  1. Interesting that you brought this up, I'm going to start running a BRP sci-fi game on either Roll20 or RPTools, having never used either before, I'm not sure which one will work better, so I'm going to start with Roll20, then decide how much I like it.

I do like the fact that Roll20 has a video chat function, so that gives it a big plus for me. I'll probably be writing up Macros for the it if I continue to use it and will make any of them available to anyone who is interested in having them. Doesn't help you now, but just wanted to give you a heads up where I'm going with it.

  2. I'm going to start running an online game using Roll20. It was suggested by one of the players.

One thing that I think would be an advantage with computer RPGs is an easier way to change the sound of your voice, if you're using voice over net. That way a player or GM could use a 'game' voice for what their character(s) was(were) saying!

  3. If you're not interest in big space battles, which yes, space opera's have lots of, you could just not deal with space craft, treat them as a method of getting from one place to another without worrying about activities between the ships.

Also you could look at the original Traveller rules, Rules Wiki. They had a very comprehensive ship building system. There is a recent versions of the rules out there, but I haven't seen the ship building part so I'm not sure it's quality.

Or you could go with something along the lines of what Rosen posted.

  4. For that cost, you could almost buy three Games Workshop miniatures. O:)

That's so funny, and so true!;D

I know cuz I own a Necron army and have started making a Black Templars army!

Though to be honest, I bought my most of my Necron army used and was lucky enough that the guy who had it before me painted them the same base color that I was using for mine.

  5. Anyone ever actually use a d100? I mean like one of those Zocchihedron's you see at stores every so often.

Yeah, I actually have one, but I had to glue it together because the clear outside came apart one time. I hardly ever use it though, two d10 just work much better!

I'm not so worried about d100 vs d20, I more prefer a skill based game system over a level based one. How you resolve tasks doesn't matter as much to me.

  6. That could be quite a few spam posts with that many logins. Either someone has lots of idle time on their hands or it's a bot. Either way, I really dislike spammers!X(

  7. That might not be the case. Prices for goods do not always stay the same relative to each other. For instance back in the 70s when the minimum wage was around $5.15, fifty cent beers were common.

True, but I'm trying to set up an easy to recognize (from a player point of view) monetary system that will help with them identifying with the game world. By using real world prices, the don't have to say, hey John, is that a good price for a meal, and the reverse is true, I don't have to say, hey, the amount he wants to hire you for is really good.

  8. I used to spend a lot of time researching pricing using either current games or supplements but recently for some of my fantasy games I've been using real world prices, but converting them to the monetary system I use. Where a silver coin, the Guild, is worth $1.00 U.S. This gives my players an easy reference and gives me an easy wage standard.

Since everyone knows that minimum wage is roughly $7.50 / hour and the cost of a beer is roughly $2.50 to $3.00, when I tell them that their patron wants to hire them to do a job that will take about 1 day's time and he's paying them 100 silver each, they know that's better than a common laborer should get.

If they go in a bar and the bar tender wants 1 silver for an ale, they know either it's pretty bad beer or it's watered down.

So I'm not really concerned with historical accuracy personally, I'm looking to make running my game fairly easy and fun for the players.

Oh and I'm not finding fault with those GMs who want that accuracy! If that's how you roll, great, it's just not how I roll or role as the case may be!;D

  9. I use real pricing lists too as most of my players don't like how abstract the wealth level rules are.

Plus, with a price list, it allows me to figure out how much of a monetary reward I want to give my players as far as session goals are concerned.

  10. Mutations in the real world are almost always some sort of defect. If i were running a Gamma World style campaign id make Mutant characters choose at least one if not two Defects.

That's very true for the real world, and would be fine for your game, but in the original Gamma World you could have mutants with no defects, and remember it's a game and not the real world and in your game, that's how you could do it.

What I would do is try and make BRP versions of the mutations from one of the versions of Gamma World and take the random chart for mutant characters to roll on from the same version, that way you get BRP system with the flavor of the TSR Gamma World.

  11. I agree, very good system, great community of people who contribute ideas and their own experiences with the system to make a whole support group for the system. Thanks for everyone's input!

  12. I'm planning on making a GM screen that on the front has pockets that I can slip papers into and create game specific fronts to then slip in so my players know what kind of game we're playing. Once I get it built, I'll take some pictures. Currently I'm trying to determine the layout of my side which will determine the layout of the other side.

  13. I just bought the PDF, thanks for making it $1.00! Let's me check it out and decide if I want to buy the dead tree version! By the way, I prefer dead tree versions over PDFs for reading, but I also like PDFs to help me with writing game/campaign documents!

  14. Well, basically the Legend core book is almost the same as the RuneQuest II corebook and is the same price.<snip>

    Ah, thanks for the clarification!

  15. @tmilktoast - Classic Fantasy is a great resource for fantasy campaigns, except that I don't like the class portion of it. I understand the point behind it, but prefer a classless game, which is easy to do with BRP. But I think the direction I'm going to take the damage/healing will work or at least in theory!

@Mankcam - Hit Locations would work great for a Romeroisk modern Zombie game!;)
