Hi! I heard about RD100 yesterday and I'm curious about it. I keep reading online about an SRD with the ORC license, but having trouble finding it anywhere. Is that available somewhere online or do you just buy the main book? Thanks!

The SRD released under the ORC license is not ready yet. You can find the old SRD under the OGL somewhere, but a better version is about to appear.

The first product that uses the ORC license will be Red Moon Rising, which contains a good 80-90% of the Revolution D100 rules packaged with a fantasy steampunk setting. I am reviewing the final layout as I am writing this. It is not yet decided if we will release a SRD of this game once it is out.

In a few words: you will have to wait a little bit. But our artists are working on making the product worth the wait.

It works very much like CoC 7th edition and Rivers of London where there are success levels (Regular, Hard, Extreme, Critical) and the one with the higher success level succeed. If it comes to a draw, the defender wins.

Then the issue is not there, as conajofa pointed out. If the roll is differential, a 100% defendant is by no means invulnerable, just hard to hit. It will become increasingly hard to roll better than regular for him, while the attacker has still his full chance of rolling criticals.

  3. BRP:UGE has an open license, SuperWorld does not. Mythras Imperative (the core system) is also ORC, but Destined (the superhero variant) is not, so you need permission from The Design Mechanism (usually granted if you negociate the terms with them).

So, if you intend to publish the setting, even for free, you should take these factors into account.

  4. You might also look at this :

    https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/288761/Rise-of-the-Yokai-Koku

Magic rules are way more important than the rest in a spiritually rich environment like mythic japan. In this product, developed by me with a substantial help by Gianni, I have tried to highlight the difference between Buddhist and Shinto practices, something that is really under-represented in LoN. The subtle differences between esoteric Buddhism, exoteric Buddhism and Shugendo is also somehow implemented, whereas it is lacking in LoN, where shugenja are treated as sorcerers (!). Judging from your campaign plot, you might need a detailed frepresentation of Buddhist sects.

That said, LoN is still a gold mine of info about roleplaying in fantasy/historical Japan.

Hi, I've tried to contact Alephtar Games in several ways about how to update my address for the Kickstarter. This is not a criticism of anyone's communication style. (Is it even okay to say that?) I would just like to know how to update my address, since I moved. Thanks.

Hello Pledger. No need to update your address now, you will receive a survey request in your email when your pledge level is ready to ship. You won't miss the book, be reassured.

I'll also echo what others have said.  THANK YOU!  As someone who plays exclusively online, I’ve been looking periodically for a VTT solution that would let me play BRP.  If I have that, I suspect I’ll never need to play another system (why, when you can play any setting using the same rules?).

You can also use Fantasy Grounds Unity. It is more expensive than Foundry, but it has full support for BRP and Call of Cthulhu.

  7. Hello, I post it here because there is no @moderator labelled as technical reference. Could someone create VTT subforums for the non-Chaosium D100 rulesets, or a "generic VTT" forum for technical advice on the various products? I have content that I would like to share but it is not tightly coupled to any of the Chaosium systems, so where should it go?

BRP OGL is more restrictive than ORC, and it's not clear for me how it interacts with works published under other OGL licences. It's possible that you could borrow rules from Revolution D100, but I'm not sure...

Definitely not, as it would add restrictions to the version of Revolution D100 that is released under the OGL and thus contradict the license.

However, we will release Rd100 under the ORC at some point (2024 I hope), so you will be able to borrow that for your UGE ideas.

And is Dynamic D100 actually set in a Go Nagi style multiverse with Mazinger, Getter Robo and such? Or is it more generic? FYI if it covers actual Getter Robo, you  probably got me hooked!

Question: what do you think that Getter Dragon on the cover mean?

Of course it covers actual Getter Robo.

  10. Thank you for the feedback guys.

May be simplify the Karma rules as well, even without Karma-points economy (like instead allow to re-roll or shift the success level or exchange the dice or bestow a bonus...), or at least without die-rolling the gain.

It's the easiest part to grasp, and well tested. And it really adds to the feeling of the game.

"Dynamic" does have any special mecha connotations, and instead just makes me think of a game focused towards the action genre.

On the contrary, anyone who has played Super Robot Wars knows what the Final Dynamic Special is. Check on YouTube atg. Note that the first scene of that video is the background of the Dynamic D100 combat tracker. The IP is perfectly recognizable from the brand "Dynamic".

Secondly, based on the game's granndaddy, BRP Mecha, I'd say soltakss is right that skills should be the same between games. In fact I'd say vehicles should be the same as well. That would make it much easier to port over vehicles from other sourcebooks to the game to allow games based in different times. For instance a GM might want to set a game in the 1950s and use 1950s tanks and aircraft, while another GM might want to run a Macross type peroid piece and  use vehicle designs from the 1990s, a third GM might want modern day stuff, and so on. If Dynamic uses different stats that the other Revolution games then GMs will have to redo stats for anything not included in Dynamic. If the stats are the same, they can just port them over. So the more compatibility the better.

You can use all vehicles described in Revolution D100 with DD100, without much conversion effort. However, the setting for Dynamic D100 id fixed, so no room for 1950 vintage or Macross vehicles.

Thirdly, I'd suggest putting in a chapter on Kaiju along with some sample generic Kaiju. I could see kaiju have some basic types each with their own perks and flaws that would make them a bit different to build than mecha. There is a good deal of crossover in the Giant Robot and Kaiju genres so it fits the game, and adds a whole new layer of possible adversaries (or allies). Cyborg kaiju would be another cool idea.  It also might make the game interesting to kaji fans who might otherwise not want a mecha game.

There is a Kaiju sample in the game, the GinGirGan. The rules do not explain in detail how to build a Kaiju, we might add some details about organic monsters , though. Could be a good idea.

I suppose that would depend on how the Revolution D100 version sells compared to the BRP version.

I was not implying that we would do Rd100 versions of what we do not do for BRP UGE.

To understand more clearly:  "production" here means... ms being edited?  art being sourced?  project in layout?  "yes" (it's having 1 or more of those things happen)?

In layout, and waiting for two pages of additional contents.

Okay, but since UGE is something like 99% the same as the old BGB, doesn't that also mean that if someone already has the original BRP version they won't have much of a reason to buy the UGE version?

For instance, say that I already have BRP Merrie England, what would be the point of my buying a UGE edition? I can't think of anything in the book that would need to be changed to make it UGE compatible.

Exactly. These new UGE editions are for those who missed the previous ones, or for those who have joined the d100 crew recently.

    14 hours ago, Atgxtg said:

Yeah, you could. Optionally you could just just do aBRP  addition for Merrie England with the BRP Game mechanics info or maybe even a core boook with two sets of stats. That would increase your potential customer base. Not everyone who plays BRP player Revolution D100 and vice versa. But that's your call.

Making another edition of a book is a non-trivial cost that has to be justified by a potential market. Dual-statted books are useful, but doing this for a splatbook that most of our customer base already owns is a losing bet.

Converting a BGB supplement to UGE is cheap, and it is the reason why we are doing it en masse. Even with few buyers, it is convenient.

  14. We are hijacking this thread a little bit. Moderators, could we split it into "ORC products" (generic) and "List of previous Alephtar products being ported to BRP UGE"?

This is mostly about BRP UGE, so it does not belong in the Alephtar / Cloud100 section of the forum, which is about Revolution D100.

I have to ask about BRP Mecha.

You've noted previously that due to it's nature it's not an easy book to adapt to Revolution D100, so maybe ORC would be a better option.

The successor to BRP Mecha is Dynamic D100.

Of course, we could make a new supplement about the real robot genre (Gundam, Macross, etc) but since it would require a good deal of adaptation, it would be almost surely a Revolution D100 book. The original BRP Mecha contained a lot of BRP variants that were later ported to RD100.

As a rule of thumb, products that were published as BRP originally, without big rule variants, will be ported to BRP UGE. The others are more likely to become Revolution D100 games.

Theoretically, we could do also Merrie England Age of Chivalry for BRP again, so having this setting available for both systems.

  16. I can now confirm that Crusaders of the Amber Coast is in production for the ORC edition of BRP, and that I have a new manuscript for Tian Xia - the Celastial Empire 99% ready, which will enter production soon. Wind on the Steppes will probably follow.

In other news:  Alephtar is now "Cloud Games" but I think their older BRP titles are more-likely to see new life under their own d100-variant ruleset, "RD100."  @RosenMcStern would know more; I think he plans to ORC some of what they publish, but obviously cannot ORC a licensed product.

And instead no, we plan to re-release some of the original content for the new BRP ORC. Only some titles will be translated to Revolution D100, like Merrie England.

I cannot give you an ETA for these products , though. Work is underway. What I can tell you is that today we have released in PDF the first product bearing the Cloud100 logo (not BRP). More will follow.

I don't know where an editable character sheet for BRP is, though I wouldn't be surprised if there is one... However, I wonder if @RosenMcStern of Alephtar Games might have a Italian version of the character sheet about somewhere... Any ideas Rosen?

I think Giochi Uniti might still have in stock some copies of the old Stratelibri BRP in Italian (circa 1996). It is a very, very reduced set based on the old 32-page booklet, but it is still enough to wet the appetites of Italian players and persuade them to study Jason's latest "opus magnum" in English. And of course there's a character sheet, albeit simplified.

  19. We are in the process of writing additional materials for the next reprint of Dynamic D100. I was thinking that we could also take advantage of the opportunity to make minor corrections and clarifications.

The target of the game is clearly defined as "fans of vintage mecha anime", who will appreciate it in any case out of nostalgy. However, the robot combat rules require a certain amount of system mastery. Your average anime fan is probably more willing to enjoy a "sit down and play" kind of game, while Dynamic D100 requires some study of the rules that a casual gamer may not appreciate.

We have already removed the character creation phase, as the players will play the classic heroes, so you can in fact grab a character sheet and start playing. How can we present the rules in a simpler format?

My first idea is to split robot combat rules into basic and advanced and let players learn gradually. Basic rules would include only:

    • ground movement
    • ranged attacks and their combat effects
    • punching and grappling
    • battlecries

The amount of rules to memorize would be halved, but this would be enough to run a simple combat including Mazinger Z (without Scrander), Venus (without Scrander and enhanced weapons) and Jeeg (without Mach Drills and with the Big Shooter not joining the fight). The players would then move on to the full rules and the remaining robots.

What do you think? What else woul you do to make the game experience simpler?

  20. Thank you very much for this valuable feedback.

One thing that maybe was not clear: the SRD we may release at the moment would be the SRD of Red Moon Rising, not the general SRD. Luckily, Red Moon Rising contains a good 80% of the entire ruleset, and I think you can easily create your own game world with it, but some elements (divine magic, cantrips, vehicle combat, overcome spells, etc.) are not there, and we are not yet ready to release them.

As for whether Red Moon Rising would be beneficial for RD100 in general, please remember that in many cases the presence of a strong IP that fits the system has been essential for the viability of a game line. I am a great fan of generic BRP, but what has kept the system alive over the years was in fact Call of Cthulhu and RuneQuest. For this reason, our current priority is certainly Red Moon Rising, that allows us to add good contents, both textual and visual, to the rules.

  21. I wish to share some considerations about the licensing model for the Red Moon Rising RPG. Paizo’s new license, the ORC, is now available, and we wish to use this, and not the OGL, for all future declinations of Revolution D100, including Red Moon Rising. Rose has already given her consent to releasing the game rules as ORC licensed material, and keeping all the lore as reserved material that is not free to use without her consent.

There is also the subject of how and when to release a System Reference Document (SRD). The SRD is a useful tool for those fans who wish to use the rules as a base for their own games, and it is usually released as soon as the complete game is available. We know that many fans are eager to see a streamlining of the Revolution D100 rules, and Red Moon Rising does exactly this, in preparation for the International Edition of RD100. I now have a consolidated, fully edited text for Red Moon Rising. We might be tempted to publish the SRD earlier, rather than wait for the availability of the full game of Red Moon Rising (ETA: Christmas 2023 or early 2024).

What do you think? Would it be beneficial? Or detrimental? Would it be respectful for the backers of Red Moon Rising who have paid in advance and waited so long?

Or would you rather see a list of the changes to the rules introduced in Red Moon Rising, and scheduled to appear in the International Edition?
