degroove
Hello. Quick rule question. My reading of the core book is that if you have temporary sanity, it lasts 1d10 hours and you recover after a good night's sleep (p164). But does that mean that you regain the sanity points you lost temporarily? Or that you lose the points forever, but the effects only last 1d10 hours? I'm a bit confused. SaintMeerkat
Think of "Temporary Insanity" as a state (like "shaken" or "prone") that goes away after those conditions are met. You are "sane" again, but those Sanity points are gone forever.
EldorfDragonsbane
You can regain those sanity points slowly with treatment, as rewards for completing the scenario (ie you defeat the cultists you may earn 1d6 SAN, If you saved the sacrifices then you gain an addition 1d4, if you save the sacrifices but dont stop the cultists then you only earn 1d3, etc...). Take the Horror on the Orient Express as an example, while traveling on the train (with nothing happening such as the Dreamlands scenarios) then your Keeper could rule you have regained 1 or 2 points of SAN from traveling to one town to the next due to the luxurious and relaxing setting. Your Keeper could also do this if you were traveling 1st class from New York to London via a Passenger Ship between adventures, or traveling by rail across the US from Arkham to San Fransisco or even staying a few nights in the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York can be used to recover (at Keepers discretion) a couple points of Sanity. Now any SAN lost from gaining points of Cthulhu Mythos are lost forever, so if you have a Max San of 99 and you have gained 20 points of Cthulhu Mythos then your new max San is 79, and you will never be able to go over that amount. If you further gain another 20 points of Cthulhu Mythos then the new Max San would be 59, etc... 1
