spot rolls with the naked eye hence then maybe altering the range for optics by the magnification of the equipment?
  4. Thanks Galahad, good points. The era I am GM,ing is Steampunk to WW1. I have used modern weapons myself so it was the advantage of using pistols over a full length Lee Enfield or Martini type rifle i was trying to model. I think I will go with your Dex/ SR penalty. Had't considered the grapple to weapon issue. Mightvtrybit next session.
  5. Good thoughts. Happy with the inaccuracies of a pistol. I was also thinking of applying a dex rank penalty to allow for the bringing the rifle etc back up to the aim indoors and or only allow unarmed shots as if firing from the hip etc.
  6. I have a small issue/question with the rules regarding firearm ranges. I am happy with the basic ranges and the difficulty mods applied as the ranges are doubled etc. It is also fine that a rifle will have a better basic range than a pistol therefore allowing tgts to be hit at greater ranges. However when using weapons in shorter ranges, such as within buildings, close country etc, my PCs often still choose the rifle over the pistol as they will remain within the basic ranges and roll to hit on their skill levels. In reality I would think that smaller weapons such as pistols and SMGs will have a greater utility within close in fighting being easier to aim quickly and manoeuvre the weapon around obstacles etc. This seems difficult to model with RAW but has anyone come up with some home brewed rules to model this?
  7. I read it that missile weapons that are readied go first in dex order then everyone acts in dex order and if the rof allowed you would fire again on your dex rank. Auto fire and burst wins go in dex order and not at the start of the round even if they were readied.
  8. I remember having that issue. The DM at the time used it for a city thieving campaign. My character got extremely drunk at the annual winding ceremony for the clockwork barges and had most of his kit pinched. Happy days.
