The Ziggurat of Doom (Chronicles of the Keeperwe are far behind in detailed session reports, but your Keeper will try and keep you all up to speed as the PC's race to their final confrontation with Mallebench!

Guilio and Tomas are the first to join Cuthbert at the top of the stairs wheellocks leveled. The horrible night sounds of the shambling dead is drowned out by their fusillade. The heavy lead slugs tear through tattered and rotting flesh. Guilio and Cuthbert’s fire rips away frightening chunks of moldering guts and a limb, but the grotesque creatures stumble forward undeterred. Tomas, the consummate marksman, plants his bullet through the forehead of his target exploding it like an overripe cantaloupe. The Itzal zombie collapsed like a stringless puppet.

“Aim for the head!” yells Tomas even as the trio of C.lU.B.’ers are forced back onto the ziggurat’s wide platform by more and more zombies crawlingd up the stairs out of the ghoulish, flesh-eating fog.

The Italian slides his musket back along the flagstones without a look back. The group of disparate Parliamentarian agents together facing death innumerable times, Guilio knew either the Doctor or Vilhelm would see to reloading the piece. He unslung his telescoping glaive fashioned from the dead strangers, those weird knights the Paladins of the Fall. Snicking it out to its full length he uncapped the skull off a skinless head as the zombie reached out to grapple the large mercenary. Unjay, the Kayo prince, leaped boldly into the fray coming to grips with his ancestors hated foes. His swinging war club crunched down again and again. Tomas snarled as he discharged his pistol full in the face of an attacking corpse. Firearms spent he stepped further back onto the platform giving himself room to loosen his sword.

“Toss your musket!” Doctor Norton hollered out to Tomas all the while priming Guilio’s gun. Cuthbert, feeling the lack of numbers, calls to his frightened African slave and lobs his secondary pistol to him. Hoping a weapon in hand will put steal in the purchased man’s soul Cuthbert stands agog as Molasses points the loaded gun at his master’s heart. Face twisted in rage, mind obviously broken by the surrounding horror Molasses screams in his native tongue and discharges the black powder pistol. Cuthbert loses his breath as searing pain brings him to his knees. It feels as if lightning struck him across the ribs. He sobs for a gulp of air clutching his bleeding side. Vilhelm, witnessing the betrayal, brings his side sword down on the slaves’ still outstretched arm cleaving through the bicep just below the shoulder. Reeling from rage and madness Molasses stumbles forward determined to kill the alchemist before his remaining lifeblood pumps out of his body. Two zombies fall upon the mortally wounded slave dragging him down screaming and rending his gore-soaked body.

Dr. Norton, seeing his compatriots all engaged, lifts the primed musket and sites down his one good eye and fires into a crush of several zombies gaining the platform and streaming past the party’s thin line pushed back from the ziggurat’s steps. The shot rips through the hip of a native who must have turned into a lifeless horror mere days ago. Mobility gone the fully-fleshed zombie topples.

“Grab the end of my rope!” Vilhelm shouts to the doctor. Realizing the witch-hunter's scheme he drops the discharged musket, grabs hold of the rope and rushes with Vilhelm and together they clothesline the other two creatures off the edge of the Mayan shrine.

And then it is over. The pressing horde lay disemboweled or decapitated at Tomas, Unjay and Guillio’s feet. Though more creatures can heard milling about the ziggurat under the cover of the glooming green fog the chanting from the surrounding jungle changes. The shuffling horrors, however many remain, begin to return into the impenetrable jungle. When their movements can no longer be heard the throaty chants recede into the distance leaving only the rolling fog and star-filled night sky.

Dr. Norton moves to see to the injured alchemist and administers first-aid. The bullet only grazed his side, but the wound was still nasty. Without proper attention Norton knew Mr. Sharp would succumb to infection. He had seen such a turn too many times in NMA field hospitals to leave him no room for doubt.

Unjay and Tomas finished off any zombies still animate because their heads had not been damaged. Vilhelm coiled up his rope quiet surprised he and the rest of the group were still alive. “I’ll keep first watch,” he announces. “Father Goodchild. Please inform our royal friend here I wouldn’t mind the company. The rest of you find what rest you can and let us trust till morning god keeps us.”

Not to put too fine of a point on it, buuut the slow down in session reports is all due to the group agreeing to live stream our game sessions. There hasn't been a need to weave the live play experience into words cause we all get to look back any time at what really transpired. I must say I do prefer the narration of the good Dr. Norton to the live stream, buuut it is also very rewarding to see as a passive observer how the sausage is made.

So the question stands; shall the tale be told to conclusion or should the videos stand for themselves?

Bendal Dolum

Unjay obviously did not sleep the night. Vilhelm was sure of it. The Hexenjager came to with a start like a tropical dawn, bright and abrupt. Unjay was looked across the glade absorbing the morning jungle like a benediction. The bloody ruin of the night’s combat was to be seen about them on the flagstones. At least thirteen bodies in various states of decay lay where there heads had finally been dashed. The open ground between the zigurate and jungle was heavily trampled. Norton, Cuthbert and Father Goodchild crawled out from the inner chamber to also greet the dawn.

“We have our heading gentlemen.” Dr. Norton girded his loins. “Pack what you need, we move out immediately.”

The stern Mayan Prince was having words with Father Goodchild. Seems his wounded man would not be coming further. The other two braves which followed their prince into the jungle were to take their injured brother back. Unjay then shed his tribal necklace and flung it at the Jesuit Priest’s feet. He dared then and there that the Mayan gods were stronger than anything the thin priests piety could bring and was willing to go to the gates of hell to prove it. If this group of mercenaries was bent on banging down those gates he was going to lead the way.

The rain forest was thick and unforgiving for eight solid hours and then the party arrived at the lake of the dead. Stark cliff walls surrounded the water casting the crevasse in shadow while out at center the last stabs of light caught the pinnacles of late Bendal Dolum. For a thousand years it lay moldering beneath the spring fed waters. The doctor ordered a raft to be built. He was determined to make the lake-drowned city before night shuttered in.

The temperature dropped markedly as the party clambered aboard the hastily made raft and poled out towards the submerged city. Then the sky cleared. It was hot and the sky was ablaze with birds. The city lay scintillating full an adorned before them.

"Time and distance has been distorted.Unjay says this is a power of the Itzal." Father Goodchild extols while the C.lU.B.'ers row.

It is sickening, the wrench of tentacles grasping the sides of the homemade raft, that flings the brave passengers into the water. Only after several have gained the shore that a proper accounting can be had.

I may try to finish off the Doctors journals to the point of the videos I've just been on the lazy side of my emotional swingometer. I will try drinking some energy drinks and looking at whatever cool new shiny products are coming out R.P.G wise to get the blood pumping......................Oh, new Fallout R.P.G

The Doctors Journal

The small raft was rowed across the dark still waters of the great lake its passage barely leaving a ripple on the oddly thick water "I've seen lakes like this before in Holland" Wilhelm distractedly tells the others "It's something to do with the water flowing through peat" he pauses and looks around somewhat worriedly "But nothing like this" The Italian nodded whilst the rest just looked around trying to make sense of what they were seeing, almost between blinks the landscape seemed to shift and blur distance and time no longer seemed to be a quantifiable thing. The only sound was the muted roar coming from the huge waterfall from which the river on the plateau poured down into the valley and into it's the lak below. The CL.U.Ber's were still trying to come to terms with the shifting time and landscape but after some praying and discussion they pressed on as after all what choice did they really have.

Somehow the sunken remains of the cursed city seemed to stay constant amongst the surrounding madness and they found that if they just concentrated on that the sickness and nausea would fade. The natives were jittery and Father Goodchild even though he was struggling to cope with the strange environmental effects still tried his best to keep them calm, the only person on the raft who seemed unaffected was Prince Unjay he merely remained seated at the back of the raft his Macuahuitl resting across his crossed legs.

"We are nearly there thank the Lord," the Doctor says spitting out some bile but as if in some cruel jest the dark waters around the raft begin to boil and the raft is suddendly in danger of being swamped by the waves now smacking into and over it. The crew cry out and look around trying to find the cause of these sudden choppy waters. Cuthbert and Goodchild call out for calm as the panicked movements of the natives and the CL.U.Ber's were in danger of sinking the raft. The waters seemed to calm down as quickly as they had become agitated and everyone began to breathe a sigh of relief especially as they had almost made it to the cities walls which broke through the water like some kind of obscene teeth.

Giulio laughed and turned to the Doctor and the Translator who manned the crude oars  "Nearly there, throw your backs into it I miei figli" he smiled and was just about to pick up his heavy pack as suddenly a thick black tentacle burst through the water nearby, glistening blackly as water poured down from its fleshy thickness. The tentacle was muscular and one side was covered in pale pink suckers which pulsed with sickening eagerness as it tried to latch onto the now screaming Italian.

The raft violently rocked back and forth as pandemonium broke out on board as everyone reacted to the now numerous tentacles which engulfed the raft, men cried out and orders were barked and the sinister sound of metal sliding past sheaths and hammers being pulled back added to the sudden air of menace.

Giulio was slashing wildly with his telescopic glaive, slashing at the tentacles which were trying to wrap around him. The others were shocked but before they could help the Italian they too were having to fend off tentacles themselves, the Doctor continued desperately to row as a tentacle breached the lake's surface near him and started to sway towards him, he tried to back away whilst still trying to get to the safety of the cities walls he was surprised to see that whilst the tentacle grabbed at his arm it seemed to quickly lose interest in him and instead it slithered back into the water. The Doctors relief is short-lived though as a horrible scream rends the air and as he turns he sees Giulio finally cut his way through the tentacles surrounding him but the cry was not from the triumphant Italian, no the anguished cry came from Wilhelm the Bavarian. The CL.U.Ber's watched horrified and powerless as the Bavarian was ripped clean off from the raft and was now held dangling over the black water by numerous tentacles his arms bound tightly to his torso by one of these tentacles and so he was unable to reach for any of his many weapons and so was unable to offer any form of resistance. He hung there suspended over the lakes bottomless depths for what seemed an age but with a sudden horrifying lurch he was dragged under the waters a splash and a ripple being the only sign of his passing.

The other tentacles released whatever Party members they had grabbed and the terrifying creature beneath sank back to the depths it's prize still silently screaming a stream of bubbles as he was dragged under.

The CL.U.Ber's looked on in shocked horror unable to save their comrade, Cuthbert recovered first and grabbed at the other set of oars and with a terrified cry of "Row you Jackanapes before that turd returns to swallow us all!" The others were shaken out of their shock by his harsh words and apart from Goodchild saying the last rites the others rushed to use whatever they could to propel the raft towards the half-submerged city. With everyone working together and with such frenzied desperation the raft soon clunked against the toppled stones of what once was the cities outer wall. "Quickly, quickly grab the gear and let's get off this fecking deathtrap" Giulio scrambled off and onto the pathway formed by the semi-collapsed walls, the others did indeed grab their gear and got off the good raft Commonwealth Deathtrap. There was a pause and the silence was only broken by the heavy breathing of the CL.U.Ber's and their native guides and then Cuthbert laughed "I can't believe we made it across, I'm sorry about the Bavarian but phew" Father Goodchild was about to scold him but his complaint was interrupted by a huge splashing, cracking thud as a tentacle again breached the oily surface and smashed down onto the raft and ripped it apart and it's splintered remains were soon sucked down to join the Bavarian and whatever other lost souls haunted the depths of the dark lake. The return of the Kraken gave the Party the boost they needed to scramble away from the shore and finally into the cursed city of the Itzel.

The Doctors Journal

The semi-mythical city of Bendal Dolum now lay in front of them but what was once a huge Mayan city complex was now reduced to a few pitiful temple complexes that had been large enough to withstand the siege and the subsequent flooding. These stone buildings though mostly little more than crumbling ruins were still impressive and somehow still monstrous, the Party far from being relieved after their narrow escape from the beast from the depths instead felt a deep sense of dread settle over them and the loss of the Bavarian wasn't its only cause.

The Party cast one last glance at the lake and its far shore and with a collective sigh they gathered up their possessions and weapons and slowly began to clamber over the rubble-strewn outer walls heading for a distant walkway which promised to link up with a temple and then hopefully onto other walkways which lead further into the city of the necromancers.

The journey through the seemingly deserted city was a tense and jittery one, the natives seemed loath to move deeper into the city and only continued with much coaxing from Goodchild and the occasional stern look from Prince Unjay. The Party though was not that much better they too dragged their feet and jumped at every small noise Cuthbert kept muttering in Latin under his breath his fingers twisting under his coat, whilst the Doctor kept pausing and asking the others "Did you see that, a figure there in that doorway?"  But every time anyone else looked they were unable to see anyone or anything so in the Doctor stopped asking and just joined in with Cuthbert in muttering under his breath.

But they did make progress, slow but progress none the less, over one half destroyed walkway after another making quick camps on the side of the oddly disturbing temples and all alone in almost total quiet the oppressive silence was only broken by the sound of the dark waters of the lake whispering up against the aged stone blocks of whatever parts of the ancient city still managed to remain high and solid enough not to fall into the embrace of those cold dark waters.

As noted before time and weather seemed to work differently here in this dark hidden valley which seemed far from the sight of both man and God so it was still light even after hours spent crossing, then backtracking before finding a way across to the next section of the city. Fingers getting itchy with the tension and for one strange and awkward moment an outpouring of grief over the dead and drowned Bavarian, Father Goodchild with fat tears falling down his face declared that at least he was now with God as somewhat fittingly for a Witch hunter he had drowned and not floated, Doctor Norton was not amused but still after all that, they had made it to the dark and brooding structure of the central temp!e.

The walkway to the temples outer walls had been the first one that was still fully intact and had not required the Party to backtrack or to come up with a hair-brained scheme to cross these plans usually ended up with Giulio creating some crazy contraption out of the rope they carried. The walkway also seemed to be made out of a different material which probably explained its longevity. The stone now a dark and somewhat greenish one which was somehow oddly shiny and to the disgust of everyone who touched it with their exposed akin was deeply cold and yet somehow moist. The temples cyclopean outer walls protected the temple and it's precincts from the hungry waters and to the dismay of the CL.U.Ber's this wall was only pierced by one still functioning gateway this dismay was due to it being seemingly blocked by a monolithic slab of stone. They made a hasty camp on the walkway and after examing the strange monolith which seemed to be made of similar stone to the walkway most of the Party shrugged and returned to their campfire to eat a hasty meal of what Goodchild called Poc Chuc which was slow cooked pork pressed with salt, the saltiness was tempered by orange juice and vinegar. The meal is finished off with onions, coriander, and a little sugar. Cuthbert looked very worried but soon the smells had him drooling and even though when asked by a smiling Prince Unjay what he thought of the food the somewhat guilty looking Englishman replied that it was passable for foreign food but it was noted that he asked for thirds and was caught licking the pan whilst he was meant to be washing the dishes up. Goodchild was not the only one to notice that the Doctor barely touched the meal.

After eating his fill and tidying up Cuthbert sauntered back over to the monolith he now noticed that the stone was covered in strange carvings a recurring one was of a great spiral, shaking his head he mutters "Odd that we never noticed these before" the other difference was that the great stone had seemingly moved and there was now a gap, a gap that might be big enough for a man to squeeze through. The secret Alchemist decided that he might benefit from being that man.

Cuthbert slowly started to maneuver past the great rock. A cry and a strange cracking sound alerted the others to a problem the native translator pointed at the monolith his face pale and his pointing finger was shaking "Cuth of Bert the ever eating one he now eaten by the stone" a massive hue and cry erupted as the CL.U.Ber's tried to make sense of what he was on about. The translator took some deep breaths and steadied himself with a quick jolt from the contents of a small stone bottle which hung from his wide leather belt. With one last breath and wiping a gnarled hand across his face he told them what he had seen, "Cuth of Bert he wondered over to the great rock and he looked at the surface he seemed to be talking to himself and then he went to the side" he paused and gulped "Then he went to the side of the gateway and started to wiggle past between stone and wall he seemed to be making it but then I saw the rock pulse a rotten green light and with a crack Cuth of Bert vanished"

The Doctors Journal
Cuthbert found himself wishing that he hadn't eaten so much so recently as his body seemed to be in thirteen different places at once he tried desperately not to vomit but his body was suffering from the incredible forces placed upon so that battle was lost before it even really started. With one final wrenching spasm everything finally seemed to stop and slowly his vision returned the still gagging undercover Alchemist reached shakily for his shouldered musket as he looked warily around. He seemed to be in a brightly lit circular chamber with four smooth corridors leading out from the cardinal points, the chamber was almost silent apart from a very faint and distant throbbing hum. Cuthbert spun around trying to find the entrance he must have come through but with rising panic, he realised that there was no sign of any entrance and that his comrades were nowhere to be seen...........he was all alone.
Back outside on the walkway, the others were desperately examing the monolith and the gateway, Giulio walked slightly away from the other's and was calling out for Cuthbert but only his oddly distorted echo answered him. The others could now see the spirals and the other carvings on the stone but they were unable to find any trace of Cuthbert, Goodchild began to pray and Giulio stormed back "Shut up priest he ain't dead yet, besides he still has some of that blasted gold on him and I ain't won off him yet" The Doctor whirled around and pointed an accusing finger at the Jesuit "This is all your bloody fault you blasted Popish knave, this is typical of your sort killing all those opposed  to your heresy, and you don't even have the balls to......." His diatribe was interrupted by a green flash and a snap as Cuthbert  suddenly reappeared his hand outstretched and his trousers damp his vomit covered face briefly held an idiotic expression  before with a shake of his head his eyes went wide and he collapsed to the floor " Thank the Lord, thank the Lord" he repeated over and over again As the others slowly approached him some relieved whilst others strayed towards blade and gun.
Several tense moments's later as Cuthbert explained what had happened to him and was questioned about recent events he finally managed to convince those Party members who were not sure who or what had come back.
So after explanations were given and grudgingly accepted the Party got back to the problem at hand various ideas were put forward but the general consensus was that touching the monolith was a really, really bad idea and getting past it and into the courtyard of the temple beyond was still the best overall plan. The Doctor spent some time looking at the gap and using his sword to mark off distance rubbing his chin thoughtfully he turned to the others and told them that either the monolith or the gateway was changing size and now the gap between them was big enough to slide through without touching the monolith itself but he thought bracing the gap might be a good idea as it might be awkward if they began to move closer again. So the Party gathered up all the loose rubble and whatever driftwood they could drag out of the nearby waters and after a lot of swearing managed to cobble together a fairly solid brace between the monolith and the side of the gateway. When all was in place they drew straws to see who not only went first but perhaps more importantly who went last and when that was all sorted outs bags were grabbed and then one by one they ran through the gap into the courtyard beyond. Prince Unjay was the last through and as he rushed past the monolith it began to pulse with the sickly green light again but this time the pulses came faster and faster and just as Unjay cleared the gap there came that dreadful snap again and the monolith filled the gateway once more and of the wood and stone used to brace the gap nothing remained.
The Party breathed a sigh of relief but Cuthbert who was looking around the vast stone courtyard in which they now found themselves asked "Um is it me or is it suddenly getting dark and when did we have two suns?" Cue more panicking cries of the world is doomed and huge future laundry bills before the natives and the CL.U.Ber's managed to get a hold of themselves and calmed down.
The courtyard was huge and the vast stone blocks which were used in its construction were fitted together so tightly that it appears no mortar was used or indeed needed but though that was impressive and worthy of further investigation the falling darkness was still a more pressing issue. The other thing that now grabbed everyone's attention was the huge statues that appeared suddenly ahead of them leading from the gateway to the base of the great temple. "Ahh maybe it was an optical illusion like they have in the deserts......or maybe something to do with the falling light?" offered Giulio as an explanation for their sudden appearance but even he sounded unconvinced. The statues unnerved the natives and Goodchild was forced to go over and speak to them he then went over to Prince Unjay and was subjected to a brief angry conversation from the Royal son,  he nodded and returned to the CL. U.Ber's who had started to walk quickly towards the base of the temple occasionally casting worried glances up to the still darkening sky and the obscene statues which now flanked them. Goodchild called out to them "Wait! don't you know what these statues are? they show the true God of the Itzel and it's servants" Cuthbert spun around and shouted "Who feckin cares? unless you and the natives want to stay out here in the dark I feckin suggest you get yourself and them moving" Father Goodchild looked shocked then thoughtfully looked upwards at the setting twin suns, he seemed to make his decision so rushed back to the Prince and his escort and after another angry sounding conversation with much pointing they began to run after the others.

Hey Jay, just realised that the first recorded game is this one so once they reach the shaft I think that's a wrap.

So everyone else needs to check out https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCt6OdAvyTsSSMmj_uAe7-YA  to continue to follow these crazy adventures, will they finally catch up with the Arch Satanist/Mythos sorcerer Mallebench, will Cuthbert's dark secret finally be exposed?........no not that one, wow get your heads out of the gutter I mean the Alchemist one, sheesh. Will Saul return from moonlighting for Commonwealth slavery inc.? (And has he informed H.LP.R.C about the second income!) Will Thomas the Frenchman and Wilhelm the Bavarian finally admit that they are Popish agents hell-bent on bringing the Popes tyranny back to English shores? And last but not least will the brave, handsome and world renown stud muffin known as the Doctor finally break down under the pressure of working with this band of heathens and kill his fellow party members in their sleep before running off with his vampire lover Elizabeth?.

So what are you doing? head there now 😁

And let us know what you think all comments and suggestions gratefully received.

The Doctors journal

The CL.U.Ber's rush towards the base of the great temple the light failing fast the setting twin suns casting strange and horrific shadows into the cyclopean architecture. The courtyard was silent no insects chipped no birds sang the whole city seemed tense, guarded somehow as if waiting for some great event, the only sound now heard in this once mighty city was the slap of boot leather in stone and the half weeping/wheezing breaths of the Party as they desperately tried to find a way into the great temple and away from the falling darkness and the terribly building tension.

On the furthest side from the gateway and it's hateful monolith, the Party round the corner and are greeted with a wondrous sight, a huge stone head was carved into the side of the temple it was in the likeness of a native. The stone was worked with amazing skill and the whole object somehow exuded a real and terrible presence. The local knowledge/engineering think tank of Goodchild and Giulio quickly climbed up to the huge statue which obviously seemed to be some form of entranceway and indeed the great screaming mouth was blocked by a great stone door. As the rest huddled together at the base of the temple casting increasingly worried looks at the great statues "Ahh the statue moved its branch things moved, didn't it" cried the Doctor and whilst normally he would have been laughed at now he found that the group near him native and CL.U.Ber alike just nodded ashen-faced and as a group took several steps closer to the closed portal.

Cuthbert seemed to notice something carved into the wall low down and almost hidden by the rise of the stone tongue, a small dip inset carving which reminded him of a certain medallion. He rushes to the now gibbering Doctor and grasping him by the shoulders screamed into his face, a scream which got more shrill as looking past the Doctors shoulders he saw one of the statues turn and face the doorway its branch-like tentacles whipping around as if in a storm but there was not a breath of wind in the complex with which to dispel the humid oppressive heat "Give me the fecking medallion" the Doctor struggled the assault seemingly rousing from his funk " Get your turd stained hands off of me" but Cuthbert would not could not back down especially as the statue now stepped off its plinth with a crash of the world's end. The Doctor suddenly calmed down and began to rummage around in one of his copious pockets pulling out the strange medallion given to him by that bastard Warlock, Edgar Mallebeench all those months ago. He handed Cuthbert the medallion "I don't want to look behind do I?" Cuthbert merely scrambled back to the carving and shouted out "Say something impressively holy, Goodchild" Goodchild surprisingly grasping the intent cried outraised his hands high and bringing them down with a flourish cried "In the name of the Lord I command you to open" and with the last word echoing Cuthbert pushed the medallion into the carved inset and twisted the now locked in medallion clockwise much to everyone's relief the doorway rumbled open, barely had the stone door opened far enough to let someone squeeze past the CL.U.Ber's had charged into the dark, dusty corridor beyond. A great oily shadow filled the open doorway behind them and a great pressure suddenly seemed to crush down into their minds as a discordant and terrible creaking filled the air. Goodchild staggers up and towards the open doorway blood leaking from his nose and ears he raised his arms and pointing at the terrible living statue croaked out " I say unto thee demon, the power of Christ compels you! The power of Christ compels you,  foul demon to leave this land given and blessed by the Lord unto man and return to your own hellish realm to suffer for your sins as the Lord God intended! " and amazingly whilst the demon didn't get sucked back down to hell it did kind of disappear as the great stone door slides back across the entranceway and with a deafening thud it slams closed once more and as soon as it had fully closed that terrible pressure and creaking stopped.

Quickly lighting their few remaining torches that had remained dry the Party then spend some time arguing about what the hell had just happened, the natives look upon Father Goodchild in a new light and it finally takes Cuthbert to restore order and remind everyone where they are and what they hope to achieve he has to throw in a few Zeal for the Lords to finally get through to his fellow CL.U.Ber's and a very quick whispered conversation with Goodchild to get everyone moving again, it also helped when he innocently asked Guilio how long did he think the stone door would hold if say it was attacked by a huge freaking tree monster.

So with a slightly undue amount of haste, they all begin following the spiral ramp further up and into the Itzel's great temple and hopefully far away from the stone doorway and what terrible nightmares now lay beyond.

The corridor spiralled upwards its walls adorned by numerous stone glyphs carved out of the same strange rock as the walkway these glyphs reflected the light of the torches back oddly as if there was a greater distance for the light to travel back than there was. Goodchild bent to examine a particular set of glyphs forcing the rest of the Party to stop and wait. Cuthbert told the Jesuit priest to hurry up but Goodchild appeared fascinated and would not hurry merely saying "Don't you want to know what may lay in front of us?" He quickly returned to studying the wall as the others shifted around somewhat uncomfortably. Goodchild began muttering "Interesting these do not match any hieroglyphs I've ever seen before they are similar to Ch'olti' but subtly different almost...I don't understand I've studied some of the Codices with Father Juan de Izquierdo he was no De Landra that's for sure but even so" his musings were interrupted by a crashing sound coming from the entrance which brought down a huge amount of dust which filled the corridor choking everyone Cuthbert grabbed the Priest and dragging him away after the others told him that his intellectual pursuits will have to wait for another day. The Party fairly flew up the corridor now their sweat-stained clothes now covered in a thick grey coating of dust giving them an air of shades, the glyphs have way to vast and colourful mosaics displaying the history of the Itzel it showed in horrifying detail their fall and corruption even from the viewpoint of those Mayans who still secretly clung to the old ways, yes there had been blood sacrifice but nothing like the events pictured on those foul mosaics many of the Party were now openly weeping desperately trying to tear their gaze away but finding that they could not some of the natives were chanting something whilst Goodchild and the Doctor were almost shouting out the Lord's prayer as they continued to stumble onwards. The only one who seemed unaffected was the Prince who merely gripped his Macuahuitl tightly enough to make it creak.

Sobbing and somewhat soiled the Party finally burst out of the horrid corridors and it's dark revelations that promised truths that simply could not be, at into the topmost chamber of the temple. The rooms' walls were thankfully devoid of mosaics but were instead carved wondrously with visions of the night sky during different times. The carvings had rare and semi-precious stones marking important stars and planets and thin lines of silver were used to show angles and movements, it truly took the breath away. Unfortunately this was spoiled somewhat by what lay beneath the opening in the ceiling and which took up most of the room in the chamber...... a huge opening that smelled of death and spilt blood even after all this time, Unjay pointed at it and said in a mix of halting Spanish "Debemos entrar en el inframundo por la bocca de los dioses" the native translator seeing all eyes upon him pointed to the shaft and with a resigned shrug "The Prince says we must climb down the Cenote, the Itzel believed that this one led to the underworld where their gods still slept awaiting the day when the stars were right.

That's it all done everyone should now be caught up in the past adventures of the Agents of the Clockwork Underground Bureau, and their desperate hunt for Constantine Mallebench the arch Satanist before he enacts his terrible plan and dooms not only the new Commonwealth but possibly the whole world.

So check out the Vanishing tower YouTube channel.

Phew, kinda sad and yet relieved that this has come to an end.

Addendum

So this journey has been an awesome one starting way back in 2014 (October) with Andrew as the G.M and the original party consisting of,

Irwin Bailey: A watchman hailing from Warwickshire. As a fine and upstanding man of the people, Irwin is not averse to gunfire and stabbing people through the lungs when circumstances demand. Faction: Clubmen.

Saul Goodman: A Yorkshire soldier recently returned from the wars in Europe. Renowned for his marksmanship. Suffered fire and plague in his youth, possibly as a result of bad dice rolls. Faction: Puritan.

Thomas Norton: A Paracelsian physician from Norfolk. Enjoys beer, bad singing, and dying of exposure in the countryside. Faction: Puritan.

They were all traveling back to Norwich along rain lashed paths after fighting in the recent wars, they were soon joined by,

Chevalier du Main: A Huguenot Cavalier* seeking English funds for his regiment. Wickedly effective with rapier and pistol. Feared by ambulatory creatures everywhere. Faction: the Regiment. (*Erm surely Parliamentarian or else I've only just discovered he was an enemy spy) and the group of desperadoes was rounded out by,

Marco Clabustri: the Croatian mercenary who I think joined in session three or four.

And with the reboot of the game, the Party changed Irwin Bailey decided to try his luck at something else whilst Giulio: the slightly lost Italian Mercenary joined up on the promise of wealth and fame and possibly romance (Think Carlo Fantom but with a better mustache and a love of pasta) and the gang was completed several sessions later by Thomas (pronounced ToMas) de Fronsac another suspicious Frenchman.

So the game had fallen into a bit of a hiatus but was brought back from the brink by Jay who had previously played as the deadly French fop, the Chevalier du Main (Yay) in 2016 and the adventure turned into a continent-spanning hunt for the oft-frustrated Mallebench the devious and murderous sorcerer who was hell-bent on realizing some great and dark master plan. The game explored corruption of both the physical and the spiritual with gangs and soldiers bribed into doing dark deeds and turning a blind eye whilst others were corrupted and then blackmailed into becoming cultists fully prepared to commit murder and worse on behalf of their new puppet master.

Bullets flew, limbs were hacked and gravy was poisoned as the Party to fell under the sway of their new Master, a man known as Zeal for the Lord Harrison who was appeared to be the head of Parliament's secret service otherwise known as the Clockwork Underground Bureau and they became sucked into Zeals desperate plans to capture Mallebench.

During the course of their adventures, they have managed to foil many of his plans and uncover many of his servants and in doing so drove him to consider more desperate methods which finally drove him to flee to Central America and beyond. The adventure seems to be entering its final stages as Mallebench appears to be finally cornered but does the clever Sorceror have one last trick up his sleeve?

Thanks to everyone involved it was one hell of a journey which led me to look into the history of this dark, murderous, exciting and revolutionary period and finding out that sometimes reality is indeed weirder than fiction and to loving the Renaissance rule set.

Funny thing, we are temporarily suspended and won't be able to play until May, and then I will be in Scotland so... Right at the endgame too! 😣

Anyways, for a group of strangers to keep each other entertained for three years something good was happening for sure. I do hope to see it reach some sort of conclusion or earth is doomed for sure.

Quick recaps,

Well its been a bit rocky and unfortunately due to a variety of reasons the current game has gone on hiatus for a bit (Its a good time to contact Jagerfury if you fancy giving the setting a spin) The party explored the dark caverns beneath the sinking city and seem to cross over a barrier of sorts it was marked by a open gateway set within a high wall made from some strange glossy stone strange markings cut deep within the stone frame briefly glowed as we past through but no one not even the natives knew what they said or meant, Beyond the wall it looked the same dark impossibly large caverns which swallowed the pitiful light of our torches and lanterns which oddly had the effect of making the party feel claustrophobic. After some exploration the party found a tunnel leading further northwards and soon signs of tool marks could be seen as the tunnel becomes less natural looking and more man? made  after travelling for some time a strange glow can be seen coming from the tunnels now revealed exit which was lucky as the last of the torches were starting to sputter and die. The tunnel exited into another vast cavern but this one contained a huge lake or sea just beyond a narrow strip of black sand beach the glow was coming from a layer of something that floated vastly upon the water. The party looked around and there was a beach, a few ruined cottages near a dark stone jetty, something gleamed dully at the end of this jetty, a group of standing stones half sunken into the sand further down the beach and looking back behind them they saw that the tunnel came out of the caverns far wall which was riddled with numerous small openings some barely large enough to fit a rabbit whilst others were big enough to fit a house into. The water lapped upon the dark sand filling the area with an unsettling hiss and the party were left looking around in awe and wondering where to go next.

So the question before the Party was where next and did anyone have the swim skill? the area was quickly explored, the strange object at the end of the jetty turned out to be a bronze gong next to an unlit brazier, nothing really interesting turned up in the ruins near the end of the jetty they seemed long scavenged and just contained sand and dust. The half buried stones were checked out by the Witch hunter who discovered that they were crude statues in the form of giant owls much like those found under Saracenic hall he reached out and touched one feeling the grittiness of the stone and the crude tool marks but then he cried out pulling his hand in close to his body as if he had burnt it, he staggered back a few steps but remained standing. The others rushed to his aid and he sheepishly waved them off saying he was fine just a little shook up, seeing that he was alright the others returned to exploring the area the Doctor commenting on the oddness of seeing similar stone statues to those found in Norfolk especially since he thought that they had come from the middle east. The Witch hunter carried on down past the Owls and seemed to be heading towards the caves at the end of the beach when he again cries out but this time he fell to his knees and as the others run up towards him from their various areas of exploration they hear him begin to talk in tongues and they are shocked as it looks like he is having a conversation with something on his shoulder. The others are concerned but the Witch Hunter struggles up waving away the offers of help and with a strange look of comprehension upon his face he coughs and in a soft voice tells the others that he knows how to summon a Black ship to take them across the glowing lake al lit would take was a blood ritual.

This caused some issues mainly from the Doctor who thought that this was an incident that needed exploring he had made deals before that turned out to have unfortunate consequences but had made attempts to rectify them as best he could afterwards and he thought that the Hunter could no longer be trusted but he was seemingly the only one who thought this everyone else was happy that they now knew off a way off the beach and were unconcerned about the ramifications of going through with a plan inspired by a ghostly spirit linked to statues similar to those found under a Warlocks home.

The Party knocked out the Doctor and performed the ritual dripping blood onto some silver shillings and dropping them into the water by the gong as an offering (Luckily plan A wasn't used which was blood being dripped onto a silver crucifix)

The caves were explored and some of the Party encountered a strange effect in one of the caves and after some confusion and misdirection they were spilt apart and had to face a challenge issued by an old native woman who seemed to be some kind of shaman. The challenge for the Hunter was to face himself in combat and he fared badly against his doppleganger which almost killed him (Black Powder weapons are very deadly) until he remembered the Thundergun hanging from his baldric and so was able to blast his evil twin away with a shot to its face. His reward for surviving this horrific experience was a potion which luckily healed him with no after effects. The  Alchemist somewhat more wisely picked an intellectual challenge and was easily able to provide the correct answer and so the shaman showed him the way out of the caves and back onto the beach just in time to see the ragged sails of a galleon appear on the horizon.

The wreck of a ship pulled up to the jetty and the Party were somewhat stunned when a rotting gangplank crashed down and a smallish man appeared on the deck his skin was pale and had an odd greenish cast and he sported a large oily beard twisted into a point and upon his head he sported a large and impressive turban with a large red stone held in it's center. He smiled a sharp toothed smile and in a heavily accented English greeted the Party "Welcome  my new friends I am Olmo Lung the captain of this fine vessel please, please board you have paid the price and we can take you to wherever you desire" and seemingly no other option the Party board the strange vessel. They are quickly hustled away to a cabin and are only able to quickly glance around seeing a couple more men dressed in similar fashion to the captain before being pushed into the cabin and asked to stay within "For are own safety" as the captain explained as the Party tried to ask about other people who may have made this journey recently the captain bowing closed the door and replied just as the door clicked shut "Never fear we know and we can take you to your friend never fear, passage has been paid......"

Ship adventures

The ship contained huge (Pony sized) creatures of pale blubbery flesh and nothing but tentacles for faces these things seemed to provide the muscle behind the oars and the Doctor went mad seeing them.

The crew were revealed to be satyr like men, horns sprouting from their heads and backward facing legs ending in cloven hoofs  they seemed to be mortally afraid of the pale beasts.

The ship could fly!!

Realising that getting on board this hulk may have been a very, very bad idea the Party attempted to seize the ship or at least get to the deck and then off the ship somehow it wasnt looking good but help came from an unexpected source.......Pirates on their own flying ship.

Between the Party and the many, many pirates which were now swarming across the Black ship was damaged and the Party were able to fight their way across to the pirates ship and meet the glamorous female Captain Known as Maria de Tres Pistolas.

Introductions were brief as another Black ship appeared and a vicious and terrifying sea battle broke out and soon the air was filled with cannon balls, splintering wood, screams and other stranger projectiles.

The Battle was close but the greater numbers and seafaring skills of the pirates were able to carry the day but only at a great cost the ship was badly damaged and its strange possibly clockwork engines were damaged so the ship was only able to limp across the sky and many of the crew had fallen beneath the tentacles and pistols of the Black ships monstrous crew, which was lucky for the party as now they were now available to fill those career openings.

Quick recaps,

The Party managed to convince the pirate Captain (Maria de Tres Pistolas) that they were not part of the Black ship and had in fact been captured by them (Little white lies) and had no idea where they currently were after throwing themselves on her mercy she talked to a couple of members of her crew some having witnessed the Party fighting the Pale beasts spoke up for them others were not as trusting so a compromise was reached we could join the crew and she would take us to shore (eventually) but we would be watched at all times as a cloud of suspicion still hung heavy over them.

The Party were now joined by one of the slaves which had been pulled shocked and half drowned from the sinking wrecks of the Black ships who having nothing really to go back to has decided to seek revenge on the Pale beasts who had caused him so much hurt and so he had decided to join the Party in their quest.

The pirates ship sailed as best as it could considering the damage it had received in the sea battle, the current plan was to follow one of the Black ships which had arrived late to the battle and decided that discretion was the better part of valor in this case and had high tailed it out of the battle after taking a few hits. This ship had taken to the air in an attempt to evade Maria de Tres Pistolas (The Party discovered that she and her crew were themselves fairly new to these strange seas and had been hired by a local worthy to patrol and hunt down any Black Ships as they had a noisome reputation as slavers) the Black ship was heading towards a storm bank that was quickly forming on the lightning lashed eastern horizon.

The ship was followed but the pirates could not keep up with the vessel due to their engine damage and it slowly managed to pull away leaving the pirate ship behind soon lost within a storm and with no sign of land or even the unusual skies which once shone above. After some suppressed panic and a few mumbled prayers to gods known and unknown which caused some issues with the Party but luckily someone was listening it seemed as the battered ship an its half crazed crew finally made it through the storm and the ship seemed to be heading through a dark starlit void towards a sandy coloured planet.......unbelievably the ship seemed to be heading to a moon but not a moon the Party recognized. The new Party member though was calm though as he had recognized it as the moon of his home......the Dreamlands.

Maria managed to get enough power from the remaining engines to land the ship more or less intact and the Party were volunteered to became the shore party and they were tasked to find spares or a settlement of some kind. Equipment was gathered and a list of spare parts made and the Party were pointed to the desert that now surrounded the ship, the Party not having much choice began to trudge off into the reddish sands but didn't get too far before they were engulfed in a sudden sandstorm the wind causing the sand to rub together which filled the air with static electricity men were flung from the rigging an the Party had to get down on their bellies desperately trying to cover their heads from the scouring sands one of the Party looking up with tears in his eyes swore later that he saw a great face formed from clouds, sand and lightning that seemed to be indicating a direction.

The Party continue to search the area around the crashed ship for signs of life or just anything to salvage as the ship needs numerous repairs before it can take to the skies again but nothing can be found close by so Maria sends the party out alone to explore further especially after the Hunter tells people of his vision (The Doctor is distrusting the Hunter more and more and its causing problems) the Party load up with supplies and head off into the blasted landscape hoping to find signs of life the Hunter leading the way seemingly following a map only he can see.

After several miles of hard slog they reach a depression in the land which ends up leading into a valley which contains the first signs of life, large fungus type plants which cover the floor before a cleft in the valley side.

The Fungus has some strange effects but pushing through the Party explore the cave system beyond eventually encountering two members of the Paladins of the Fall?  (Nix and Naga) and another person who seemed more of a puppet than a real person the puppet turned out to be Clamen Morrow the mysterious man they had encountered numerous time in the past and was suspected to be some kind of Cunning man and so couldn't really be trusted but he had provided help in the past so had built up a little good will, enough to be listened to at least. After some explanations which quite frankly seemed mad and somewhat far fetched he came to the point he told the Party that they could find what the needed at a nearby tower and since they were heading that way any how he wondered if they could do a little job for him you know as payment for the information.

There followed some strange adventures where the Party encountered a strange tower whose side had been breached by a strange carriage the carriage was made of metal and seemed to have some parts similar to Captain Marias ship which was the first bit of good luck the Party had gotten since climbing down that Cenote all those days ago.

The Carriage was climbed over and entry to the towers insides were entered the Party hoped that they would find what Clamen wanted fairly quickly so they could get back to the more important task of stripping the carriage for spare parts. The tower was mostly empty a work bench here or there lay against the wall covered in dust and the towers high roof was missing a strange sky could be seen through the rafters which crisscrossed the upper levels crazily like the bleached ribs of some hideously deformed animal. The centre of the tower was filled by a strange rock column upon which a mirror or a vast painting? a strange heat haze shimmered in the air before it making it hard to make out what actually it was. A couple of the Party go and explore and their bickering over how to get to the top soon dragged in the rest of the party and after much discussion and some inventive use of the equipment and scrap they finally figure out a relatively effective way to safely get to the top and the strange mirage above.

It's getting weird

The group eventually make it to the top of the strange column and find out that the strange mirage is in fact a doorway of sorts to what looks like home well its a forest at least so with one last look at the barren dusty landscape they jump through.

The forest is inhabited by enormous insect like creatures which was fun,

Jumping over a small creek sometimes leads to broken bones and having a madman stick you into a hastily built frame/body splint.

The forest peters out and becomes marshland a raised road leads across it and another circle of Owl statues can be seen half submerged in the muck.

After awhile a stone church comes out of the mist and seeing no other sign of shelter the Party decide to try their luck and climb up the small mound and knock upon the door, after waiting for a couple of moments the sounds of a bar being dragged through brackets and the thick door opens inwards and a shadowy figure the gleam from moistened teeth the only real thing to be made out from it's hooded face grins widely and with a voice full of phlegm coughs and says "Welcome travellers enter freely and leave a little of the joy you bring" The Party are relieved, at last someone human and a church has got to be a safe place to rest up and figure out what the hell is happening and where they are they eagerly push past the shadowy doorkeeper and find themselves inside what looks like a regular English church one that looks Catholic with huge paintings lining the walls dimly illuminated by the weak sunlight pouring through the stained glass windows turning the Party prepare to ask the doorkeeper a series of somewhat urgent questions but he has somehow disappeared without making a sound and even with one of the group rushing straight back outside there is no trace of him the marshlands are as deserted as before and a thick mist is starting to flow in from the marshes.

The church had a lot of possible plot points to be discovered from its strange gallery of paintings,  a rotten shelf full of books and a pile of odd adventuring provisions that seemed to be stored in preparation for some expedition possibly connected to the odd opening they found in the rear of the church which seemed to lead under the church. The Players spent some time making sure the church was indeed empty and secure and that there was no sign of the man who welcomed them inside and then a couple of them decided to rest up and took the opportunity to rest up especially the Doctor who had badly injured himself crossing a stream earlier on.

After an all to brief rest some of the Party finally could no longer resist exploring the hole in the floor and using some of those stores found nearby they began their descent into inky moist darkness below and into a stone dressed chamber which as suspected did indeed have many passageways leading away further underground it seemed as if someone had constructed a Cretan style maze under the church for some yet unknown reason. The Chamber they now found themselves in seemed more or less empty apart from a strange stain found on the floor which reminded one of the Party of a snail track and a few iron sconces for torches.

A passageway was picked more or less at random and the area explored and with the only the dim lantern light providing the only illumination they nearly missed the discoloured area of wall in the middle of one passeway. The Witch hunter looking closer discovered a strange symbol faintly painted over the discoloured area of stonework and he being learned in such things was able to decipher the symbol as a early Christian one which meant it was a holy one but he wasn't able to remember if it was a symbol of warning or of protection. The Hunter thought for a moment and then with a shrug smashed the hilt of his sword into the area covered by the symbol and the rotten stone easily crumbled away revealing a small chamber behind which contained a small book covered in fine and oddly soft leather. The Doctor shuddered as he saw the pink/pale leather cover and stepped away from it saying that it seemed to him an ill omened tome and should be destroyed forthwith the Hunter smiled and agreed but he still slipped the tome into one of his pouches.

The passageway they were on led to others and they travelled down one and then another travelling for what seemed like an age they passed a few more areas of discoloured stonework but for now decided to leave them intact. Eventually they had to stop as all the passeways seemed to lead to this semi raised block which they would have to climb over if they wanted to progress any further and from the strange sounds they could hear coming from behind and above they were not sure they really wanted to. The sounds were a strange mix of slurping, crunching and somehow most unnerving of all.......crying the Doctor and the Hunter had another one of their "discussions" and they eventually managed to convince each other to go upwards and onwards.

Long story short they encountered a corrupted Priest who for his earthly sins had been transformed into a hideous immortal slug monster and he was now a  horrifying mix of slimy grey undulating flesh intermixed with still recognizable human limbs here and there. It seems that he had been imprisoned in this maze and had church built over it as a way to keep the seals of his prison intact as well as a place for the priestly warders to live and maintain the watch on their new charge but over time the order and their prisoner had become forgotten by the main body of the church the the seals had weakened and so the crazed dreams of the corrupted Priest had infected his few remaining watchers and they had in turn slowly been corrupted into worshipping him.

Unfortunately the last warden priest had died before he had been able to figure out a way to free his new god and only his lost shade remained in the church his unfinished duty keeping him tied to the building waiting for some foolish adventurers to arrive and possibly by their actions release his god.The Hunter and Doctor battled the corrupted Priest and were slowly forced back into the central chamber as many of their attacks had just slid off the slime covering the Priests huge and grotesque form with it's endlessly crying face, but they had managed to hold it back long enough for them to climb back up into the main body of the church and now with the high ground theirs  they rained down a flaming tide of oil and other incendiaries onto the creature below and soon the Priest was reduced to a screeching tower of melting flesh, the purifying flames soon ended his tormented existence forever and sending his soul finally to finally God's long delayed judgement. The badly shocked and battered Party quickly gathered up what treasure and supplies they could grab and left the now crumbling and rapidly aging  building as swiftly as they could and made their way back along the raised marsh road and back towards the strange woods hoping that they would find the portal still there and open.

The Party make it back to the tower and their new comrade (Silas) who was a native from the area realised that the central column and the gate above was some kind of magical device and what was experienced beyond was something like a dream, a dream so powerful and believable that it tricked the body into thinking it was all real much to the disappointment of the still badly wounded Doctor.

The strange vehicle that had crashed through the side of the tower was investigated and it was a strange object its structure made of metals instead of the more expected wood and it also had a few strange tiny lanterns? at the front where it looked like it was designed for people to sit and these seemed to go out but then the light returned again briefly it was most strange. Unfortunately someone touched something and the room was filled with a strange humming and the Party were shocked as a transparent barrier of some kind slid over them trapping them inside the shock didn't last that long as they were slammed back onto the floor with such force that many of them blacked out unconsciousness claiming them as the carriage blasted off skywards towards what looked like a star

The star turned out to be a settlement in the heavens it's outside was blackened and scorched and great rents had been torn in it's exterior but being unconscious the Party missed all this wonder and they were only awoken when the strange vehicle hooked itself onto one of the numerous spires that came out from the settlements sides with a loud clang. The Party was unsure what to do but with no option apart from going totally insane began to explore trying to make sense of where they were and more importantly how to get back to a world they understand, strange lizard like creatures were encountered and they were hostile they immediately launched themselves at the Party inflicting a grave wound on the Doctor almost cutting off one of his legs leaving him with a huge chunk of thigh missing and having to stagger along dragging his now almost useless leg along leaving a bloody smear behind him. Luckily the other members of the Party were able to defeat the lizard creatures using some of the strange new weapons they had been given by Mr. Morrow. After a brief rest they pushed forwards trying to be a silent as possible which was harder to do then they expected as the metal floors caused every footfall to echo in the silence of the settlement.

More creatures were encountered some which seemed to be made of fungus these were ambushed and killed without too much trouble whilst a mix bag of bat and horse like ones ended up causing a rift in the Party some wanted to talk to them for some unknown reason whilst the Doctor argued that the other creatures had been dispatched without any discussion but now faced with a creature that actually looked like a demon they hesitated? he was furious and suspected that the Hunter had been corrupted by the incident on the beach all those days ago and had managed to sway the others they being weak willed foreigners in the main so he braced himself almost crying in pain, pain from his ruined leg and the more injurious pain from the betrayal and he attacked the creatures ignoring the threat from Silas who was pointing a gun at his head his fumbling attack killed a few of the creatures and drove off the others.

And here it more or less ended the Doctor committed suicide he knew that this was ungodly but he had known his soul had been forfeit for a long time now and this last betrayal was too much for his shaken psyche to take, the Alchemist died alone whilst exploring the new carriage they had found what seemed to be an engine room of some sort where he had been interrupted by a horde of strange mechanical rat like creatures and in a desperate attempt to get away had lit his last grenade blowing himself and a large chunk of the horde up. The last two remaining adventurers heard the dull thump of the grenade going off but were unable to investigate as they had strapped themselves into the drivers seat of the carriage and that's where the session ended more or less.

I found that Renaissance is a great system with a fantastic setting book, the rules allowed the group to adventure in war torn Britain, sail the seas, trade and scheme in Africa, fight off Spanish soldiers and undead natives in the New world and travel across even stranger new worlds and finally into the depths of space itself and to be honest the rules worked a treat always providing a good, fair system for getting the job done and for the fun to continue. I doubt if the good Doctor will return from deaths embrace but if those brave people who have read this tale of madness, horror and appalling grammar fancy giving it ago there are still two adventurers strapped to their seats inside a huge space rocket or maybe its time to start your own tale of swashbuckling fun.
