  1. As part of the process of helping the twins pick some characters I have been printing out the sheets from CHA4035 RQ Starter Set Pregen Folios so they can go through them and pick some out. My Starter Set is still on order and I want to go over some of the game concepts and characters before it gets here. They are taking a heck of a long time to print on my laser printer. I have printed 7 pages so far and it has been more than 30 minutes. My printer isn't a speed demon but this is slow even for it. I decided to have a look at the file and it appears that everything has been saved as a 300DPI CMYK TIFF file. As well none of the pages have been flattened so there are 30+ layers that the printer has to render for each page. I think that 150DPI images would be more than enough for most home printers and I suspect that flattening them would also make for a speedier print job
  2. So my twins have expressed a desire to do some roleplaying in Glorantha. I was originally going to do this using 13G but the paucity of prepared material for the game has made me rethink that and look at the Runequest Starter Set. I am not a big fan of "crunchy" games and so almost all of my Glorantha gaming has been in Questworlds and as such I have not had to deal with the intricacy of Rune magic and POW. In fact, it is one of the reasons why I have typically not played RQ D100 based games. That is a thing of the past now and I have to wrap my brain around it so I can explain it to the twins. Before I start peppering the forum with questions, is there a document, blog post or video that does a good overview of this? Also, it strikes me that the RQ D100 game has a different timing than a typical fantasy RPG? Given the time it takes to get back POW it seems as if the Runequest rules are assuming that the party goes out on a few adventures and then is back home for a season to recharge?
  3. Is the Starter Set still available through distributors? I have had two stores tell me that they can't order it in. Never mind, the third store is able to order it in. Not sure what was up with the other two.
  4. Part of the problem with the Wizard class is that, as @Darby mentions, Glorantha tosses things like Men-at-all at you to complicate things 🙂 It certainly works for a person that wants to focus on just being a Wizard but the setting is filled with characters and societies where that narrow focus isn't something that people do. It is the best path to follow just as long as the player doesn't want to do something "silly"like learn to use a sword. 🙂 Thanks for the comments
  5. Simon was this project released?
  6. Zac Beldan I just checked the page again and it said that the request was still pending. I cancelled that request and initiated another one. Looks like it may have been a glitch
  7. Unrelated to the OP... are any of the Jonstown Compendium Creators Circle mods on the forum? I sent a request to join the group some time ago and haven't received a response yet.
  8. Has anyone given any thought as to how to represent the Malkioni Sorcerer is 13th Age Glorantha?
  9. Automation depends on what platform a person is using. I have many more automation solutions on my Mac than on Windows. So creating a system that takes, for example, a Markdown file and creates a Wordpress post and then syndicates that post to social media is simpler on the Mac. The platform that you use to host/generate the blog also has an important impact. Using Wordpress provides you with many tools that you wouldn't have access to on Blogger or if you were using a static site generator like Hugo.
  10. I think the problem is that everything on Facebook is connected to a user's "social graph". So it returns results based on things that your friends like or share. I once had to ask for a link to a Facebook group because I could not find it using search.
  11. I wrote a bit about this on my blog yesterday https://whatiswrongwithyourdog.netlify.app/posts/posse/ I've actually worked with a few publishers on building workflows to support a POSSE system. Most social media platforms have cut API access (X/Twitter) or restricted it (Facebook) so it isn't as simple as it used to be.
  12. Search is a funny thing on Facebook. It seems to work better for things that people you know have liked or are fans of. So finding a group is easier if people you know are part of it or have liked content form it.
  13. Several issues: 1) Your most engaged fans are not the people you need to engage with. A company wants to expand their audience. Engaged fans know who you are and know how to find out information about your company. Preaching to the choir is not useful work. 2) Putting your content in a single spot that you don't control cedes control of that content to the social media site. As we can see with the Facebook posts, only Facebook members can see them. Even Facebook members are not guaranteed to see it unless they look for it. 3) You have no idea what changes a social media site will make to their service and how that will impact your ability to connect with people on the platform In the same vein as "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take", you don't connect with 100% of the people who aren't on a social media site when you post there. Posting on your own website/blog and then syndicating your content to social media sites means that people can access your content regardless of where they look for it. Most blogs support RSS/Atom and can be indexed by search engines. Social media sites don't and their business model makes no sense by allowing your content to be seen and indexed off of their site.
  14. Well what is a "reaction" and what does that mean? What value does it supply? Does it actually have any value at all? You're also creating an either/or situation which isn't really a solution. Siloing your content in one spot is not a good idea regardless of the size of the silo.
  15. This is another issue. One can talk about the "engagement" you get on a post but Facebook limits the number of people who like a Page who get to see the posts. Unless you advertise the post. Or it generates engagement. A game store I worked for would get 8-10% of the audience for the Facebook page seeing each post. We posted a link to a video about someone shooting arrows really quickly and the reach for the post jumped to 90%.
  16. I was looking through the Well and this forum for some information on Talor and it should also be noted that nothing that is on Facebook is indexed. And even on Facebook their search engine is notoriously bad. Edit: yes, I really dislike Facebook. 🙂
  17. IIRC Catalyst Game Labs got into a similar issue on Reddit.
  18. One way to get the best of both worlds is a concept called POSSE. Publish On your Site Syndicate Everywhere. You create a post on the Well or the Chaosium blog and then post links to it on Facebook and other sites. Then Chaosium controls their own content but still gets to post on social media sites. And then when you reference it on page like the list of upcoming Glorantha books you are linking to material that everyone can see.
  19. It might just be my specific browser configuration (I have a lot of security extensions) but in the past month or so I have noticed that I am totally unable to view any Facebook links without having the content obscured by a dialog asking me to log in or sign up. The forums and the Well both have links to official media and info from Chaosium about Glorantha and Runequest material and I just wanted to let TPTB know that many, if not all, people without a Facebook account can no longer see that material.
  20. I know that we are allowed to excerpt and use maps from the Argan Argar Atlas as long as we put the provided credit/copyright in our products. Is it okay to create a composite map from the book and use that as well? For example, the maps on page 15 and 16 don't display all of Junora. I can pull the vector resources and make a map that does show it all. I just want to make sure that it is okay to use it.
  21. This has all been a very complicated Nysoralian Riddle.
  22. Mostly that they could all agree that they didn't like Arkat very much.
