  1. Mythras Character Skill Designer supports now Roll20 and helps select Combat Styles

<a href="http://notesfrompavis.blog/2020/09/17/mythras-character-skill-designer-makes-exploring-character-options-and-creating-characters-easier/">The Mythras Character Skill Designer</a> (CSD) (<a href="http://tools.notesfrompavis.com">Tools.notesfrompavis.com</a> now makes it easy to create Mythras characters skills and export them to Roll20 and Excel.

Mark your character stats on the screen and start selecting the options.

Currently CSD supports the Mythras Core in creating the skills. Select your culture and career from the choices. After that you can select professional skills (3 for culture and 3 for career and 1 hobby skill). This can now be exported to excel or json for further work. From the excel you can copy by hand the skills and values to your normal character sheet wherever that is.

You can select the json export file contents and open roll20 and add a new character with Mythras character sheet and copy paste (=import) the json content there. This will create a character sheet with these skills and with some tweaking you are ready to play.
    <a href="https://notesfrompavis.files.wordpress.com/2020/09/2020-09-27_14-53-53.png"><img src="https://notesfrompavis.files.wordpress.com/2020/09/2020-09-27_14-53-53.png?w=300" alt="" width="300" height="220" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-3490" /></a>

You can now also check what weapons and combat traits you would like to have from a set of combat styles from various sources. After selecting the primary source - select the area and then select the combat style from available

For example you could select as primary sources Shores of Korantia, Campaigns and Mythras, then select area Campaigns - From there you can select Hammer of the Beast. Which shows as weapons Ball &amp; Chain, Great Hammer and Barbed Javelin with trait Batter Down. Currently only a list of combat style contents is shown, no skill or weapon stats are shown. The names and categorisations might be enhanced in the future and there might be additional combat styles. These combat styles might be used as is or used as inspiration for creating your own.

The combat styles will currently be copied also to Excel.

  2. Mythras Character Skill Designer Makes Exploring Character Options and Creating Characters Easier

There is a new tool in early beta at http://tools.notesfrompavis.com/

If you want to design characters relatively quickly Character Skill Designer is there for you to help with the skills part. It (currently) helps to create cultures and careers from the Mythras Core.
It gives the player quick way to design the skill set. In Mythras RAW there is a set of standard and professional skills available per culture and career. Each culture also has different careers available.

So enter the characteristics (Str, Siz, Con etc…) in the tool

So for example if your player has dreamed of being a Nomad Diabolist from Northern Wastes CSD lets him pick Nomad as the culture, Diabolist as a profession. After this tool let’s you select the right amount of professional cultural and career skills (which is max 3).

Next it let’s you see all the skills (including the standard skills that were not available with the culture/profession). The CSD calculates the base percentages for the skills and let’s you sort them by skill% to see how the skills fit players view and where to add cultural or career points.

The skill template has a note for each skill about whether you can use cultural or career points or whether it is just standard. When you are satisfied with the skill combination you can download that as a CSV file.

This will be developed further. There might be some bugs in the combinations, feedback welcome

  3. New tool - Mythras Encounter Generator JSON UI for Roll20 and Campaign Logger Generator update

Mythras Encounter Generator is a tool for generating countless number of NPCs and Enemies to help out the GM and usually oppose the players. It is easy to use and generates either on screen, PDF or PNG format encounters.

But there are other format needs and so far they have been served by building perhaps a bit cryptic URL to generate the JSON. The spell has been cast. By popular request (thanks Bilharzia and others at Discord) there is now a user interface for those who need the JSON format from Mythras Encounter Generator.

    Mythras Encounter Generator JSON

This can be useful for those who want to copy the generated enemy to other places for example Roll20.
Select from the left Mythras Encounter Generator JSON and you will after a short while see the below screen.
    • Select the tag you want
    • Within the tag you can search for the name of the enemy if you want.
    • Select the number of enemies (remember Roll20 wants to have only 1 at the time)
    • Select the enemy.
    • Select from the automatically generated list the small blue icon to copy the JSON to clipboard.
Paste the content to program you want for example Roll20.

Tool is available here at tools.notesfrompavis.com

2020-09-06_22-07-45.png?w=500Previously this was only available for those who figured out how to use this with URL format

    Gloranthan and Mythras Color

At the same time the tools.notesfrompavis.com generators got a new interface.
2020-09-06_22-08-06.png?w=500It still contains all the generators
    • City Bad Night Encounter Seed Generator
    • Coin Stash Glorantha

  5. Tactics of selecting combat special effects in Mythras  - a result based visualisation

Special effects are one of the best features in Mythras. They can make the fights cinematic and their right use tactically can make you win.

Ulgar the Quick (PC character): I hit the thug and he did not parry - I want to get rid of the opponent's weapon - what options do I have.

GM: Ushgar the Rabid (PC character) failed to hit and the Ilyan the Constable parried. I want to force Ushgar to do something - what options do I have.

Mongo the Mighty (PC character) : Mongo smashed and the puny opponent failed to parry. I want to hurt the opponent - what options do I have.

Here is a result based approach in mind map form for both defensive and offensive special effects. This should help in getting players (and the GM) to find quickly what special effects to use based on what the winner wants to achieve on his special effect.

In game, the Book of Sires is probably your best source, although it doesn't ge into year by year detail until 439, it does note major events prior to that. Wikipedia isn't all that bad for a year by year synopsis either.

If it helps I did up a set family history tables that cover 410-439, based upon something Khanwulf sent me sometime back. There are a few errors on the table, it's customized for my campaign,  and it's not in Book of Sires format, but it's something.

Will get the book of Sires. Would be interested in the family tables you mentioned

Very nice!  Very nice indeed.  TYVM!

One request -- could you add a bit more description to the various "Cult One-Pager" items?  There's a LOT of them...

Let’s see what I can do. I created this with Python’s Wordpress API with some grouping. i may need to add some more grouping categories to WP side or create external datastore to have short desceiptions, may need to go for latter. no promišes on timelines

  8. I made a small interactive quick reference for combat flow in Mythras.  It contains brief descriptions of actions in combat and points to more detailed description page in the rules.  Not all the document links (that refer to the charts in the Mythras Charts page are working yet but they will eventually. It could be useful already. How I use it myself: mark the page as a favourite in iPad browser and during combat if I do not recall the rule option, click the link.

Below is an example from mid page - what attacker can do.

..and here is the content of the Falling link

  9. A new player aid now exists

    Combat Style Cards for Mythras

Combat styles, combat style traits, weapon traits and special effects are key parts of what makes Mythras so interesting in combat. I decided to make a player aid for my campaign that contains the key information for players about combat style they have chosen.

Combat style card contains the name and combat style traits of the style with an explanation what the trait provides.
Each of the combat styles contains usually several weapons. Most of the special effects that player can choose are the same for each of the weapons. So I gathered the common special effects within the combat style's weapons to the top of the page.
For each of the weapons the key details of the weapon are shown plus the possible weapon traits.
Underneath the basic information there are only those special effects specific to that weapon.
So how would player use this:
Let's say she knows the combat style Gladiator.
    gladiator.png?w=300
She has succeeded in the attack so she now has options
    • choose any of the items in the common block underneath the combat style - any from Close Range to Trip Opponent.
    • decide to use her Shortsword's Impale or
    • use her Buckler's Bash special effect.
When it is her turn to defend she can
    • use her Daredevil trait to evade blows without ending up prone or
    • she can passively block with her Buckler 2 locations or
    • she could actively parry with either her buckler or
    • she could actively parry with her shortsword.
Here is a bigger combat style example
    brotherhood-of-the-unsleeping-eye.png?w=190
The files here contain close to 100 combat styles described as above. The material is scourged from AIG, Monster Island, Mythras, Monster Island and my own campaign.

Yes, I've written the cults of Pavis, Fintnail, and Zola Fel for RQG. But they will appear in the Pavis & Big Rubble materials, where they belong. I also have written cults of the Bloody Tusk, Daruda, Seseine, Glamour, Geo, loads of material on the Draconic religion, and the beginnings of an Invisible God chapter. But those will all appear in other books.

This book covers Dragon Pass, Kethaela, Prax, and Peloria in great detail. From here you can work out the contours of much of the rest of Glorantha. Other than gods of the East Isles, Godunya, Path of Immanent Mastery, and Tskanth, I believe that every cult that was in the RQ3 Gods of Glorantha book is here. Long form. Like Cults of Prax or Cults of Terror.

Plus so much more - Asrelia, Barntar, Caladra & Aurelion, Choralinthor, Danfive Xaron, Dayzatar, Deezola, Hon-eel, Oslira, Polaris, Shargash, Yara Aranis, Ygg, and so much more.

Ompalam, Wachaza, Lamsabi, Selarn any chance of those

    But more interesting: when...

  11. 2 hours ago, Harrek said:

I thought Wachaza and Tsankth also, but actually after a second thought, I kind of like the idea that Um-Oradin is Ygg more. Um-Oradin is not canon, but I like the idea, so it doesn't matter. Maybe Baraku was the leader of the rebel gods invading Pamaltela, but Um-Oradin aka Ygg (no need for sail through ice feats in Pamaltela, that's why those feats are not present) was one of his fiercest captains (because YGMW).

Thanks for this davecake. I'll use this for sure.

It would be nice to hear some of your session seeds, if only with few words.

Well, it would be quite a job to write it all down. I have almost every session described as an email in finnish, but constructing 250-300 sessions to somehow publishable shape would be too much. Basically we started small, and ended up to very heroic campaign. We kind of played through Hero Wars in Prax. It's time to start a very, very different campaign now😁

Another Finn here - great. That is one very long campaign.

  12. Sorcery Grimoire for a Traditional Sorcery School in Mythras

Here is a traditional sorcery grimoire template for Mythras - this is a first tryout for my campaign's first sorcerer. This is traditional in a sense that the only options it uses is the duration length option. I will be making similar ones for various sorcery schools which have different components.
How one could use it. Player should fill it with the sorcery information relevant to your players' sorcery grimoire. During game it should help how the various shapings the player wants to use affect the spell.
Here is Grimoire of Ravenous Shark as an example:
    2020-02-29_16-08-31-shark.jpg?w=300
When he selects as a spell Shapechange to Shark with his 4 shaping points he could put 2 points into duration getting 15 minutes of shape change. After this he could put one point into targets getting 2 targets (perhaps himself and a companion). After this he could put remaining 1 point he can put 1 point into magnitude getting a magnitude of 2 and have some protection for resisting dispelling the shapechange.
This would take 1 MP for the spell itself and 1 for each shaping (Duration, Targets and Magnitude) = 4 Magic Points for the overall spell cost. It would take 4 turns to cast the spell (1 for the spell itself and 1 for each shaping).

  13. What's another year, it's been almost a year since I updated here with any new creatures. Here are:

Spirits in a Material World (Djinn special)

Was reading the Other Sinbad and Dead Djinn in Cairo for inspiration to a sea voyage that my players might be undertaking in the seas surrounding Fonrit . This reminded me that I had not yet created the mighty (and not so mighty) Djinn in the Mythras Encounter Generator.

Pete Nash did a wonderful article on Fenix papers to bring the Djinn to life in Bartimaeus style and that gave me the stats.
The Djinns use a new sorcery order “Smokeless, Scorching Fire” for example “Adept of Smokeless, Scorching Fire”.  I made three levels (Apprentice, Adept and Mage). Djinns also needed new abilities in the Enemy Ability Feature set.
Here they are approximated in Mythras Encounter Generator.

  14. My player group now have a reason to go to Garguna of Fonrit in Pamaltela from Loral. They have received knowledge that the closest Chalana Arroy temple sits there and one of them desperately needs the attention of that particular cult. There might be some other reasons as well to go to that particular city.

In addition to the obvious flavour text from GoG for Garguna what might be the surprises that they might encounter in the vicinity and on the route to Garguna in the 1620's...
