  1. Might be worth adding a few word in the Runequest page https://www.chaosium.com/runequest-rpg/ Something like. New GMs may want to consider playing their first few adventures as follows: 1. Starter Set 2. GM Pack (Screen) 3. Smoking Ruins
  2. The Atreides were both surprised and overwhelmed. They knew an attack was coming. The big surprise was the scale, which overwhelmed them. Thufir had predicted 1 legion (30,000 troops), but the Barron landed 10. The Barron stated it took 60 years income from Dune to pay the Guild shipping costs at hazard rates. The second was the involvement of the Sardaukar (2 legions). The appendix states that they were each the equivalent of 10 normal troops, but it is unclear if that was at their peak, or the time of the assault. Finally, there was Yueh brining down the shield around the HQ. Suk conditioning was believed to be unbreakable, so he would have had the highest security clearance. That make the assault easier, but with such numbers, it is hard to see then loosing even without this. So up to 30 times the expected force, plus treachery.
  3. As we gradually return to normal, it would be great to have a general Conventions page (pinned in place) where people can list: The conventions that Chaosium will attend Those with a heavy Gloranthan/Chaosium flavour, with as much info as organisers are comfortable releasing. Games anyone is organising at more general events. For example, I'm much more likely to go to Dragonmeet, now I know that there are two RQ games, and a Chaosium stall. Finding more info on EternalCon / Continuum etc would be great.
  4. I only met Greg once, at a Games Day convention in London in 1987. I was supplementing my limited income as a student by selling RPGs to other University gaming groups, and brought over a large pile of books for him to sign. Greg quickly spotted what was going on (asking for one Cults of Prax to be dedicated to Dominic, and two others without names, was probably a give away...), but signed them all anyway, was very good about it, and included full dedications on each one. I still remember his kindness, and mourn his death.
  5. That actually makes archery imbalance problem even worse. A high dex master swordsman must split his attack percentage in order to get multiple attacks, but the high dex archer (master or not) gets multiple attacks for free. And the free attack is harder to parry, -20%. if I have 80% sword and high dex, and strike someone with equal defence, I hit in about 16% of rounds (ignoring spl/crit). But if I fire twice in a round, the first shot hits 16% of the time, the second 32% - so three times better than the swordsman every round. When the skill level reaches 100%, the archer is five times more deadly the swordsman every round (assume5% funble chance).
  6. I fear that 2-3 attacks a round without splitting the attack roll makes missiles too deadly. Sure, a very skilled archer can do it. But: 1. We can reflect that through the attack splitting rules. The 5 round reload just serves to determine when the 2nd/3rd arrows strike. 2. It is unbalanced to make a skilled swordsman (who could also theoretically make several sword strokes in 12 seconds) split his percentage, but not the archer. How does multiple arrows work with the new dodge & combat rules? Can the target parry twice and still close with the archer? Or is the 2nd arrow "unparyable", unless the target is >100% skill.
  7. The idea of Initiates casting Sever Spirits troubles me. While Humakti are rare, most Humakti in a mercenary unit will be at least Initiates. Imagine the start of a battle where the opposition leaders are just taken out with a stacked dispel magic, and then several Sever Spirits. The way of dealing with this is to either: - Make 3 point spells one use for Initiates, or - Made initiates pay 3 points to cast a 2 point spell, and 5 points to cast a 3 point spell.
  8. "Finally, sorcerers get bonuses or penalties for casting magic on Rune appropriate days, weeks, and seasons, and bonuses for casting spells in Rune appropriate places or using Rune appropriate components. Maintaining the ancient Brithini caste restrictions provide bonuses to a sorcerer's Free Int." This links to the setting, and sounds cool. Question to ponder - is maintaining the ancient Brithini Caste restrictions all or nothing? This has implications for whether the reduced form practiced in the West has real magical meaning, or is just a cultural relic of "what great magicians should do". I can see arguments either way. A pure binary system: - Explains why the Brithini are so determined to avoid pollution. And it is easy to document, and avoids awkward cases (how about the men-of-all?). - Gives little incentive for players to maintain restriction. Possibly a 3 tier system. Pure, Lesser and None? Is Lesser an absolute standard, or following the tenets of your "School"?
