  1. Thank you for the links, this is really interesting stuff ! :D

But, Oops, I thought I had come up with something more original ... :(

The similarities caused by using GURPS Space as a sourcebook were to

be expected, but the same name ...

In my setting the name came from "N-Key", because the system's on-

ly remotely earthlike planet had a numerical description code as a "Non-

Habitable Planet" - an "N-Key" in scout parlance.

Therefore at least no more Sumerian planet names in my setting's sys-

    tem ...

Well, and the colonists can always give their new homeworld a new ma-

    me, I think ...

Just name it after a trait the planet has. Call it "Sandy Eggo"

  2. Hey, I went to a presentation by Loraine Warren, subject of this book: Amazon.com: The Demonologist: The Extraordinary Career of Ed and Lorraine Warren: Gerald Brittle: Books and I thought it would be good to recommend this book to anyone who plays CoC or any other horror setting. This is the "last word" in demonology and explains everything that happens when a demon is going to possess a person.

I actually read this book about ten years ago. I still think it's the most terrifying book I've ever read (and I LOVE horror).

The late Ed Warren and his surviving wife Loraine are actually hoaxers, or are just people who just don't bring too much scientific validity to their investigations. But, despite that, this book is still the very best book on demonology ever written, as well as the most frightening. It is a superb resource for horror role playing.

  3. I can't wait for it because there's not much in the way of hard sf out there. I'm more into survival horror and a game that can combine rules that make the environment just as dangerous as the monsters that are faced--and it's in space!--is something that interests me quite a bit. I look forward to my characters battling it out in varying degrees of gravity. Plus the satisfaction of shooting the bad guys out of an airlock with very well researched effects of vacuum to dessicate (and whatnot) the bad guy. It just adds more realism.

I haven't heard back from the creator's of Translight, yet. If anyone else wants to contact them, please do.

  4. The only text version I ever found was actually an incomplete draft of 2nd edition Other Suns, and IIRC Niall Shapero wasn't best pleased that even that version was online. I doubt he'd be happy about any PDF scan of the first edition being distributed either...

When he was posting to the RQ rule list a few years ago he sold a "galley proof" of the 2nd Edition - I did urge him then to look in to Lulu or similar means of distributing it as it's a shame its not more widely accessible. If anyone here is in reliable contact with him it might be worth raising with him again.

    Cheers,

    Nick

After I posted my initial comments, I did some research into FGU and found they have a bad reputation for being really anal about their products--and simply not taking fan requests and such to heart. I was at their website, but I don't remember seeing any 'contact us' links.

  5. Not that I have a lot of spare time, but I'm going to try to create a GURPS-like point-buy system including adv/dis. If anyone wants to chime in with suggestions feel free.

I agree with soltakss. Supplements are where it's at.

I like my idea of using Pow vs. Pow. You can take 10 or any other number of character points and it will be '10' that you roll against on the Resistance chart. If it's a disadvantage, you get extra character points back; maybe twice as many as was used for the disadvantage. If it's an advantage, the points used are simply gone.

  6. I need to be a member of that sight and its recruiting is closed

I do not suppose any one else has this as a PDF, OR SOME SUCH link to get it>

    :D

I'm having that same problem. I found a plain text download of all the rules somewhere. Probably tomorrow, when I'm at my own computer, I'll post it.

Does someone own it and can you make it into a pdf?

  7. I'm going to stick by my comment about adding a adv/dis to BRP would be easy. I've seen quite a few of them, and they pretty much boil down to: take so many points or levels of a disadvantage, and add so many points to your character points. Take so many points or levels of an advantage, subtract so many points from your character points. It's always about evening out the characters with the rest of the group, while trying to add a new dimension to the role playing.

Personally, I don't care for them unless they are significant. Every person I've played with always played their characters with good adv/dis, and the gameplay always took the way they played their characters into consideration. If there were reoccurring patterns of behavior in the characters, the GM would just have the player mark it down as a trait. And the GM would throw in "temptations" and whatnot to get the player to use that trait.

  8. (it only grudgingly supports a point build approach, for example, and doesn't have a disadvantage system).

    What's a point build approach?

Also, the disadvantage system seems like something that can be taken from any other game system and added to BRP--or just created on the fly ("the PC has a 50% chance of getting drunk"; or just say the potential of him getting drunk is '10' or any other number, and have him fight it on the Resistance table as a POW vs. POW sort of thing. And the higher the number means more character points).

  9. Well, I actually bought the CD some time ago, but haven't gotten around to read it. Reading comics on the computer wasn't really that much fun...

    SGL.

I also have the CD, but still haven't gotten around to reading it.

  10. Doesn't look primising does it :(

I won't hold my breath then.

Someone just needs to buy this DEADWORLD Comic Collection CD and be knowledgeable of BRP

Why wouldn't they be working more closely with the creators? Especially if it's just background material they need?

Again, my ignorance of the rpg industry is going to shine through, but you'd think they would get better support from the people who created Deadworld, since the game will allow the fans to play in that world.

  11. Hi all, texaspoet here, I've been gaming since '78, and have played everything major. :P I do a lot of illustration, I make a lot of character sheets and such, and I just posted my in progress EXCEL sheet for BRP. I'm running a fantasy campaign using it atm, and am about to run a "all the power systems" supers game. :P watch out! anyhoo, look forward to contributing widgets and such in the future. :D

    Welcome aboard, texaspoet!
