  1. hobby is just dead if I don't join in the mindless habit that is D&D. Has Chaosium waited too long to launch BRP? Are we doomed to WOTC mediocrity for the forseeable future?;-(

Do we have to sink to the level of badmouthing D&D? Why should playing D&D be a mindless habit but playing BRP isn't?

Please lets not have this petty name calling. All the energy wasted on it could be ploughed into something more constructive, like running a game.

  2. Yes, near enough. :)

If you think that German would not be a major problem, you could send me a

PM with your E-Mail address, and I would send you the material (currently 3

PDFs with together ca. 70 pages and 6 maps / sketches) in return.

By the way, if anyone else should be interested, too, just drop me a PM, and

I will send you the material.

It is a good job that my elder brother speaks fluent german. I can give him the task of translating some of your stuff for me.

By the way your english is excellent.

  3. Thank you very much ! :)

The problem with my Pharos IV setting is the language - it is in German. :(

I really intend to translate it one day, but currently I am unfortunately too

busy with other things ... :o

Errrrrrrr... Ich sprechen ein kleine Deusche. Did I get that in any way near understandable?:o

  4. Thank you very much for the feedback ! :)

Here is how I imagined the situation to develop in my setting:

However, the UV radiation level on Pharos IV is still very high, and the colo-

nists have to protect themselves accordingly.

As the colony is not exactly a wealthy one, the colonists probably will just

wait for the natural ozone layer to rebuild itself. It would be an interesting

idea to speed this up with laser satellites or thelike, but currently I do not

see how the colony could afford this.

Nicely imagined background. I hope that you can find the time to post a write up of it into the files section of this site. I'd love to read more about Pharos IV. Space is always the place!;)

  5. Yes of course - but "nearby" in this case means about 50 light years, and

the astronomer I asked was quite convinced that in this case the radiation

would kill of the plankton (and with it almost all life forms except those in

the deep sea trenches with their own food supply from chemosynthesis in-

stead of photosynthesis), but would not really damage the planet itself.

A supernova at a respectable distance from an earthlike world ( light years away)would most likely destroy the ozone layer. UV resistant organisms, genetically engineered, would be a good thing to have or artificial creation of ozone high in the atmosphere by laser induced ionisation (using satellites) would solve this problem.

  6. Hello everyone, I am in the middle of testing some ideas and needed some help. I have included a brief overview of a character race for my Twenty Moons of Toranor Space Opera, but because I am not versed in this forum, I had to include the document as a PDF attachment/download. Please don't let that dissuade you from taking a look. I have tried to generate a complex character using the rules from the BRP manual. It can be difficult and confusing so please forgive the document complexity.

    Thanks for your help.

    Thaddeus

Will you be sharing anymore stuff from your Twenty Moons of Toranor space opera game with us? Or are you planning on writing it all up as a supplement for DBRP so that Chaosium can publish it?

If it were a published supplement, judging from the quality of the Corva article, I would buy it.

  7. Oh. Btw, do the people at Chaosium read this forum much? I hope I'm not being too forward?:innocent:

Dredj, you could always try e mailing Chaosium. I read a post on yogsothoth.com that said that it was none other than Frank Shewmake, the author of Worlds Beyond that told Chaosium about a box of unsold product he had. So the author might be contactable through Chaosium.

  8. Stats? I'd take the GURPS stats and turn them into the BRP equivalents. After I see how the new BRP book handles things, and what options I'd use for my game.

PM me about the SpaceGamer article, it's only eight pages, so I could run some scans I guess...

How would you turn the stats in the GURPS supplement into BRP stats? Do you have any conversion rules?

I've tried to find the Space Gamer issue on Amazon but no luck;-(, so I'd love to read the article on Tschai again, after twenty years of remembering it wistfully.:ohwell:

  9. I've got the GURPS worldbook, Jack Vance's Planet of Adventure. Easily adapted to BRP, and it rounds out the books fairly well. I'd have loved more art of the various aliens and human cultures, along with more vehicles, but I think you're always left wanting when it comes to things like that.

I have it too, but I'd like to see some BRP statage for the various races. I'd consider putting them in my Worlds Beyond game then.

As for artwork, I've been trying to track down the Denis Loubet art of the races from an article on Tschai in The Space Gamer#40. Anyone got it?:focus:

So are you up for writing some BRP stats for the(Blue, Green and Old) Chasch, Pnume, Wanek and Dirdir?>:->

  10. Dr'ssa! Dr'ssa! Dr'ssa! You forgot the Wankh race. Go read the saga again from the beginning :D

I think Burrough's Barsoom is public domain now, and I am sure Dario has some GURPS adaptation for it ready (easily BRPable). But Planet Tschai is much more fascinating. Just shout "Onmale!" and go berserk :thumb:

I wasn't going to mention the Wankh:o. Vance has changed them to the Wanek, to avoid offence.

As for shouting "onmale!" before going berserk, I'm a genteel Yao and would rather go awaile!;)

  11. It may be noted that the CoC writeups for Mythos deities are wrtten with human-level opponents in mind; you may have to tweak them to make sense when fighting similarly-powered entities.

Eg., the damage from Hastur's tentacles is listed simply as "death". Reasonable when fighting a human investigator, not so much when fighting other GOOs or giant mecha.

So the +13D6 damage bonus mentioned for Hastur doesn't factor into things?

  12. I am happy to stick all the docs in a subfolder off my Cthulhu Rising website as soon as it is in a legible format. I'll post a link when it is.

    :)

I was wondering when modern space opera would meet BRP. Hopefully it will be a match made in heaven...or should that be space?:D

  13. I use four different "damage classes"

A weapons class can only affect one class above...

Thus LD can harm DC, DC can harm VDC, but not MDC, VDC can damage MDC, but not UDC and MDC can harm UDC...but I rarely bother even annotating it.

    -STS

Thanks for posting these damage classes. It has got me thinking, which is no mean feat!

  14. I have a copy of edition zero of the BRP rules, and am happy to find that most of the info about sci-fi type games in there will allow me to run a campaign set in the Revelation Space universe of Alastair Reynolds. I plan to run a campaign set pre-diaspora, around the time of Reynolds' early short stories - Great Wall of Mars, A Spy In Europa etc.

I have got character generation for factions such as Conjoiners, Demarchists, Coalition for Neural Purity, Gilgamesh-Isis etc done. Just need to get some playtesting done...

    Now this I've gotta see!:thumb:

  15. Me, it would be: Petal Throne, World of the Dying Sun, A Song of Fire and Ice, tribe8, Jorune, Chill, Seventh Sea and Glorantha... ;) ;)

I'd like to see a BRP version of Jack Vance's Planet of Adventure. I like the Chasch, Dirdir and Pnume races and the planetary romance genre would be a good way of getting fantasy loving players into slightly more science fictional setting without too much stress.

  16. So, yeah...CT into BRP...I'd like that ALOT. My own forays into big Mecha and BRP usually scare people when they roll out with hundreds of HP and weapons that do thousands of points of damage...

A more...sane...approach would be nice to see. Apparently borrowing from Palladium, adding physics and cooking with BRP gives me 120mm cannons that do 300 damage with HE warheads, and that just doesn't *seem* right, ya know??

So, when it comes out, I'd be more than happy to see it.

    -STS

Using some form of megadamage rules might be the way to go with BRP. For example each point of damage a mecha does is multiplied by ten if it hits a person.

  17. I'm confused...

I am looking to start a Traveller-like game in the new year and I'm trying to decide which system to use - BRP or the Mongoose Traveller. I fear the new version of Traveller will make my potential players recoil in horror. They are used to CoC rules and other systems are not viewed favourably.

    Cheers

If you want to use BRP there are some conversion notes for Traveller. You also may want to check my post in the "BRP for future") thread where I put some links to useful sets of BRP rules.:)

  18. It's supposed to give stats for making robots...

There is no supposed. There are rules for making robots in Worlds Beyond, but not as PCs. Robots are too tough!

Futureworld has some good rules for PC robots. Come to think of it Futureworld has some very good rules on weapons/ forcefields etc, and its free! I highly recommend Cthulhu Rising as it has almost everything a BRP space game could need, and its free.

  19. But to handle world generation and other data I am supplementing it with GURPS Space 4th edition, which provides a nice set of rules that work cross-system for just such details.

The world generation in GURPS Space is more complicated than the one in Worlds Beyond. It would be nice if someone could find the author (Frank Shewmake) and ask him if we could put the world generation section of the game into the files section of this site.
