  1. There is another level here, which I'm not math-savvy enough to properly explain.

BRP has 5 levels of success, while Legend/RQ only has 4.

But BRP mostly just uses the 3 first levels - Critical, Special and Success. Failure and Fumble rarely do anything other than "Nope. Better luck next time, bub."

BRP's rolls stand more on their own as opposed to Legend's opposed/differential roll-mechanic.

Legend actively uses the failure ranges as well, effectively ending up having as many as, or one more, success-level than BRP, depending on how harshly you rule fumbles.

Could you explain that one. In Legend you fumble on a 99 or a 00 unless your modified skill is over 100% in which case it is only on a 00. In the BGB (p172-174) your chance for a fumble can be as large as 96 though 00 (at skill levels 20% or lower) though 00 (which starts at 81%). It seems like Legend white washes Fumbles much more than the BGB does.

  2. Not a bug per se but feedback on a difference that I like.

On most forums the number of posts made changes on every post on the forum as soon as you make a new post. It seems like this forum tracks it by message so this message will say 81 posts even after I make an 82nd (based on observations on my new thread on the Legend forum). Some may think this a bug. I like this feature personally. :)

EDIT: Never mind. It was because I was posting into a thead that was on my screen, as soon as I went back all pots said 81 posts. Ah well.

  3. Main thing is combat manoeuvres. You will generate a *lot* more of them.

Yeah, there's a whole table for comparing degrees of success in Combat in the BGB which I'd be porting over also. So it sounds like you are saying it won't fundamentally break the system to do this.

  4. Does anyone see any problem retooling the degrees of success in Legend (Critical, Success, Failure, Fumble) to match those from BRP (Critical, Special, Success, Failure, Fumble). I am considering doing this for a game (where I was going to use BRP but am switching to Legend based for how attributes affect skills) and cannot see any problem as long as I make it a universal change. I'd like to see if I'm missing any inherit complications from this choice from others' POVs.

  5. I prefer the Skill calculation from LEGEND/RQ6/OQ as it places more direct emphasis on the characteristics,

I was considering using Legend but I am concerned about the fact that skills can never be as low as in the BGB. (i.e. no skills below 10% or so) However that would give a benefit of more likely successes... And that would fix my concern about Skill Category Bonuses.

  6. Although I think I know what it is I was wondering what exactly that is about. I figure it is either from other users clicking "Report" or from the admins officially dinging the user. However, since it is a new feature an explanation would be nice.

  7. So, has anyone dealt with this quandary? Education is an optional rule that I don't want to turn on but Skill Category Bonuses (a completely different optional rule that I like) includes Education as a factor for Mental skills. I've been trying to come up with a solution myself but haven't found one that satisfies me yet so I wanted to ask others opinions.

The solutions I have come up with are:

    1. Use Education also (not a solution I like as I dislike the trait, but that's another discussion entirely)
    2. Don't use Skill Category Bonuses (also not a solution as I think Characteristics should affect skill, but I don't want to go to Legend where /all/ skill bases are Characteristics, I like the fact that some skill bases are very low from the BGB)
    3. Drop EDU from the Mental bonuses and do nothing else - unfortunately this disadvantages Mental skills as it looses a quarter of the potential bonuses the other skills enjoy
    4. Drop EDU from the Mental bonuses and make POW a co-primary with INT - this balances the potential bonuses but makes Mental different from the others again... but this is potentially okay because Physical is also different as it is the only one suffering a penalty from SIZ
    5. Drop EDU from the Mental bonuses and drop one from every other Skill category also - this again balances the potential bonuses but is a much farther deviation from the RAW (for example: Combat Skills - normally DEX primary, INT and STR secondary - could be split into "Brainy" Combat Skills which would be all ranged weapons except for Missile Weapons plus Martial Arts would have DEX primary and INT secondary while "Brawny" Combat Skills which would be all close combat skills except for Martial Arts plus Missile Weapons would have DEX primary and STR secondary; naturally the other categories would need to be divided up like that)
  8. Incidentally, go see My Life In Shadows. Hilarious NZ movie about a group of vampires living in contemporary Wellington, filmed in mockumentary style. It has Jermaine Clement in it, of Flight of The Conchords fame.

is this streamable anywhere? (I keep finding a Judy Garland movie when I try to search for it or information about it)

  9. Trying to upload a file in Chrome. Firstly the Choose File button was non-responsive but once that started working and I tried to add the PDF file (which is 521KB) I was told "Error You aren't permitted to upload this kind of file"

  10. Unrelated to Labyrinth Lord, here's a duck-related article but I'm not sure what language it is in or what year it came out:

sayerson found or uploaded an English version for us. It can be found here.

EDIT: Correction, that uploaded copy is gone. I'm trying to get a copy uploaded to this site but am having problems, will update the thread when I am able to do so.

  11. A few weeks ago I put together a list of minor powers called Edges. They are skill oriented, each one requires you to have the relevant skill at 50% for the basic Edge, and 100% for the advanced Edge. Power wise they are about equal with the feats from D&D, in fact some of the edges are inspired from D&D. They require a Power point to activate for the scene, or turn if the duration is instant. I originally put them together for the Legend RPG, but they could be easily adapted to BRP.

Cool, CF. Could you put a link to that document (or thread) here? Or was it your Pulp Edges thread?

  12. Back to the original discussion...

Magnus Seter has replied in Google+. He has confirmed he was the author of the Ankori file and told me that there is no translation but... he offered to whip one together. I've told him that would be really cool. Will update if I hear more.

  13. Between the Chaosium store, drivethrurpg.com, and the fan stuff here, you can find 99% of what's out there.

But wouldn't it be nice to be able to see the full list in one place rather than from here to the wilds of Bora Bora?

  14. Would people want this enough to donate a few bucks to help with server costs? (Mainly just registration which is about $15 a year, I already have a server)

But really, why set up a webpage and pay for a server just to do a list of what is and what was?

There are many free wiki sites that could be used for this purpose...

  15. Actually my wife and I do something similar with unfavorable weather reports. If it looks to be bad, we again chant "I disbelieve, I disbelieve, oh my God, I disbelieve". There must be some power to it as at least 50% of the time it works. :P

    Rod

Its real world magic. Belief does have an affect on reality which is why you don't want to put energy into negative thoughts. The universe sees no difference between "I don't want to be sick" and "I want to be sick" either will make it more likely you become sick.
