  1. Yes. Setting up the Critical Role game was nearly two years in the making, and everyone involved hopes it will not be a one-off. Right here on BRP Central!
  2. In this blog post, long-time Glorantha fan Andrew Logan Montgomery explains why "In the thirty-six years I have been writing scenarios and running game sessions, Glorantha is the setting I return to most." He recounts (in no particular order) the core principles he comes back to time and time again to try and make Glorantha "Glorantha" for his players, regardless of game system used. https://andrewloganmontgomery.blogspot.com/2019/08/running-glorantha-some-thoughts.html TLDR: Glorantha is —A WORLD OF MYTH, NOT SCIENCE "It is not a fantasy setting that is world just like ours with a bit of magic added... the sun rises and sets because he was born, ascended to the throne of heaven, and then was killed and sent to the underworld." In Glorantha —EVERY ACT IS A MAGICAL AND MYTHICAL ACT "Nearly all acts of change and creation are magical because they call upon the myths underlying existence." In Glorantha —HISTORY REPEATS "History repeats for the same reason the seasons do; it all happened in the Gods Age." In Glorantha there is —GRITTY REALISM, AND THAT MEANS UNCOMFORTABLE SHADES OF GRAY "Gloranthan PCs come from cultures, they belong to communities, they have families, careers, and even cults."

  7. It was a DnD party, but we talked some Call of Cthulhu too... "Emerging seemingly unscathed from the horrors of 'The Shadow of the Crystal Palace', Taliesin Jaffe @executivegoth and Erika Ishi @erikaishii talked more Mythos madness with Chaosium's Neil and MOB at Critical Role's DnD Beyond Party on Saturday night at Gen Con."

  12. Wow, more than 207,000 views in a little over 24 hours! : there's phenomenal interest in Critical Role's 'The Shadow of the Crystal Palace' Call of Cthulhu adventure on YouTube: https://youtu.be/0uhqZdJ8swQ
  13. Helping unpack one of our pallets for Gen Con, Mike has found there are mysterious forces which don't want people reading The Grand Grimoire of Cthulhu Mythos Magic. As our booth manager Ellie says of the incident, "We are keeping this mangled corpse at the booth as this year's ritual sacrifice. Thankfully I don't have to stab any of the staff now. Always the hardest part of running a booth."
  14. Watch Critical Role play Call of Cthulhu here:
  15. Strange things are afoot in London’s Crystal Palace, and it’s up to these unwitting heroes to rise against it with all their sanity and might! : Watch Critical Role play Call of Cthulhu right now, on Twitch TV: https://www.twitch.tv/criticalrole
  16. About as believable as an escaped slave from the West Indies ending up in Iceland. Which happened.
  17. All set for a gaslight-era mystery of malevolent proportions: our friends Critical Role are playing 'Shadow of the Crystal Palace', their special Call of Cthulhu one-shot, tomorrow night at 7pm PST
  18. Such an NPC could be inspired by: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-06-27/first-black-settler-in-iceland-hans-jonathan-slave-saga/11228536
  19. https://www.chaosium.com/blogstatement-about-metaarcades-cthulhu-chronicles We regret to announce that the Cthulhu Chronicles mobile interactive fiction game is no longer available. Unfortunately Metaarcade, the company that produced it, is no longer in business.
  20. We'll be selling special preview copies of this book at Gen Con at our booth (#829). Jeff Richard says "The Red Book of Magic has every Rune and spirit magic in the core rules, the Cults Book, Trollpak, and many more. It is a foundational document for me, as it gives me pretty much every Rune and spirit magic spell of any cult of any size in Genertela." Quantity is limited!
  21. Promo for the forthcoming Critical Role Call of Cthulhu one-shot:
  22. In the latest survey, CALL OF CTHULHU is the third most popular game played on virtual tabletop Roll 20 (after DnD & Pathfinder): https://www.enworld.org/forum/content.php?6508-Orr-Group-s-Roll20-Stats-Q2-2019-Use-New-Method-Cthulhu-Up-D-D-PF-Down Interesting factoid: 'One interesting facet of the Call of Cthulhu rise is that the average game length is about a quarter of that of other systems -- "We found that they have an average playtime of 11.9 hours, compared to 40 hour average game times for other systems on these charts."'
  23. That's why games in fringe places like Prax or Pavis or Sun County work well as stepping off points: the players (and GM) don't need know a lot about the world... Thought to be a big reason of why plain vanilla "Human Fighter" is the most popular character class by far on DnD Beyond.
  24. Call of Cthulhu comes to MOAB - the Mother Of All Battles convention in October! MOAB is Sydney’s premier wargaming convention, run annually on the October long weekend since 1990. Every player goes into a lottery draw for a Call of Cthulhu Starter Set (if there are more than 20 players then a copy of Terror Australis will be added). MOAB takes place at the Sylvania Heights Community and Youth Club in Sylvania, Sydney NSW Australia. Many thanks to the Keepers from the Cult of Chaos who will be assisting with the staging of this event, which brings Call of Cthulhu to a new "Cthulhu curious" audience (wargamers!) https://www.chaosium.com/blogcall-of-cthulhu-at-the-mother-of-all-battles-convention-7-october-sydney-australia
