  1. Our friends and licensees Dayspring Games are currently crowdfunding MASKS OF NYARLATHOTEP in Korean. In the first 72 hours they've raised 103million Won (roughly USD$90,000). Their record-breaking Call of Cthulhu crowdfunding project in 2016 only reached that point after 26 days. There's still 40 days to go, so this campaign has the possibility of making a new crowdfunding record in Korea! https://www.tumblbug.com/nyarla
  2. RPGNet really likes the GM Screen Pack: "Congratulations: you have reached the pinnacle of what a gamemaster pack should include, screen included… If you play Call of Cthulhu and you are already using the Call of Cthulhu Keeper Screen Pack, you know what kind of screen supplements Chaosium is capable of producing. Now take that concept to eleven."—Antonios S. review, RPGNet.https://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/18/18055.phtml And "For those complaining that there were no creatures or monsters in the main rulebook, behold: 208 pages of PC and NPC goodness": "The RUNEQUEST GLORANTHA BESTIARY is not just a monstrous compendium, but a well-written tome about the things that live and breathe in Genertela. It does not restrict itself to the monsters-as-NPCs concept and provides something that few books of this type do: a vibe, a feeling about how the world of Glorantha functions."—Antonios S. review, RPGNet.https://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/18/18052.phtml
  3. As announced at their annual "What's Next" event in Paris last week, Focus Home Interactive has signed an exclusive agreement for video game adaptations of Chaosium's Call of Cthulhu franchise for the next ten years. Plus, CALL OF CTHULHU, the initial title in the series, will be coming out on Nintendo Switch (currently available for PS4, X-Box One, and PC). https://forums.focus-home.com/topic/37406/focus-home-interactive-reveals-12-new-partnerships-at-what-s-next-2019 Not available on Mac.
  4. Allan and Britt will also be bringing their Call of Cthulhu cosplay talents to Gen Con this year!
  5. Are we saving the world, or ending it? Call of Cthulhu cosplay at Supanova Melbourne last weekend: MOB from Chaosium, with Allan and Brit, two of the stars of the Chaosium Twitch channel. And the Disk of R'lyeh they're creating in the Type 40 workshop... https://www.twitch.tv/chaosiuminc
  6. As long-time fans of RuneQuest and the newly Glorantha-curious receive their RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha Slipcase Sets in the mail some have shared the excitement of opening their package in unboxing videos. We've gathered together just a sample of them: https://www.chaosium.com/blogunnatural-selections-21-unboxings-of-the-new-rq-slipcase
  7. The Penny Arcade team are led by Chaosium's own Mike Mason through crypts, graveyards, and catacombs to solve a most occult caper - this is the YouTube version of the Twitch Call of Cthulhu show earlier this week.
  8. A: They are defense cards of last resort and are usually deployed the final rounds of the game, when all your other options are exhausted. They enable you to hang on and stay in the round, if you are trying to go for the big points (10 in the last round, if you are the final player to leave the library). Yes - like in the Call of Cthulhu RPG, sometimes you get down to desperate measures!
  9. Would love to hear more: start a new thread in this forum and let's discuss!
  10. A: They stay on the table until chosen. If they are still unchosen at the end of a round (when no one is left in the library), they are discarded and reshuffled with the rest of the library cards for the new round.
  11. Question asked on the Kickstarter page: Q: So imagine you play premonition and reveal 3 cards from the deck. Next player wants to play premonition too. What happens ? Is it legit ? If yes, does he reveal 3 more cards ? If no, why ? A: Yes, keep on revealing three more cards if the next player uses their premonition card. All that happens is there are more cards available face-up for players to choose from.
  12. We're pleased to announce Chaosium and Focus Home Interactive are partnering together to create a series of computer games based on the Call of Cthulhu RPG. We'll have more details about this long-term partnership soon...
  13. On Twitch right now: Call of Cthulhu on Penny Arcade. With Mike Mason:https://www.twitch.tv/pennyarcade
  14. The RQG core rules is marked with the MAN rune. The Bestiary is marked with BEAST. And the Gamemaster Screen Pack? It is emblazoned with the ILLUSION rune. The Puppeteer Troupe claims this was the First Rune, for without Illusion, there would none of us to think we ever were... And it's the rune for the limitless possibilities of imagination RQG offers too.
  15. So also: https://www.chaosium.com/fan-use-and-licensing-q-a Q: I want to see the Milton Bradley HeroQuest board game back in print - what is happening with that? A: We know there are a LOT of fans of the Milton Bradley HeroQuest board game that is now owned by Hasbro. We have absolutely nothing against that boardgame. We would be pleased to see it back in print, and under the right circumstances we would be very happy to license our HeroQuest trademark to the company that produces it. If you are keen to be that company, please be aware that there is one issue beyond our control: while we (Moon Design Publications) own the Trademark for the name "HeroQuest", Hasbro owns the copyright for the game "HeroQuest". We do not own the copyright to the original boardgame, its rulebook, its miniatures, the board, etc: Hasbro does, and (as far as we know) Hasbro has shown no interest in reprinting it, or allowing another company to do so. We are not going to do anything in terms of licensing our Trademark for the name "HeroQuest" unless Hasbro gives their permission to use their HeroQuest related copyrighted material. Thus far, Hasbro has NOT given anyone permission to reprint their game. By permission, we mean in writing, via a contract. Licensing intellectual property isn't done via a phone call or some quick chat. It is done via legally binding contracts if it is to be done professionally and according to the law. As soon as any game company has a license from Hasbro to use their HeroQuest game related intellectual property we will be very happy to enter discussions with that company about licensing our Trademark for the name "HeroQuest".
  16. Our friends the master prop-makers at TYPE 40 have finished the mold for their amazing RQG sword, and showed it off at SupaNova Melbourne last weekend. Next is casting it in bronze. We can't wait! The sword is an exact replica of that wielded by warrior Vasana, as depicted by Andrey Fetisov on the front cover of the RuneQuest Quickstart. 20. Caveat: this was posted on the same day as our "The Sable Tribe actually rides giant weasels" post, but it's still pretty cool #gloranthafuel... https://hyperallergic.com/492730/archaeologists-discover-worlds-oldest-break-up-letter-at-neo-babylonian-site
  21. They are sent out by email just prior to the products being made available for sale on the website. (If we sent them any earlier, we'd just have people trying to use them and not finding the products available, which would lead to poor Dustin being inundated with questions.)
  22. John did tell his Kickstarter backers some exciting news was coming on April 1st: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/johnwickpresents/7th-sea-second-edition/posts/2448670 Which caused such consternation he had to amend: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/johnwickpresents/7th-sea-second-edition/posts/2452101 Anyway, as you probably saw, we were busy on April 1 with rewriting RuneQuest 😊
  23. Chaosium, publishers of the award-winning tabletop roleplaying games Call of Cthulhu, RuneQuest, and King Arthur Pendragon, has acquired John Wick’s acclaimed 7th Sea RPG , it was announced today. 7th Sea is John’s Wick’s swashbuckling and sorcery roleplaying game set set in the fictional world of Théah. The second edition of 7th Sea was crowdfunded by John Wick’s own company, John Wick Presents in 2016, setting a then-record on Kickstarter for a tabletop RPG, raising over $1.3 million dollars. John Wick himself will be joining Chaosium as creative director for 7th Sea. He will continue to have creative oversight of his game, and will remain a principal author of 7th Sea material going forward. Beyond that, John Wick will also write for other Chaosium game lines, for which he has great affection. “John is an extraordinarily talented designer and highly regarded figure in the world of tabletop rpgs. We are delighted to have him join our team”, said Chaosium President Rick Meints. Following the death of Chaosium founder Greg Stafford in November last year, John’s memorial piece about Greg's titanic influence on the landscape of tabletop games was shared and quoted widely (The Gray Crane). John Wick said,"My first RPG was a Chaosium game. My second RPG was a Chaosium game. My third RPG was a Chaosium game. Saying 'I'm excited to be joining the Chaosium team' just doesn't do it. I've respected and admired the company for over thirty years. I'm joining the same company who started me on this journey and I couldn't be prouder." Upon acquiring this new game line, Chaosium’s paramount objective for 7th Sea is the fulfilment of the outstanding rewards from the 7th Sea Second Edition and 7th Sea Khitai Kickstarters. Coinciding with this announcement, John Wick has updated all Kickstarter backers with the new arrangements, which will see Chaosium overseeing the remaining fulfilment of the campaigns. Over coming weeks, 7th Sea products and content will begin to be migrated to Chaosium.com and Chaosium’s page at DriveThruRPG. A 7th Sea discussion board will also be set up at BRP Central, Chaosium’s forums. More details here: https://www.chaosium.com/blogjohn-wick-joins-chaosium
