  1. Anyone know what the purchase threshold is for free shipping? I had a couple of tangible products that I wanted to buy, but was not above the free shipping threshold (and couldn't find it on the site -- which is bad marketing. The free shipping is supposed to entice me to buy more, but it doesn't do that if I don't know how much more I need to buy)

    Steve

Here you go. Not sure where you live, so here's the US and Foreign shipping policies.

FREE SHIPPING ALERT: We offer free shipping for U.S. orders over $60.00. Please allow 7-10 days for arrival. This feature triggers automatically for qualifying U.S. orders.

OVERSEAS SHIPMENTS: we haven't forgotten you! Orders to overseas ship-to addresses can also earn free shipping for orders of $125.00 or more. To trigger FREE SHIPPING, you must enter the secret I WANT FREE SHIPPING code in the REDEEM COUPON space during checkout. Such orders are sent out by space-bound byakhee, so will take some time to arrive.

  2. somewhere on line there is an adaptation or just a doc(?) version of other suns, if it is in the open, what kinda of issue would there be with copyright?

Just because someone posted a copy of copyrighted material to the web doesn't remove the copyright. The copyright holder can enforce his copyright at any time.

  3. I'm a regular at RPGGeek. It just went live in early August. If you've heard of BoardGameGeek, it's the RPG side of things.

To be honest, it's still trying to find its legs. Right now there's more "indie" presence than you might think for a site designed to cover all types of RPGs.

I'm also a regular at rpgGeek. It's a great site. Yeah, it's just getting started, but it'll get there.

It has a very different format from a lot of other web forums out there. Every game and game book could conceivably have it's own forum. But they are also all linked to make navigation easy. It sounds odd, but it works. My user ID here is the same user ID I use there, so you can track me down over there if you have questions.

  4. I'll be running BRP at MACE, a gaming convention in High Point, NC, USA that runs from Nov. 6-8th.

What am I running exactly? I don't know. I'm running BRP as part of their GM Improv contest. I'm handed a two paragraph plot summary fifteen minutes before the start of the session. The rest has to be made up on the fly.

If you're in the area, stop by and check it out.

  5. I'm in KItchener Ontario, but currently travel two and a half hours to get to my gamng group. A situation that is not sustainable, so if anyone out there in my area is looking for a player/GM, I'm your man.

    Cheers

Welcome, Paul! You might want to check out nearbygamers.com. It shows a large number of entries near Kitchener.

  6. I don't have the book yet, but just found out I'm tangentially mentioned in one of the scenarios. So far, I've been mentioned in both BRP Adventure books. First as an NPC in The Caravan in the first collection and then as a battle cry in Fools Rush In in the second collection.

I'm still trying to decide if this is something to be proud of or not. ;)

  7. However, I am a little confused by your comment about the base chance being figured into your skill ranking. Is that not how it is supposed to work? You spend your points to buy a skill in a specific class of weapon, such as pistol-energy, and then you add the base chance to it?

I track the weapons skill separately, using the granular rules described on page 258. Players can have different skill levels in different, but similar weapons which are tracked separately and accumulate experience separately.

    Think of it this way...

    Blaster has a 15% base.

    Laser has a 20% base.

At character creation, you decide to put 100 points into those two skills, split 50/50

    Blaster becomes 65%

    Laser becomes 70%

Later in the game, you use the laser and get an experience check. You succeed at the check and gain 6 points.

    Blaster stays at 65%

    Laser becomes 76%

If I used Weapon Classes, which it looks like you're doing, I'd decide on a base skill for Pistols, Energy and add skill points to that instead of whatever is listed for each individual pistol. Then, regardless of whichever type of Energy Pistol my character picked up, he'd have the same rating.

  8. It looks good. Can't wait to read it.

I've been meaning to ask you this for a while, Fergo, but I notice your avatar looks like a screencap from LOTRO. Are you still playing the game? I was in it from closed beta until recently. I decided it was time to take a break... I think I'll be heading back in soon, though.

Which server are you on? I'm on Landroval.

  9. Look no farther than CTHULHU BY GASLIGHT for some decent background on Victorian London. :) It has some excellent pics of period costumes and a map of London (which I still have from my boxed set!).

The Smoke is another good option. One thing I prefer about this book is the map is hyperlinked to the text. Click on a section of the map and it takes you to the relevant text.

  10. While I have no control over the nature of characters created for Fractured Hopes, I can categorically deny the presence of any self-pleasuring rules, either implied or overt.:D

I'd just like to quote Simon Phipp's #1 rule for BRP: "If you can do it in real life you should be able to do it in BRP"

  11. Anyone know why this isn't linked from the BRP menu selection in the Chaosium site? You have to know it's in the Downloadable Books section and go to the last page!

    Steve

A flag not set properly? I let Dustin know and it'll probably get cleaned up quick.

  12. I've seen this in sigs, what does it refer to?

My girlfriend thinks it is something to do with the 4/20 cannabis thing but I'm guessing it is something else (so kudos to her if it is).

    So, what does it mean?

There were 420 numbered copies of the BRP Zero edition book produced.

  13. It also seems 3d6 is overly generous, but this does greatly depend ok how many skills are being rolled for, and how often I allow those rolls. I've also not experienced the effect of skill leveling becoming more difficult as skill rises, so maybe this won't be as bad as I expect.

I'm not sure where the 3d6 came from.

Page 182 of the book says the following:

Add 1D6 percentiles to a skill after a successful experience

    roll.

Bear in mind, the higher a skill becomes the harder it is to get better. The player has to roll over his character's skill level. Not below. If you're playing CoC, you don't add 1/2 the character's INT as a bonus.
