    Some rivers headwaters (eg Missouri in the US) begin at the confluence of lesser streams. This could be represented, as you suggest, as the place where the waters of Heler connect with the waters of the Sea.

    Real world headwaters tend to be fairly arbitrary, fizzling out into tributary streams unless sourced at a spring.  Would Gloranthan rivers have a fixed, defined head such as a holy pool or be anchored in the Earth to give the appearance of a spring? In Glorantha you can summon River Horses to carry you to a rivers headwaters. So where would you be carries to?

  3. I'm envisaging the upper reaches of the Skonthor and most of Trader as being fast flowing upland rivers. The use of magic and the involvement of the hero or spirit cult would give a good story.

    I'm just not sure if that magic should be available as rune or spirit magic. There are good reasons for it being either, and I favour the spirit magic route because it is quite utilitarian.  You can imagine it as a survival magic during the godtime Flood or Darkness eras. But is it too powerful for spirit magic? Should it cost more MPs?

    There is a section in the Red Book on devising Rune spells, but asides from a general duration limit no indication for spirit magic.

  4. I'm messing around with the idea of the more traditional Orlanthi of the Nimistor Valley getting around using log boats (as depicted below). They would be used during Sea, Earth and Fire season for getting about up and down the rivers, such as the Trader and Skonthor. I imagine that most if not all river traffic would cease during Dark and Storm seasons. Down stream is fine, but to get back upstream, especially during high flows I envisage them using magical assistance and have devised the following magic (riffed off of Blood Over Gold):

    Paddle Tirelessly
    2 Points
    Touch, Temporal, Passive
    Allows the target to paddle without rest for a maximum CON/2 hours against a current equal to or less than STR km/hr. The magic ends when the target stops paddling. At the end they are fatigued and must rest for 20-Con hours.

    I imagine the magic being available through a local hero or ancestor spirit cult that had some competitive relationship with the local rivers.

    But the question is, should it be Rune or Spirit magic? It has a long duration, but very specific use and a cooldown penalty.

    As spirit magic it could be used by or cast on individuals.

    As rune magic possibly more a ritual cast on the crew of a boat, thus more community focused.

    Thoughts?

  5. The Unholy Trio are really the saviours of Glorantha. Watching the appearance of Kajabor, they realised the end was coming for this cycle of creation and all would be lost in the Stasis void. Seeing this they corrupted their own powers with Chaos to bring Wakboth into the world. Only Disorder joined with Chaos would be able to defeat the Godkiller. 

    Wakboth and Krajbor meet. Krajbor is defeated and the forces of Chaos weakened. But Wakboth knows this is not enough. He goes looking for the only god he knows can stop him and after much destruction meets him. But the fight is close and knowing he will be needed in the future Wakboth impales himself with a piece of the Spike disappating Disorder and Chaos within Gata herself.

    He waits, beyond worship, to be called when the Cosmos is on the brink of destruction again.

    All Hail The Trinity and the One Saviour!

  6. I notice that Renekots Hope has appeared on the Tarsh map. It no longer appears to be, as described, straddling the road to Satar. Its now tucked away on the edge of the Western Bush Range, but still perilously close to the Battle of Heroes. Where is the location of the battle? On the road to Bagnot or at the city walls?

    Either way, Renekots Hope will struggle to negotiate with raiders, sorry i mean provisioners, from the two armies and the fallout from the battle. Their hard fought neutrality will be tested.

    That pretty much spells it out. The Telmori tribe rebel, Argraths Storm Bull supporters say enough, Argrath is close to them and hates betrayal.  The Telmori are crushed and scattered.

    Just trying to imagine what went on at the Trickster college in Slontos. I imagine that this was something to be experimented with. Pushing the limits of Hallucinate. No wonder it was destroyed...or was it? Are the survivors down there Hallucinating back the sea?

    Edit: changed by Chaos, inhuman tentacled monstrosities trapped beneath the sea, reaching out into the dreams and minds of man. Oh. Different Chaosium product...

  10. Could a trickster inadvertently or deliberately bring a Chaos entity into existence beyond the spell duration? If they were to Hallucinate something monstrous during the Orlanthi Summons of Evil ritual or near a chaotic landmark, e.g. Snakepipe Hollow, could Choas use it as a way into the Middle World?

The Mislari Mountains contain Storm Mountain, described as near Ditali lands, where Orlanth recieved homage from Heler in the God Time. Interestingly the Noranior and Tigronior are described as having superseded the Nimistor, possibly through God Time conflict?? It was at this time that Heler joined Orlanth and helped drive back the Water tribe. The Tigronior doglegs right at the coast and crawls across the land through a fen to get to the sea, almost reluctant to reach the ocean.

    Could these rivers not have invaded from the heavens when Heler joined the Storm tribe to aid Orlanth?

  12. I wonder if, given the level of detail we will be getting, any extra regional flavour for say, Orlanth, will be given? Some ideas for how he is approached in Ralios by the henotheists or the Umathaelians in Pamalt, among others.

    How do the degenerate Mraloti in Ramalia worship Zorak Zoran?

    Lots of scope for widening the cults outside of Dragon Pass

    Given the hints towards Old Rindilli earlier, could the site of this battle be on or underneath the Blue Moon Plateau? Given the secretive nature of the Trolls there, this would explain the lack of general knowledge.

  14. It all seems a bit speculative and non-canonical.  Given that this is THE Holy site of a troll God that humans can interact with. We have the Kitori people and the Torkani tribe in Sartar that have him as patron god. Yet no info on this important site. Is there anything in the pipeline @Jeff?

  15. In the organisation section of the cult writeup in Cult Compendium it mentions:

    The holiest place is Morbode, the site where Argan Argar destroyed Braznofstel, an important chaos demon.

    I can find no further information on this in the Well or wiki. This seems like quite a black hole (pun intended) in the cult history. Is there any info out there?

    There is a lot of tension between this rule and Maximum Game Fun in the Q&A for Enchantment. So much so,  you wonder when it's ever applicable. Is the rule to prevent magic item proliferation?

    I hope you find a way to remind them what happened the last time Krampus was bound. He wasn't very forgiving when released on the shamans death!

  18. Could a user condition be: an individual chosen as worthy by the clan/ tribe/temple wyter. Once the current weilder dies the item, if retrieved, returns to the abode of the wyter and another worthy is selected. This could lead to some role-playing completion of tasks or a contest.

    Also in W&E

    "The RuneQuest Gamemaster Sourcebook contains rules on the creation of further magical items and minor enchantments."

    So there seems to be some more refinement when this volume appears.
