  1. I've been waiting for this to come out, just made my purchase. Tonight i'm going to break out my dvds of Korg 70,000 BC. Just skiming thru this, the Neanderthal skill advancement, the method to show their more instinctive side is interesting. Gonna have to give it a go. (And please support this with more material.)

For those interested in this setting, some good supplements to Land of Ice and Stone are National Geographic issues Jan 1975, November 1985 and Smithsonian October 1986, oh yeah, and GURPS Ice Age. Well, there's alot of stuff but these are rather easy to get and rich with info. (dont forget to watch Quest For Fire too).

  2. Hmmm, well GURPS is pretty much it then. Then also Mayfair Games Transylvania and Metagamings Sticks & Stones. We've homebrewed the latter 2 with more creatures and larger map, it's basically like role playing. We call the Transylvania homebrew Super Transylvania. One of the creatures/counters you can summon, if you're the villagers, is a Marine Fire Team. Background is one of the knights swore an oath to defend the village. Well one of the knight's far off descendents is a Marine. So the village priest summons the knight's oath to be fulfilled and you get the fire team. Anyway, it only makes sense if you've played Transylvania. (the vampyre side also has a shoggoth). Very fun.

  3. Good to know.  It was so long ago I wasn't sure.

I think if I were to introduce a roll high variant of BRP/Legend/RQ6 I would go with the Pendragon method and switch from a percentile system to a D20 system.  That is practically going with the D&D skill rank system really, except there would be no classes, just Attributes and Skill ranks.

Oh yeah, now you're on to something. For fun, we did a classless DnD and wrote the edits/rules into the SRD... no classes, just attributes and skill ranks. Hit points were CON (monsters had a bonus based on size). Damage bonus became a die roll (+1 was just +1, +2 = d2, +3 = d3, repeated at d6), armor was like BRP/RQ, you could pick any class special ability. I thought we did a good job with magic too. Anyway, we did it more for fun because of all the d20/ 3.5 material out there. It was a blast. So yeah, you should pursue it for fun :)

  4. Ah.

I'm familiar with the hit locations rules; my first BRP was MRQII, then Legend.

My thought was that the way variable armor is currently handled is a bit too swingy/gradient for my tastes/my logic; but I still like the idea of one pool of hitpoints and major wounds and the like; so I was thinking of other ways to do Variable Armor without going to hit locations.

If you want to keep a single HP pool and still have hit locations, take a look at the GURPS method. I think it would be rather easy to convert, something to look at anyways.

  5. Lol....we can't have a setting without pre-human serpent men....

It would be cool to have a small source book with this, or an adventure book with a lost valley with something like Harry Harrison's West of Eden. (maybe the Yilane experimented on a neanderthal and enhanced/played with his genetics/memetics)

  6. The link doesnt work anymore, but reading the posts, i cant wait for this one. I've been hooked ever since GURPS Ice Age... where my neanderthal drowned, fell into a river running away on a ledge, from a cave bear. (was originally looking for flint to barter with).

  7. This is awesome. (I always wondered about GURPS advantages for RQ/BRP).

I think i'd allow lower skilled characters the chance to gain a feat. But either way, this is cool. Great job!

  8. Been really looking forward to some BRP/RQ/Legend dark ages england material... especially after reading alot of Bernard Cornwell and Jack Whyte... i'll pony up now if they're on kickstarter. Same with a Stone Age setting, had fun with GURPs Stone Age a microgame Sticks & Stones.
