  1. I really love the Mythras line even if Im not currently playing it. I have a question about your product strategy. It seems that you create a lot of (extremely good) source books but not that many scenarios or campaigns for those. I love to play Mesopotamia, Babyon and in other settings but I - as a GM - would prefer if you built more on the ones that is already published. I think more campaigns and scenarios for - example Mythic Britain - would be more helpful than completely new settings.

You're intentionally using what I said in bad faith: when it comes to the rules as written I try to apply the wording in a way that is fun and doesn't punish my players for doing something that is interesting and that they would like to do. I think it's worth pointing out that there isn't a cult that is solely about archery, those cults with archery aspects are Solar cults which have the additional utility that comes with having a host of other attendant celestial magics. Humakt is THE killer, he is incarnated death in its manifold forms and that's basically it. Sure, it isn't "balanced", but you have a bunch of examples of the writers of the game stating outright that it isn't written around balance, if you want to play a human blender you play a Humakti, the other cults are better at many other things and fill different social and mythic roles.

If you really wanted a Humakti to use gifts or magic for bow (or any other weapon) you could combine YGWV and MGF and create of a myth when Humakt had lost his sword and needed to use another weapon. Perhaps a bow if the enemy was flying or far away. You could then create a subcult called something like "Humakt the archer" and make up a good story of why the PC is am member of that one. Maybe "Humakt the archer" did something that was important for your clan or so.

If you use a subcult you dont have to change the majority of Humakti but just the ones in your subcult. That may only be worshipped in a specific area or clan.

  3. Humakt helping with other weapons than swords sounds like Orlanth giving magic based on other elements than air. An Humakti initiate can of course use other weapons. But I can't see why Humakt would help them with that.  A more generic war god could have magic for all kinds of weapons, but Humakt is the sword god.

  4. I always take 50 +  (PCs stat - opponents stat) x5

When you never needs to use a table. It's easy to remember that an advantage of 3 (ex 16 vs 13 or for that matter 116 vs 113) gives you a 65% chans of success. (As 3x5 is 15 and 15 + 50 is 65).

    A disadvantage of 2 (ex 12 vs 14 or 89 vs 91) gives you a 40% chans of success. (As -2x5 is -10 and -10 + 50 is 40).

  5. I think most players and GM today can handle English good enough for playing games. I live in Sweden and are very glad that the Swedish licensee is going to create new content (about Talastar) instead of translating old books. When I GM I try to translate most game terms to Swedish when I talk to the players. But I dont need the books to be translated. And I am not better in English than the average Swede or Finn (maybe a bit better than the average Frenchman).

This is a big if. RQ2 books were very hard to obtain in France, and almost none of my fellow RQers has any of them. In addition, You would get the campaign, which is present nowhere else.

    Completely agree.

You can buy those RQ2 books as pdf:s or print on demand at the Chaosium webpage. They are hard to find on the site but you write "Pavis", "Rubble" or "Borderlands" in the search field.

  7. Most of the information are available in other books so it would be possibly to "just" reprint the scenarios and some NPC information. That would also make it easier - if anyone cares - to update the NPCs with passions and runes.

I dont really care about passions and runes for NPCs when I run adventures. You dont need "a number" to know that Vega Goldbreath has Devotion Yelmalio. You can keep that in your head when you are GMing.

IF (a huge IF) Chaosium are going to reprint a complete book it should be the Dorastor-book. That information is not available in other books. But you dont need "River of Cradles" if you own the Pavis and Borderlands books.

If (a certain if) Chaosium needs to prioritize I really want them to speed up the process of publishing new source books and the GMs Guide with hero questing rules. That is much more important than republishing Renassaince books.

  8. My PCs will soon meet people associated with the White Bull society in late 1620. I wonder if there is any longer description of the society that is available. I own "King of Sartar" but the information is limited to some mentions.

I know that there is some more information in the no longer available book "Pavis - Gateway to Adventure" but I dont have access to that book. (I can buy it second hand for a shit-load of money and that is to expensive).

  9. I haven't really thought about it but I see the post-moon Glorantha less different. Some Rune Magic (but maybe not all) stops working but sorcery will be there as long as there are runes. And spirit magic will work as long as there are spirits.

But IF (a huge IF) the Great Compromise falls things becomes different. The Compromise is about time and things like birth, death and rebirth. An end of the Compromise could thru Glorantha back to the Gods age. But that is the opposite of "magic no longer working".

  10. There is a lot of sources about Arkat and his war against Nysalor/Gbaji that ended the 1st age. But I wonder if there is any good or comprehensive source about Arkatism in the late 3rd age (the official timeline). I know that it is mostly a "western" thing but I am especially interested in its followers in the wider Dragon Pass region.

  11. Some of my PCs are reaching rune level and I am thinking about the best way to play their promotion. I dont want it to be just a technical step but something that can be role played. There is a lot of good stuff out there about running initiations (especially in SiS and CotD). But I can't find anything about rune levels. So I guess that I will play it out myself.

According to the core rules Vasana is made a Wind Lord by Argrath. So I presume that you need to find a senior rune level NPC to preside over the promotion ceremony. Like a senior Rune Lord Priest or a Chief Priest.

This will probably take place in Pavis in 1620-21 and the cults are Orlanth/Vinga, Humakt and Odayla. I may find something special for the Odayla PC as it is a quite rare cult in Prax. But who is the senior Humakti Swords in Pavis during that time? @Jeffis mentioning an old Colymar tribesman named Vargast in a FB post and we have Derenx the Handsome in the Pavis book. Vargast could be the best fit as the PCs are Colymar in exile.

  12. I think that the system "the One Ring" from Swedish Free League is a quite good engine for Middle-Earth RPGs. But I personally prefer the BRP systems in general. And I like that Glorantha is not a setting that is so much good vs evil. Its more magic in Glorantha than in Middle-Earth, but it is still much more realistic.

  13. My main issue with the Tolkien setting is the strong hierarchy between the species/races. A Vanyar is more powerful both spiritually and physically than a Noldor. A Noldor is more powerful both spiritually and physically than a Teleri who went to the west. A Teleri that went to the west is more powerful than the ones who stayed (Sindar). A Sindar is more powerful than the rest of the elves. The same is true for Dunedain vs ordinary humans. The issues of balance between different Gloranthans cults would be even more pronounciated in a Middle-Earth setting.

I would let powerful Dunedain and elves have access to spirit magic. And have the strongest elves (like Elrond, Gil-Galad and Galadriel) have access to some form of Rune Magic. But its much less magic in Middle-Earth than in Glorantha.

I actually prefer Mythras to RQG for a non-Gloranthan setting. Their weakest magic system "folk magic" is actually what I think Dunedain have access to. And ordinary elves have access to Animism.

  14. One of my PCs (an Orlanthi god-talker) will marry an NPC (an Ernaldans assistans priestess). I am thinking about "playing out" the ceremony with some action. I role-played the wooing (based on the myth about Orlanth wooing Ernalda).

But I wonder if I can find information about Heortling wedding ceromonies anywhere.

  15. I am also not interested in Encounter Tables. They should definitely be in the regional supplements. It could have been good to have encounter tables for Colymar Land in the GM Screen Pack and for the Jonstown area in the Starter Set. But I rarely if ever use them. If I run a short scenario and wants to add an extra battle to fill a session I may add one or two encounters. But not because a table and a roll of the dice orders me to do it.

That right there is the issue! It's not like Chaosium has suggested that HQ is a sideline thing that doesn't really mean much in the environment. In fact, I'd say the exact opposite - that it's something that is an intrinsic and important part of the setting (whether or not players and GMs use it).

Without Heroquesting, would we have even 1/10th of the 'heroes' that are in the books? Even the lesser of those (Kallyr, Leika, etc) had to HQ in order to get to the positions, powers and abilitites they did.

So, yeah, I think not including them earlier was a mis-step.

Exactly. The Starter Set and GMs screen pack describes a lot of NPCs with powers axquired thru heroquesting. But 3 years after the GMSP there is still no rules - or even basic guidelines - for heroquests.
