  1. I noticed there is nothing that seems to include 'divine' magic. Can this sort of magic be handled by 'magic' or 'sorcery'? Would their fx change the mechanics at all?

The main point of the system that I like is the optional allegiance system. Characters can align themselves to deities or organizations, which is then measure by an Allegiance stat. This has given me the idea of creating a way for the various class abilities from DnD to be used in BRP.

While I’m still working out a system to handle this for my campaign, the general idea will be that players will align themselves with one of the deities in my campaign world and the more allegiance they gain with that deity, the more divine abilities they will have access to, this will include such things as the ability to cast divine spells to being able to turn undead.

Of course the PCs will have to decide if they will be a priest or warrior for their god, which will change the way they receive divine powers, but beyond that, I think it’s a very good system to use.

As far as the magic, mutations, psionic, super-powers system is concerned, if handled properly, I think you’ll be able to integrate them all into the same setting. Personally, I won’t be integrating all of them, but I can see how you could do that if that was the style of game you were interested in running.

I was going to hold off on buying the rules until the edited edition came out, but when they put Zero edition on sale on April 1st, I just had to buy it. I’m glad I did because it’s allowed me to go ahead and begin making the necessary rules I’ll need for my next campaign. Also, when the final edition does come out, I’ll basically have 2 rule books that I can use while my players are making characters/playing the game.

Sure the two won’t be exactly alike, but I don’t see them making to many changes between the two versions as they’re editing the book.

Oh and sorcery spells just work, no skill roll required, but they can be resisted.

  2. One thing to do, assuming you can get players to sign up, to help broaden the exposure of BRP is to run games at conventions or gaming stores. A short scenario could generate possible interest with new players. Also, introduce the system to the group you normally play with.

Currently, my group has been using various D20 systems only, but when the current campaign I'm running ends, the next game I run will be a BRP game!

  3. I had voted a while ago that I was going to wait for the final release of BRP, but I went ahead and bought the Zero edition today! Just couldn't wait any longer, plus, even though things are apt to change between Zero and final, I'll have another set of rules for my players to look at when I'm running, that is, unless I can talk them into purchasing their own copies of the book!>:->

  4. Anybody got any other homebrew conversions they want to post?

    -STS

I'll do just that once I get more work done on my conversion! I will actually be able to do more in about a week or so, used Chaosium's April Fools sale to buy both the Zero Edition and also looking at getting Stormbringer. So I'll soon be reading and working toward converting my world, once again!:D

  5. Allegiance is a system that lets GM's codify the divine / metaphysical conflict(s) in a setting without straight-jacketing players and allows players who want pursue a specific philisophy / code for their characters to do so and, if they choose, reap some reward for it.

    Cheers,

    Nick Middleton

Sounds very intriguing to me and a better way to handle those who receive help from divine beings!

  6. Rules for "Alignment" are really outdated. Who needs guidelines to role-play their character? Not everyone falls neatly into a category, so why should are characters?

So how does Allegiance differ from Alignment?

I agree with "Alignment" being outdated. Personally the only reason I'm using alignment at all is because it's part of DnD 3.5 and that's the current system I'm using. As soon as my current campaign ends and I switch back to BRP, alignment goes away. I'd also like to hear more about the Allegiance system that's been spoken of.

  7. Skunkape,

If you want to use D&D style magic in a BRP game, you should check out the GORE rules if you haven't already. There is a link in the downloads section on this site. The author took the D&D SRD spells and adapted them to BRP.

I'll have to check them out, thanks for the heads up!

  8. My big problem with DnD has been there since the beginning, levels! That's why I like and have always systems like BRP. No levels and you can really make any kind of character you like by making sure you increase the particular skills you need to make that character.

As far as one system being deadlier than another, all of that is controlled by the GM. I can just as easily kill off a PC in DnD as I can in BRP. I just hate the fact that in DnD, you get more hit points as you go up in level! But I do like the magic system from DnD, so I'll be doing a little work once I get a hold of the new BRP and I'm sure most of my players will have no problem playing a BRP game instead of a DnD game when the current campaign ends.

Those that do, just won't play in my game!

  9. Last I had heard about the release of the final version, we're looking at a June release! Isn't that about the same time 4e comes out?

Personally, while I want to see the rules changes, I really don't want to buy the un-edited version, I want to wait for the final one myself!

Course, if they cancel the final release, which by the way, I haven't heard that so don't jump to conclusions, I'll buy the un-edited version because I really want the updated rules!

  10. Just dropping by the thread to say, greetings and well met. Hope to add some quality content from time to time to the community. Trying to patiently wait for the release of the complete(gold) version of the latest rules from Chaosium.
