AN INITIAL FAQ ABOUT CHAOSIUM CON

Why In Ann Arbor, and not X or Y?

We know the area, it is close to several of our team, and is near a major international airport (DTW) and several major highways. Sure, there are MANY other places we could host this event at, including many overseas locations, but we have to start somewhere.

What about future Cons in other places?

That's certainly possible. This first con is sort of a proof of concept. Based on the success of the event and what we learn from it, we may have similar cons at different times and places, including overseas*.

Why April, 2022?

It's a decent time of year weather-wise in Michigan and not during peak travel season, so hotel rooms are more available and flights aren't as expensive. It also isn't competing with too many other cons.

Will a lot of the Chaosium team be there?

Yes, many of us already have it on our calendars. We are still working on the Guest of Honor list, but it will certainly include a number of people you think of when you think of Chaosium.

What kind of events will the con feature?

The focus will be on all of Chaosium's games, past, present, and future! Lots of games, freeforms, and seminars. It's your chance to meet many of our authors, artists, and editors. Feel free to contact us with event suggestions, especially if you want to help run them.

Will Chaosium be selling products and merch there?

YES. Rick is saving up POW to create a Great Market, as well as a special Chaosium collectables auction hosted by Mason & Meints. More than that? Other vendors? We'll see.

Badge and Hotel Costs?  Transportation?

More on this soon.

How can I find out more?

*What happened to Chaosium Con Down Under?

We intended to hold Chaosium Con Down Under in Sydney, Australia in May 2020 but unfortunately it had to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. That event was going to be our first 'proof of concept' for a Chaosium convention, but we've now shifted that focus to Ann Arbor. Large public events are still not possible in Australia due to restrictions on gatherings and travel, and regretfully we have had to shelve the idea of an Australian Chaosium Con indefinitely.

As we gradually return to normal, it would be great to have a general Conventions page (pinned in place) where people can list:

  • The conventions that Chaosium will attend
  • Those with a heavy Gloranthan/Chaosium flavour, with as much info as organisers are comfortable releasing.
  • Games anyone is organising at more general events.

For example, I'm much more likely to go to Dragonmeet, now I know that there are two RQ games, and a Chaosium stall.

Finding more info on EternalCon / Continuum etc would be great.

GM event submission is now open, ahead of the previously set date in January. If you have acquired a badge to the event, all you need to do is go to this form and submit your event for us to schedule.

Chaosium Con Event Submission Form

In addition to Call of Cthulhu, RuneQuest, Pendragon and 7th Sea, we want everything from the entire history of Chaosium. Run that game of Stormbringer! Or run something new, such as Würm. Who has some decks of Mythos they want to play?

Great news! Chaosium Con has already sold enough tickets to guarantee the event is happening next April. And the hotel is starting to get tight on reservation space. So sooner is better than later for committing to this event.

Here are some events we already have from members of the Chaosium team.

  • A seminar about publishing your own material on DriveThru RPG through our community creator programs.
  • A seminar about mythology and gaming from Jeff Richard, Jason Durall, and David Larkins.
  • A seminar from Mike Mason and Lynne Hardy about writing Call of Cthulhu scenarios.
  • A seminar on forming your own successful gaming group running games around your region from Todd Gardiner, with guests from You Too Can Cthulhu, Lurking Fears, and Novus Ordo Seclorum,
  • VIP game sessions with Jason Durall, Mike Mason, Lynne Hardy, David Larkins, James Lowder, and other Chaosium staff.
  • A room running non-stop games from You Too Can Cthulhu.
  • A block of games from authors of Jonstown Compendium and Repository published scenarios.
  • The launch of a new Organized Play initiative.
  • A brand new 70+ person Freeform/LARP set in Glorantha.
  • An auction of Chaosium rarities.
  • And dozens or hundreds of GM submitted gaming events over the course of the weekend!

Join us in person for the first ever Chaosium convention! Come along for a weekend dripping with cosmic horror, essential runes, swashbuckling adventure, and chivalrous quests!

The inaugural Chaosium Con is happening in Ann Arbor, Michigan, April 8-9, 2022.
Come along for a weekend dripping with cosmic horror, essential runes, swashbuckling adventure,
and chivalrous quests!

Bridgett Jeffries

A Message from Bridgett Jeffries:

Here are a couple of ways that you can get in on the ground level for Chaosium Con and contribute to the chaos… errr we mean, fun!

Volunteer:

Chaosium wouldn’t exist without our fans, and our inaugural convention won’t be successful without volunteers! We could really use your help in operations! Opportunities range from working the registration table, helping in the Great Market, assisting with set up, tear down, and more!

We’re looking for part time help (4-5 hours) throughout the entire convention.

Click the link to volunteer and help us make history!

GMs:

Volunteering to be a Game Master at the inaugural Chaosium Con has its own bragging rights! In addition, you’ll have the opportunity to share your favorite Chaosium games, meet new players, and share your creativity with others! Whether it’s a LARP, board game, or tabletop roleplaying game… we need you to run it!

Click the link to submit your events!

Attend, get involved, and let’s do great things (and be safe) together!

See you at Chaosium Con!

A question. This sounds great. Unfortunately some of us lives in different parts of the world. Will it be possible to at least listen to the seminars online?

There are often fan recordings of seminars at con / con-like events.
Sometimes, the sound is almost decent...

I'd like it if Someone(tm) brought better gear, to make better recordings.

(I, too, (a) think it sounds great, & (b) am unable to attend, due to distance/RL/etc; and thus (c) hope for recordings of seminars/etc.)

So, tonight here in Melbourne those of us of the Australian Chaosium team who couldn't make it to Ann Arbor had our own mini Chaosium banquet. As Chaosium Con gets underway on the other side of the world we drank a toast to its success! #weareallus

And so the inaugural Chaosium Con in Ann Arbor has come to its close. By all accounts the event was a critical success — a wonderful gathering of the Chaosium tribe, from near and far, with old friends and new. Thank you to all who attended, to the GMs who ran games, and everyone who helped make our first convention such a memorable occasion.

We're keen to do Chaosium Con again, and hope to see you next year!
