  1. Could it be they just ran out? If it is selling well maybe they will print more...

That's highly probable. After The Vampire Wars and Cthulhu Dark Ages 2nd ed were given small print runs so there world be some advance copies for sale at GenCon. In CDA 2e's case,  that small print run was an ashcan edition. Based on what I saw at GenCon, that looks to be the same with AtVW. Once GenCon was over, the left overs went up for sale on Chaosium.com.

A full, proper print run of CDA 2e will probably occur at some point later. It might be the same with AtVW. But, CoC 7e takes precedence over other stuff so they can close out that Kickstarter (as stated at GenCon).

  2. I'm with Trippy Hippy on this one. It strikes me more as True Blood turned up to 11 rather than Shadowrun. Maybe, when coupled with Enlightened Magic, it'll be BRP's answer to The Dresden Files. Personally I would have preferred early Hellblazer with the forces of magic still being secret and only known to those with power.

Granted, all this is based purely on the cover, what the web-site blurb says, and flipping through a copy at GenCon.

  3. Chaosium has added After The Vampire Wars to their catalog. It can be yours for the low price of $100,000,000.00! If only it wasn't out of stock...

Yes, I realize it's only a place holder with an outrageous price tag to prevent people from ordering it before it's available.

But, if you really want to see Chaosium publish more BRP titles, all it will take is one purchase at this price to move BRP out of the less than 10% of sales bucket.

  4. With Chaosium taking over RQ once again I can honestly see MW being used as a template for RQ in the future. Maybe not in the next few years, but eventually.

I'm not sure what you mean. It's already been publicly stated that The Design Mechanism's flavor of Runequest will be the go forward engine for RQ.

  5. did they say anything about MW?

It was lumped in with BRP. The question asked by the audience specifically called out MW, but the answer was generalized to BRP.

Also, regarding monographs, it was said that if it was good enough to become a full distro book, it would happen eventually. Otherwise, it's gone. Greg said collectors should move quickly. ;)

  6. The spells in Cthulhu dark ages have more in common with the coc book than the bgb. The upcoming Cthulhu dark ages 2nd edition (available in very limited quantities at GenCon with, perhaps a con only bonus) has a few more than the current Dark Ages book.

They can be used in pretty much any BRP powered game, as can the advice.

  7. My current favorite Planetary Romance game is Warriors of the Red Planet by Al Krombach, illustrated by Thomas Denmark. It's an OSR game working from the OD&D ruleset. It's really impressive exactly how much flavor they packed into the 134 page book.

  8. In Pendragon, knights created using the default system start with five passions. Four start at 15, one at 3d6. An additional three points can then be spread across the passions. The more involved chargen can have different passions and starting values that range 1+. Pendragon skills go to 20, so you can multiply by 5 to get percentile scores.

They can be invoked whenever the situation warrants. Bear in mind that passions are a psychological trait. By having a really high passion, a player his saying that his character wholeheartedly believes in whatever is related to the passion and is very inclined to act that way.

Mechanically, they're designed to codify how a character feels about certain things and then provide the player with a reward for playing his character that way.

Bear in mind that Pendragon is emulating the Arthruian myths as penned by Malory et al. They are very competent knights driven by very powerful emotions.

  9. This is good but I think the bonuses are a little high. It's your own houserule however so how you want to do it is up to you. I would maybe half the bonuses and give a extra 10% for a special success.

All I did for the bonuses was extrapolate the Pendragon bonuses. You are, of course, free to do whatever you want.

  10. Why don't you just tweak how they're implemented in Pendragon? IIRC, and adjusted for BRP....

Roll against passion when appropriate and select the skill to be impacted.

Critical Success: +100% to the skill  or skill is doubled, whichever is greater. Passion gains an experience check.

Success: +50% to the skill. Passion gains an experience check.

Failure: -25% to all skill rolls in the encounter that prompted rolling against the passion. Lose 1D6 points from the passion.

Fumble: Maddened. Character runs away or performs some other appropriate action.
