One reference said IIRC that they thought the 2 closest planets are tidelocked.

I don't know that I have confidence in ANY of our predictive models' abilities in such an odd environment; even a thick atmosphere, across the epochs, might not suffice... or, the temperature-differentials might be enough that even a thin atmosphere is driven to near-constant winds (hot, high winds from the brightside, cooling and dropping and driving low, cold winds from the dark-side, in a perpetual cycle).  Given that we CAN make a reasonable case for many scenarios, and CANNOT prove any of them as "true" (or false)... that frees us to use whatever suits our need!  :D

Even if the darkside is too cold & the lightside too hot, the temperate band could well be much larger than we think -- the very-close sun will cover enough of the sky to produce a rather-large edge-zone.  Add in some mountains/etc casting long shadows (and recall that all those shadows are permanent!) and much more of the surface may be usable than we might at first expect...

I forgot. Non rotating planets are going to have some trouble generating a magnetic field. Over a long time even a small star will generate a solar wind that could do some damage to the atmosphere of a tidally locked world, and without a magnetic field this is the most probable outcome. :(

  2. With the star being so low in mass some of those worlds would be tidally locked, with one side facing the star. If you have a nice thick atmosphere circulating on some of these tidally locked planets you can keep some semblance of warmth even on the dark side.

To my knowledge, that GM Screen was never actually published. If someone can confirm that it actually exists, that would be interesting!

And if someone could actually find me one in the UK, that I could buy, that would be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! ;)

Is it really the same Chaosium though? One would presume that with the departure of Mr. Krank (et al.) and the "new-old" management basically being Moon Design, with the name Chaosium re-purposed, that whatever animosity existed between Micheal Moorcock and the company isn't really an issue?

Then again, maybe I'm completely wrong.

Sure, it isn't the same Chaosium but you try telling that to MM. Plus I read somewhere that MM sold the rights to some film makers (was it the Wachowski brothers?) that would probably considerably increase the amount Chaosium would have to pay to get a licence to publish YK material. To my mind the most probable route to produce a YK related RPG (in english) would be to do it for Mythras, but Loz Whitaker has already said he isn't into doing that, plus the cost of the licence, et cetera, et cetera, et ceteraaaaaa........

  5. There is a character traits system in the latest Cthulhu by Gaslight CoC supplement. Some of the traits are advantageous and some are not. You can have such afflictions as Scarred which detracts from communications skills, or Social Stigma, or even Shady Past/Scandal. and if that isn't enough you can be Paunchy or Palsied or even Phobic/Manic. Each trait has rules effects. :)

  6. I just think that it is total bollocks that Chaosium would revamp, or even go for the Stormbringer franchise again. They had a spat with the author a long while ago and that showed the antipathy between Moorcock and Chaosium. The best company in a position to have a shot at an EC set of supplements to my mind would be the Mythras crew, as Loz Whitaker is both a fan and has written such stuff before. However buying the rights to such a setting might be expensive if Moorcock sold the rights to some film producer or other.

I'm not as into comic-books as some; but I've got to think that there's another forum with a better focus on your topic... Anything comic-centered ...  DC-focussed ...  Older out-of-print titles ...  Older out-of-print DC titles...  ;-)

I don't in ANY way mean this as a "go away" message -- it just occurred to me that it might be taken that way -- just my best guess about how you might best find the info you seek.

I would have thought the same way you do g33k. But I know that the folks on these fora come from an eclectic and diversely aged group. So I thought I might give it a try. As it happens groovyclam answered my question. Kudos to groovyclam for that. :D

  8. Way back half a trillion megaseconds ago, in the 1980s, I used to collect a DC comic with a character in it possibly called Bedlam, or Mayhem. This character was a young lad that had been experimented on to host a green suit of armour that teleported onto him whenever he was in a state of anger. There were villains against this hero in the form of powersuited samurai types. This comic was a limited series and not directly set in the DC universe. Can anyone please tell me what this character was called and where I can find more information on him? I've tried all sorts of search engine inputs to get to the bottom of this mystery, but no luck, and it is now making me seriously consider that I've ended up in a parallel universe where it was never published. :(

  9. I like the setting more than the ones in the other two OQ scenarios. There is a lot going on in the island setting, so that a campaign or three could be drawn from it. I'm even tempted to put Pherae into the Mythras Thennla setting, for a lark, which would add some depth to the outside world.   :)

  10. Whatever happened to Wraith Recon? Did the conversion from MRQII to Legend mess with the licensing for Wraith Recon? I've not seen much for the setting besides the eponymous book and Spellcom. Was there supposed to be a GM screen for that setting, too?

I think I recall someone saying that Cthulhu By Gaslight had some advantage / disadvantage type traits, but don't quote me on that.  Someone else might be able to confirm or deny.

The latest version of Cthulhu by Gaslight does indeed have a set of Character Traits rules that have advantageous and disadvantageous traits. The GM is advised to either ignore any rolled disadvantageous traits or give the players some extra skill points to keep the trait, if the player baulks at having rolled one.

  12. I'm looking for some information on an old board game that I think was produced by Chaosium, or written by one of their staff at that time. It was published in the late 1970s to 80s, and is about warring factions on a flooded planet Earth. I can remember a zeppelin and a sailing ship, as well as a map of the Flooded Earth. I was thinking it would make a good setting for some scenarios. I've tried to use various search engines to find the damned thing, but no luck. Can any of you grognards please help this forgetful old timer with some info, or possibly a link, to this game? :D

  13. What I want to know is WTF does W.O.T.A.N stand for? Obviously its an acronym, but nowhere can I find out what it stands for. I made up my own solution (Worldline Order Tactical Analysis Network) but I would like to know what Bryan Talbot worked out for the acronym, or if indeed he did work anything out?  :)
