  1. Chaosium has appointed Community Ambassadors for its Miskatonic Repository and Jonstown Compendium community content programs on DriveThruRPG. The Miskatonic Repository is Chaosium's platform on DriveThruRPG for independent creators of gaming material for the Call of Cthulhu tabletop roleplaying game. It was launched in December 2018. The Jonstown Compendium, established in December 2019, fulfils the same function for RuneQuest and Greg Stafford's world of Glorantha. The success of these fan-driven programs is evident by their thriving communities of creators and the rapidly growing number of titles available, with more added every week. Allan Carey (below left) is the Miskatonic Repository Community Ambassador and Nick Brooke (below right) is the Jonstown Compendium Community Ambassador. On Chaosium's behalf, they will act as a first point-of-call and helpful sound board for prospective Miskatonic Repository and Jonstown Compendium content creators. They can provide advice with the various aspects of creating and publishing a community content work, including ideas generation, IP issues, writing, editing, art direction, layout, publication, and preparing a title for print-on-demand. They can also direct queries to the appropriate person at Chaosium or DriveThruRPG if need be. "Nick was recently awarded the Greg Stafford Memorial Award for Gloranthan Fandom for 2020 for his passionate advocacy of the Jonstown Compendium. We're happy to formalise that advocacy with this appointment. And Allen is a highly experienced and award-winning content creator with a deep and dedicated love of the Call of Cthulhu RPG. We are pleased to have both on board to work directly with our growing band of independent writers and artists at DriveThruRPG," said Chaosium vice president Michael O'Brien.

From my Casino Town Rumors (WIP): Here's some more from that WIP: 19. The House of Hemrehana – the masarin trader Hemrehana is from distant Garguna and resides in Nochet, but maintains this establishment in Casino Town. It is overseen by one of her most trusted slaves, a blue-skinned Malubadou alchemist from the fragrant city of Polostan. The House of Hemrehana offers Fonritian scents, unguents and salves (and, some say, exotic poisons). GM Notes: Hemrehana's perfume business in Casino Town is actually a cover for her scheme to corner the supply of ambergris. In Nochet, the price of ambergris has reached stupendous levels, with agents of King Guilmarn the Fat and the Golden Elixir Monks of the Dragon Tiger Hills furiously outbidding each other for any that comes on the market (the Kralorelan monks need it for their potions of immortality; the Seshnelan King loves to eat ambergris with eggs for breakfast). The wily Hemrehana has made deals with the local Ludoch, whose own undersea trading networks spread wide across the oceans. The transactions are made at predetermined times on an isolated beach an hour or so away from Casino Town, far from scrutiny.

  8. The Children of Fear, our epic new multi-part campaign for Call of Cthulhu is now out in PDF!* In September 1923, an urgent and mysterious telegram plunges the investigators into an epic journey across China, Central Asia, Northern India, and Tibet. Often following in the footsteps of the famous Chinese Buddhist monk and explorer Hiuen-Tsiang (immortalized in the fantastical Chinese saga Journey to the West), they must visit looted temples, lost lakes, dusty museums, charnel grounds, venerable monasteries, and hidden secret valleys if they are to succeed in their quest to prevent the King of Fear and his lieutenants from destroying everything they hold dear… Developed over four years of meticulous research, consultations, and playtesting, Lynne Hardy's The Children of Fear explores myths and legends of Central Asia and Northern India. *buy the PDF now, get the full price of the PDF off the cost of the 416 page hardback book when it out early next year. https://www.chaosium.com/the-children-of-fear-pdf A wealth of player hand-outs and maps enhance both the player experience and immersion! The Children of Fear includes six pre-generated characters so players can jump right into the action. A host of non-player characters, all with their own agendas, accompany new Cthulhu Mythos monsters for use in any Call of Cthulhu scenario. The Children of Fear features the 2020 Spectrum 27 award-winning art of Sija Hong, 'The Three Lords of Shambhala' shown above.

  11. For an interesting and insightful discussion about the history of Chaosium, have a listen to The Vintage RPG Podcast's Stu Horvath chatting to Rollin' Bones with Ryan Howard:
  12. WEARING MOD HAT AGAIN As stated earlier in this thread: This thread has diverged a long way from the initial topic. Folks, you want to continue having a discussion about representation of female characters across the editions of KAP, please go start another thread. Update: in fact, one such thread has already started:
  13. I will restate something from the original announcement because it is important that these flat wrong assertions don't go unchallenged. As was clearly stated in the announcement, Greg started work on this new edition ten years ago. Since that time, it has gone through multiple development phases and is at last nearly ready for its public debut. Greg called this, and always intended it to be, his “ultimate edition” and we are proud to see it finally coming to fruition. We at Chaosium are proud to be stewards of Greg's legacy. Despite all his other groundbreaking accomplishments as a game designer, Greg considered King Arthur Pendragon to be his masterpiece, his magnum opus. What is presented here and will be presented in the 6th edition is Greg's ultimate vision for the Pendragon RPG, Greg's work, and what Greg wanted.
  14. Yeah, Tink is a certified shithole, squalid, barren and dusty, yet passers-by are continually amazed that the next valley beyond is so green and luscious, and the forests there are rich with produce and game. If the folk of Tink just up and moved a few miles further into the valley they'd literally be in clover and wouldn't have live in such poverty-stricken squalor. Settlers who are tempted to do so no doubt snicker at the stupidity of the denizens of Tink as they pass through the town, and don't get why the Tinkites scoff back at them and shake their heads...
  15. Reviewer Andrew Logan Montgomery says, about THE ADVENTURE OF THE GREAT HUNT, "This is a terrific Arthurian adventure, and the perfect example of why Pendragon remains one of the best loved and most celebrated games of all time... I suspect that watching us from distant Avalon (or probably, knowing the old shaman, from visions in his Crystal Cave), Greg is grinning." https://andrewloganmontgomery.blogspot.com/2020/10/the-adventure-of-great-hunt-king-arthur.html
  16. From time-to-time humans opportunistically come to settle on the fringes of this rich, fertile and seemingly uninhabited region of Dragon Pass, dismissing the cautions of their neighbors. They might even live and prosper there for years, undisturbed or ignored by the dragonewts. And then, without warning, the dragonewts come and exterminate them. And people forget and the cycle continues... Yep, Mostali society resembles Alpha Complex, with the clones all professing to be loyal citizens yet each harboring guilty secrets, heresies, and mutations. The World Machine is your friend...
  17. Here's what that FB post said, and the images shared: Our massive new Call of Cthulhu campaign THE CHILDREN OF FEAR will be out in PDF early next week; and in full-color hardcover early next year. As always, if you buy the PDF from Chaosium.com you get the full price of the PDF off the cost of the printed book when it is out. Among the downloads you'll receive is a 44 page Handouts and Map Pack, featuring the superlative cartography of Vandel J. Arden, Matt Ryan, and Olivier Sanfilippo. The maps, handouts etc are included in the book, but can be downloaded for printing separately.
  18. Wearing Mod Hat: This thread has diverged a long way from the initial topic. Folks, you want to continue having a discussion about representation of female characters across the editions of KAP, please go start another thread. If you wish to continue discussing the KAP6 Quickstart, cool. But @Atgxtg, you've already said on another thread that KAP6 is going to be a "dealbreaker" for you and you won't be picking it up, so you might want to move on to something else.

  22. Last weekend the first Miskatonic Repository Con was held online, organised by Miskatonic Repository creators themselves. Chaosium’s global community of players got a chance to see the best that Chaosium’s community creators have to offer, with Keepers from the Cult of Chaos running gaming sessions, and Repository creators themselves playtesting their own scenarios. In addition to all the gaming, the con featured two panels which will be of interest to prospective community content creators: Publishing Panel Are you looking to publish your Call of Cthulhu scenario or supplement? Chaosium's online collection of user-made content - the Miskatonic Repository - allows creators to sell their own original Call of Cthulhu material. The community of creators that has developed around the Miskatonic Repository provides a ready-resource for any authors looking to get their start, but who are struggling with developing their ideas or navigating the process of turning them into published products. In this panel from the first ever Miskatonic Repository Convention, Meredith Gerber, RPG Publisher Relations Representative for DriveThruRPG, leads a discussion of what it takes to publish on the Miskatonic Repository. She is joined by Chaosium vice president Michael O'Brien; writer and reviewer Pookie from the Reviews from R'lyeh blog; RPG designer and game design lecturer Marek Golonka; and from Golden Goblin Press, author William Adcock. Writing Panel Are you a new RPG writer working on your Call of Cthulhu scenario or supplement? Writing within the Cthulhu Mythos, where death and madness may lurk behind every door, poses a number of unique design challenges for even veteran authors. Chaosium's online collection of user-made content - the Miskatonic Repository - allows creators to sell their own original Call of Cthulhu material and explore some of these challenges while putting their own spin on the Cthulhu Mythos. The community of creators that has developed around the Miskatonic Repository provides a ready-resource for authors looking for help with their writing, whether it be help with brainstorming, sensitivity reading, editing, layout, and much else. In this panel from the first ever Miskatonic Repository Convention, author Heinrich Moore leads a discussion on writing for the Miskatonic Repository. He is joined by Chaosium Creative Director Mike Mason; author Jon Hook from the Miskatonic University Podcast; author Matthew Sanderson from the podcast The Good Friends of Jackson Elias; and president of Golden Goblin Press, Oscar Rios. Chaosium thanks Niels Von Douten, Marek Golonka and the rest of the organising team for staging the convention, the volunteer Keepers who ran the games, and Max Writer for recording and posting these videos.
