  1. Hmmm - any chance of a reciprocal arrangement? Us customers here on the right side of the Pond being able to buy other Chaosium stuff from you (i.e. without the prohibitive trans-atlantic shipping costs) ?

I am definitely no reseller or distributor. However, a problem does exist about this. I think the best option is to ask if Chaos Society can distribute some products, with the added bonus of NO shipping costs if you buy books at Tentacles. I'll contact Osentalka later this day about this.

  2. Ahem, sorry for the mess on the web page. I was at a Convention last weekend and could not do a better job for now. But I think most members on BRP Central are more interested in the book contents.

Well, taking advantage of fergo's post, here are the latest news: The book is ready. Dario received the cover artwork last night (first class stuff) and is now finalizing everything, so there is just the last proofreading and corrections. I will release previews later this week, and preordering will start soon (for Tentacles attendees only).

The release date is confirmed: May 29, 2009 at Tentacles Convention, Castle Stahleck, Bacharach. US customers will be able to purchase the book from Chaosium at about the same date.

  3. I have some maps of 13th century europe (what a coincidence :D ). PM me for references, but the reply could be delayed because I am ultra-busy this weekend.

In any case, googling a bit will give you several usable results. But be prepared to re-draw the map, I do not think there is any free historical map of Europe available.

  4. I don't know about that. By that logic the game should use the d20 rules system.

I'll rephrase it as "The official solution should be the one that appeals to most players, barring the effects of marketing."

  5. I'd like divide the roll by the stat to get the "stat mutiple" and have the lower multiple win.

 That's exactly how we handle it. But 90% of my group has a degree in some scientific discipline. Dividing a roll by a number to learn what the success level is would be cool, but it isn't for everyone.

It looks easy to me, but I know if I tried it several of my players would look at me and freeze up-- much like watching streaming video on a dial up connection.

It could. For those who like the opposed stat rules.

Point is that you or Frogspawner do not, but the average player does. So the "official" solution should be the one that appeals to most. But nothing prevents you (or me) from using a math-heavy method if the group is fine with it.

  6. Give them extra skill points and throw in only Goblins at first, giving the PCs a numeric advantage. Then use Healing spells and potions to decrease the chance of characters dying for bad luck with parries.

The first time a character is on the verge of dying for an impaled gobling spear, they'll learn to be cautious in combat. Once they have learned how to survive (but they are not pissed off by too many PC deaths) you can throw in the Demon or the Dragon: they'll be scared, but they'll win. And remember, protective and weapon magic in BRP is way more powerful than in D&D (whereas direct damage magic is not), so throwing in a magician and a couple enchanted items makes for waaaay more survivability and fun than doubling hit points.

  7. All this will indeed be useful, as the old spell lists are all very out of print. But it will create a lot of confusion, as many of the old standard RQ spells are now in MRQ (and in the SRD, so they circulate freely w/o copyright issues). We could end up with Just Another Version of Bladesharp and Shield.

  8. Obviously, printing the game effect would be a no-no, since that's copywritten

This copyright stuff is hardly endorsable. And just FYI, if the cards are well done I doubt Chaosium would object making them licensed game additions. I still have three licensed BRP supplements I can produce this year, after Rome.

Just another way to say: nice idea.

  9. I meant, when the object (usually a .44 magnum) falls off Chuck's hand and he is technically Disarmed. That's the start of the real show.

And please do not post the entire Chuck Norris facts list here....

  10. In cover, Superior position and Inferior Position are relative to an opponent, so I would not call them conditions. Wounded, minor, is a condition but has no effect in BRP.

Finally, Disarmed is not a condition. It's just an object that fell off your hand. And in Chuck Norris movies, it usually means that the real fight is about to start.

  11. If your "druid" must be a nature-lover shapeshifting healer as it is common in commercial fantasy like D&D or WoW, there is a good depiction of Druids in Signs & portents, the free Mongoose zine. Cannot remember the exact issue but it should be between 38 and 42, and there's an index somewhere, here or on the MRQ wiki. Of course it's for MRQ so it uses Rune Magic and Heroic Abilities, but these are easy to adapt.

If you want a real historical druid then you just need a spirit magic practitioner without shapeshifting or discorporation abilities. I'll provide a description for it in Stupor Mundi 2 but we are definitely not close to publishing it, so I suppose you cannot wait.

  12. Lulu is a solution to the problem of small producers not being able to handle the costs of mass printing, stocking, mailing, etc. But it is not a cheap solution. The sooner other services appear, the best (thx for the suggestion thalaba). And yes, PDF sales are tracked. This will become more important when licensed products start to appear on Chaosium's web page. Got the picture guys? (pun intended:D )

  13. Access to lulu by chaosium directly could be more convenient for fans but would be less-than-professional for them. I would not advise it at all.

The recent increase in the demand for POD services will probably cause a decrease in prices soon. However lulu, as the business initiator, will probably keep the prices higher. As soon as a better site shows up, many companies will change provider. This will provide more value-for-your money to fans.

I doubt I will find a better provider in time for the release of Rome, but I can assure you that I am actively looking for it.

  14. Anyhow, a POD distributor for Chaosium monographs in Europe would have been most welcome. Currently, I only buy printed stuff from Chaosium whenever I get enough to go over the free shipping limit.

The Chaos Society could be a solution. They usually keep a stock of a lot of products, why not BRP monographs in print?

Andre, if you are reading this, please honk.

  15. I cannot vouch for D20, as I do not buy that stuff, but some of the products that came out for MRQ were good, some were of arguable quality (but not junk in any case). But even Mongoose products were not all fantastic, as everyone agrees, so you can expect mixed quality from everyone. BRP stuff so far is definitely above average, including the monographs.

There is only one licensee at present :innocent: . I hope that they can keep up with the good quality. And that more licensees appear.
