  1. In the Gloranthan calendar, Sacred Time comes at the very end of the year. It marks the joyous time when communities gather together across the world to celebrate building the cosmos anew for a new year. Like our own New Years Eve here on planet Earth, is a time of divinations, omens, and predictions, when oaths are sworn, resolutions are made, and promises are given, to oneself and to others. Sacred Time greetings and Happy New Year from the Chaosium Team! We wish you all the best for 2024. #weareallus Featured art is from Katrin Dirim's beautiful cover for the 2023 release Cults of RuneQuest: The Prosopaedia.
  2. Please follow up via email.
  3. Feeling pleased to have completed a new piece of Gloranthan fiction, 'Jaxarte in Boldhome'. You'll see this in the new edition of A Rough Guide to Boldhome, to be released with the triumphant return of the Home of the Bold freeform at Chaosium Con next April. In this tale our hapless protagonist encounters foul-mouthed porters, a killer robot (or is it?), the assorted varieties of Dwarven canned meat, and the secrets of Mostali parquetry (hint: needs plenty of roughage). It's not 2024, but I'm making an early resolution to ensure I have more time for creative work next year, as writing this tale was fun! [BTW, the above image is one of Ian O'Toole's delightfully whimsical cards from our game Khan of Khans - I'm excited that my new Jaxarte story fiction is going to feature artwork by none other than Mark Baldwin. Mark illustrated my first-ever Jaxarte piece in Tales of the Reaching Moon issue #3, over 30 years ago!] And if you're interested in taking part in Home of the Bold at Chaosium Con places are going fast! Read all about it here:

  8. OUT NOW: Three 7th Sea novels, all by 7th Sea TTRPG creator John Wick! Born Under the Black Flag Vicaro paused. He considered St. Claire carefully. “Are you a man of God, St. Claire?” St. Claire shook his head. “I’m not trying to get into Heaven. I’m just trying to make up for the evil I’ve done.” Thomas St. Claire was the bane of the Seven Seas. A ruthless villian who plundered every port in Théah and beyond. But something happened to him out there on the waves. Now, he hunts down those who prey on the weak. What transformed one of Théah’s most notorious villians into one of its most famous heroes? This is the story of one man’s evolution… and unlikely redemption. Daughter of Fate The fate witches posses a fearful gift: the ability to see and manipulate the invisible threads that bind humanity. They are kept isolated from the world, living in servitude and obedience to those who would control their power. Elena Mondavi lived the quiet life of a fate witch… until an abduction thrust her into a world of action, intrigue and danger. How did Elena, the bound daughter of a Vodacce merchant, become a pirate on the Atabean Sea, an explorer of Syrneth ruins and a spy for the Avalon Throne. Daughter of Fate tells her story. The Gossamer Empire “My journey to the Crescent Empire was not as simple as I hoped. The situation there is much more perilous than I suspected or that our spies have suggested. It is in complete chaos. When Antoine said a single woman was holding the entire Empire together with her bare hands, we were wrong to assume he was employing his standard hyperbole. His words were truer than we could have ever suspected.” The daughter of the Emperor of the Crescent Empire travels to Théah, only to return home to a kingdom in turmoil. Available now at DriveThruRPG and DriveThruFiction Out now in PDF; POD and e-book versions to follow. Born Under the Black Flag, 240 pages – $8.99 Daughter of Fate, 336 pages – $11.49 The Gossamer Empire, 174 pages – $7.49

  11. The 'Unnatural Selections' series is our regular round up of notable Chaosium reviews worth a look. Here's some recent critical commentary for Call of Cthulhu... Here's some early reviews of our latest Call of Cthulhu release, the modern day solo adventure Alone Against the Static: “Alone Against the Static is the best Call of Cthulhu solo adventure I’ve played… [It] creeps me out… The theme of static noise is elegantly revisited again and again, this uncertainty slowly seeps into your consciousness, I don’t know what’s going on here, but I don’t like it. This feeling becomes denser and lasts so long it’s a joy.” — Pen and Paper News. "replay value is high... (it) feels like a 90s horror movie. The isolated quiet of the Black Hills, a remote rundown cabin, a collection of creepy video tapes, and a VCR with a mind of its own will all feel familiar to players of a certain age... players will no doubt find themselves desperately flipping pages as their doom unspools before them time and time again." — The Gaming Gang. "Unsettling and immersive, with clever nods to modern horror tropes: TV static, found footage..." — El Runeblogger. "I also have to confess that it is the first time that one of these books makes me feel something similar to real fear, there are decisions that make you feel nervous, excited and a sense of danger." — Tristan Oberon, Whispers from Darkness. "9 out of 10: I was also pleased that not everything is handed to you on a plate, so even after playing through the game several times, there are still questions that cannot be answered - and often that is what horror is all about." — Poltergeist. "I've died 3/3 times so far and it's glorious!" — JH (customer review). "5 Stars - The Best Alone Against Yet. This is a great adventure and an amazing story. I've enjoyed several of the Alone Against modules, but this one hurt me... In a good way." — Clay Fare (customer review). Alone Against the Static is available now from Chaosium.com in full color hard cover (price includes PDF). Also available at DriveThruRPG.

  16. Home of the Bold is coming to Chaosium Con 2024 in Ann Arbor MI! Last run over 20 years ago, this epic 50 person freeform game now returns remastered and fully re-written to be better than ever! Boldhome! The impossible city! Capital city of Sartar’s dynasty and for the last twenty-three years occupied by the Lunar Empire following their brutal conquest. While the fires of freedom still burn across the land, the imminent consecration of the New Moon Temple threatens to snuff them out once and for all! It’s the beginning of the Hero Wars. Can your actions make history? A unique role playing opportunity that’s perfect for Gloranthan veterans, those who are new to the RuneQuest TTRPG, and people with just love LARPing, Home of the Bold is a rules light, highly immersive live-action play experience set in Lunar-occupied Boldhome in late 1625. Gathered in the city over a week of game time are Lunar bureaucrats and soldiers, Sartarite client kings and queens, spies and ambassadors and various residents of the city, both reputable and disreputable! The game runs over eight hours on the Saturday afternoon/evening, including a break of one hour for dinner. In a live-action game everything happens in three dimensions - parts of the convention venue are transformed into locations within the city of Boldhome. Some movement around the city will, of course, be restricted according to your character's background or occupation - Lunars enter Geo’s Inn at their peril! Many players enjoy costuming for their character, while some prefer to leave it to the imagination (Director’s tip: even a simple hat looks terrific!). Ultimately, it's up to you, but if everyone costumes up it will make for an amazing spectacle! Home of the Bold is brought to you by the original creators, the Reaching Moon Megacorp (David Hall & Kevin Jacklin). Chaosium’s Nick Brooke reminisces and states, “Home of the Bold was a successful Gloranthan game that worked on a large scale because it gave the players enough information to enjoy themselves, without expecting them to know every detail of the world. It was happy to use cliches and stereotypes, if that made for more fun for more players. It didn't get hung up on small details, and was happy to work with a broad brush.” Join us for this epic opportunity to create new stories and experience Greg Stafford’s Glorantha! Be part of Home of the Bold at Chaosium Con! When: Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 1:00PM EST - 9:00PM EST Cost: $40/player. The excursion is unofficial; they are visiting a dishonoured retired History Professor who claims he has discovered some rock carvings that will revolutionise the field and future research in Trøndelag, Norway, and perhaps even the world... but is that really true? And what will be revealed out there? This scenario is part of the Northern Lights and Darkness collection. Scenarios in this collection share the common traits that they are set in a Nordic country, written by a native of said country, and set in a modern setting. The Hidden People Theodor Helgason ($4.99, 39 page PDF) Takes place in a small town in the east of Iceland, named Blue Whale Bay.
