  1. We would like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who has supported the Pirates & Dragons RPG Kickstarter. You've blown us away with your support, and we'll try to repay you with an awesome game. We'll be posting updates over the coming days and months as the project progresses - which it can, due to you all :D

  2. With 4 hours to go until the end of the Kickstarter, we've smashed through the £6000 stretch goal! The "Creatures of the Dragon Isles" bestiary is funded, as well as retro-clone stats for all P&D products. The bestiary is now available as an add-on.

The next stretch goal is "Gazetter #1: Esbaniola and the Southern Tempests", at £7000. In 4 hours? How likely is that?

  3. The next stretch goal, the Tales of Tortuga, has been unlocked! Thanks to everyone who's helped us to get there. It's now available as an-add on.

Our next double stretch goal, Creatures of the Dragon Isles (a full colour bestiary) and retro-clone stats in all P&D products, will be reached at £6000. We've got 48 hours to go, let's see if we can do it!

  4. Cakebread & Walton: Independence Day!

1st October was Independence Day at Cakebread & Walton. For the last few years, our books have been published by Cubicle 7 Entertainment, but from now on we’re going it alone. Our popular and award-winning role-playing games and settings, including Clockwork & Chivalry, Abney Park’s Airship Pirates, Renaissance Deluxe, Clockwork & Cthulhu and Dark Streets, are available as PDFs, and over the coming weeks, they’ll start to become available as print-on-demand products from DriveThruRPG. This means that some of our products which have been out of print for a while (such as the UK Games Expo Award-winning steampunk RPG, Abney Park’s Airship Pirates core rulebook) will be available again, and many of our volumes will be available in hardback for the first time.

We’ve reached an agreement with Captain Robert Brown of Abney Park to carry on producing the Airship Pirates line of games, and Cubicle 7 Entertainment have generously given us permission to continue using their Heresy Rules Engine in the game, so that it remains compatible with the Victoriana RPG. Underneath the Lamplight, the Neovictorian sourcebook for Airship Pirates, will be available in full colour for the first time, and there are further supplements in the pipeline.

Our next major release will be the Pirates & Dragons RPG core rulebook – visit a world of swashbuckling, magic and monsters using a fast-paced cinematic version of our Renaissance D100 rules. The Kickstarter for this game still has a few days to run and has more than doubled its target; there are some cool stretch goals almost in reach, and if you sign up for the Kickstarter, you’ll get free postage in the UK and US, so if you haven’t backed it yet, now’s the time! We have a whole range of products planned for this richly detailed fantasy world, so keep an eye out.

Other projects in the pipeline include a world-spanning campaign for Dark Streets, our grim 18th century Cthulhu Mythos setting, more short Renaissance adventures in our Flintlock & Steel series and possibly the next adventure in the Kingdom & Commonwealth campaign for Clockwork & Chivalry.

We’ve also got a comic Victorian murder mystery novel, The Morecambe Medium, featuring the investigating team of Augustus Mulberry and Doctor Touchstone, about to hit the virtual bookshelves!

Cakebread & Walton consists of game designers Peter Cakebread and Ken Walton, who have the privilege of working with a group of talented artists and writers from across the world. We’re a tiny independent company based in Lancaster, England and in cyberspace.

All our games will be available in the future from DriveThruRPG.com, and its sister site RPGNow.com.

  5. Huzzah, the next stretch goal has been unlocked! The HMS Terror, an Albionic pirate-hunting ship, is now available - deck plans for the ship will appear in the core rulebook, and anyone pledging £15 or more will automatically be entitled to receive a PDF of the combat scale deck plans of the Terror, designed by Dramascape.

We're now very near (£250) the next stretch goal, Tales of Tortuga, with just a few days to go!!!

  6. @doomedpc Have you ever considered doing an early Old West game, say 1830s-1850s?

Yes, but we've only ever discussed it briefly. At the time we figured that there would be better people to do it than us and that there's already a fair few games out there (although most, from memory and judging by my own collection, set a little later). On the other hand, I am very interested in the era and the amount of research I've already done would give us a bit of a head start - I wargame the Old West, and I'm the kind of saddo that always reads a mountain of books before I invest in a new mini collection.

  7. I'm a little late to the party, having stumbled upon Dark Streets this month while I was looking through Cubicle 7's online store. I grabbed the pdf off of DTRPG, and have been really impressed with DS' historical setting, and the tweaks to the Renaissance system. Impressed enough to track down a print copy - that took some work.

Anyway, nice work, Cakebread & Walton. I'm going to have to pay closer attention to your future releases.

    *blush* Many thanks :)

  8. I thoroughly enjoyed it - and my 13 year old daughter (who was peering over my shoulder as I was working) has decided that I have to run some things using it for my Sunday Junior gaming group (I did suggest she could GM and I could have a day off, but she wasn't having it).

  9. There are a couple more updates on the Pirates & Dragons Kickstarter pages. Yesterday we reached our first stretch goal, the introductory adventure The Island of Light and Darknesss. so there's a taster of that, along with the news that we've lowered the print stretch goal for the adventure compilation Tales of Tortuga.
