  1. For those who didn't read Peter Metcalfe's answer here:

    "As often as he wants.

It's only when he or she releases the spirit at a bonus of 3 (HQ:Glorantha p136) that the spirit is knackered and the charm temporarily still."

I understand the Communities as keywords. Am I right ? Is it possible to have a contact as a break-out of a community ?

In S:KoH as well as in P:GtA your character did indeed have a Community keyword. Sadly not so anymore in HQ:G where the HW:RiG/ HQ:RiG concept of a Culture keyword was reintroduced & where you only have a Community ability.

  3. P. 95: "CLAN CHIEFTAIN: KULBRAST OFFIRSON g[lW]"

[Contra S:KoH, p. 123: "Opposed Runes Orlanth is in conflict with the runes of Chaos (?), Moon (/) and Stasis (c)."]

    P. 96: "Kulbrast Offirson g[lW]"

As a non-illuminated initiate of Orlanth, Kulbrast cannot have the Stasis Rune. Why not replace it by, say, the Harmony Rune as I corrected it above? Thus Kulbrast Offirson: Air/ Harmony/ Mastery (To follow also the classical template of Element Rune/ Power Rune/ Other Rune [Power, Condition, Form, whatever... ])

Thanks Christopher. It might help me to highlight the decisions you made on the fixes but this seems to be a good summary.

You're welcome, Ian, I'm glad you like it!?! All the fixes I did are in square brackets. That includes things added, omitted, ratings corrected, keywords bolded, etc...

  6. HQ:G - TCS: EXAMPLES OF CHARACTERS p. 17-20 & p. 136-141

Unfortunately - in the grand tradition of HW:RiG, HQ:RiG, HQ:CR, S:KoH  as well as P:GtA - none (that is zero, zip, nil, nought, nada, zilch!) of TCS' "Examples of Characters" have been built correctly according to the -very simple- HQ:G rules, as has been the case with all sample characters ever done either by Issaries or Moon Design Publications!

All my corrections are in square brackets [...].

    P. 17: "Keywords are in bold for ease of reference." Except for the Runes, none of the keywords have been bolded... so let's do it!

    THE HARD-BITTEN CATTLE RAIDER

    P. 20: "Ben chooses to take an alynx [named Garfin] for one of his abilities as a sidekick. He has read Sartar: Kingdom of Heroes and takes one of its three abilities as the Yinkin Rune at 17. He takes the Alynx keyword for [an] Ability at [13], and gives his companion [the Grumpy personality trait] for [another] Ability at 13[. D]eciding it is a lucky cat [he breaks out the ability Nine-Lives from the Yinkin Rune]. Ben has [14] points to spend. He spends 4 points to raise the alynx’s Yinkin Rune to 1W and make it an initiate of Yinkin. He then spends 7 points on its Alynx ability and [3] on Nine-Lives."

HQ:G p. 50: "Give your companion a name. [...] Companions start with three abilities, one rated at 17 and the others at 13. Any of these abilities may be a keyword. At least one of them should indicate a personality trait [italics added]."

"Ben then [...] purchases [two] other [...] abilities. [...] Learning that Broddi Strong-Kin dislikes cattle raids, but [that] one of the Rivals Kangharl Black-Brow encourages them, Ben decides that he is a sworn man to Kangharl, and a member of the Tormakting bloodline. Ben also decides to take a Flaw, Broddi Disapproves, to represent the struggle he has convincing Broddi to authorize his raids. I think that moving to incremental percentiles was one of the strengths of RQ3. Another was removing limits on variable/stackable magic.

    Hear! Hear!

In RQIII you could have Bladesharp 8 but you had to defeat a spell spirit with on average POW 16 (8D3). Now, either your priest or shaman summoned a random one or he had a bound or known one of lesser POW -say 13- & that made all the difference in the world, didn't it?!?

Thanks for these. But for Maklami, you mean she should have 17 in either Earth or Life, right? Assuming she's spent all 12 points on raising Harmony to 13W (the text doesn't say, unless I've missed it). I've added these in.

Why does Maklami Friend of Heroes' "Flaw: Haughty" have a rating of "2W"?!? Because her highest ability -her occupation keyword, Healer- is rated at 2W (17 + 5).

Because she has already increased her Heortling cultural keyword by 7 to a rating of 20, she hasn't any point left (5 + 7 = 12) to increase her Harmony Rune which thus stays with its beginning rating of 1W. QED!?!

  10. One way of seeing all of this could be:

    - Following Jajagappa, beginning Humakti heroes get the Sword Fighting ability at 1M, whereas heroes who initiate to Humakt in play get Sword Fighting at their Death Rune rating.

    - As Joerg said, all heroes who want to increase their Death Rune rating need to first make sure that their Sword Fighting ability is already higher.

This would probably bring some amount of the game balance Steve is looking for to what else would appear as a powergamer's wet dream.
