    Is there still space?

I think Google docs/Discord could do all of this honestly.

Discord definitely would work (I may already be building a server for a potential PbP of mine), but I wouldn't like to try it on Google docs - there's too much of a risk of players editing things they shouldn't.

Yelmalio gets Shield as an associate cult of Yelm.

Would be nice if that was in the core rules.

BRP can have a little Elmal infighting, as a treat

Let's be honest, Y/Elmal/io debates are this board's Dart Wars. They hone our skills (in terms of lore and debate) while also keeping us busy enough that we can't challenge the mods' power 😋

Yeah. I know. Just slightly harder. Especially if the cutting of all other ties is actually taken seriously!

Humakt shouldn't really be seen as the "warrior" cult, but more as the "scary, death" cult. (Runic associations should really be a roleplay thing, and people with a high Death Rune should feel really unnerving to be around).

Yeah, I really wish RQG had upped the Humakti insistence on severing ties, maybe even bringing back the requirement from HQG that you had to cut all family ties to initiate (in RQ terms that'd probably mean removing the Love (Family) passion). Without family support (and for the really dedicated, maybe even clan and tribe support), Humakti are at a disadvantage in a lot of situations. And yeah, the RP aspects of runes and cults should be emphasized a shit ton, too many people, especially new players I've encountered, just look at the cults as lists of spells, skills, and requirements.

  5. One important thing is that Yelmalio is not solely a god of war. Sure, his cult is famed for their mercenaries, but he is also a patron of farmers, and through his association with Ernalda he can grant Bless Crops, something that no other war god can. Especially for those in areas with a high troll presence, I have no trouble understanding how his cult can be so prominent despite its apparent magical weakness. And in those areas with a hostile Darkness presence, I feel he could easily become the dominant god.

Also, light magic can be pretty effective in combat, moreso than most give it credit I think. You ever tried wrapping a Lightwall around someone's head? Or centering a Light on their nose? A blind man can quickly become a dead man. Sunbright gives Shimmer 2 (I know it's only -10% but it's still something), and a commanded hawk can be a valuable ally.

I do think Yelmalio should get something more to help him in combat though. Personally I may end up giving him Shield. Sureshot and True Spear would be appropriate too I think, though I wonder if maybe the reason he's bereft of so many spells it would make sense for him to have is because Orlanth stole his weapons. Y'know, that's probably it.

I have been giving some thought of running a little RQ G PbF game using Classic RQ 2 modules so necessarily a lot less powerful than RAW, set in the year 1611 and a wee bit non canonical. Newcomers preferred because of the classic modules, (I know, anyone without scruples can find walkthrus, spoilers, and even illegal modules scattered all over the ‘net, so I will have to hope for the best). It is tempting, I will have to give it a bit of thought. The work load for a PbF GM might be incredible. Any thoughts on the matter @jajagappa?

Anyway the intention is to be something fun or I am not interested. For what it is worth, it is fun to play PbF. Just started and while a different mindset, then table top pen and paper, it has it’s own appeal.

So, PbP is this ol' skool envelopes, stamps and mailmen, Play by Post—or something new?

Ooh I'd be down for an RQC PbF game. I may not be a complete newcomer but I haven't given any of the modules a terribly thorough read. Oh, and PbP means pretty much the same thing as PbF nowadays.

Responding to the OP, I don't know of any ongoing ones, but it could be fun to start one yourself. The biggest problem I could see with using RQG is combat; with as involved of a system as it is, fights could last for days! Especially if your players aren't consistently online. I'd suggest cutting out some parts of combat, maybe even subbing in something simpler like Pendragon's system. I know there's several successful PbPs using HQG, but one with RQG would be awesome.

  7. Alright. So I went and actually had a look at the Discorporation rules and based off of them what your player is trying to do is not supported by the spell.

"It allows the caster to temporarily detach their spirit from their body and reunite them at will, or after 15 minutes, whichever comes first. The body remains comatose until the spirit returns. When the time limit is reached, the spirit “snaps back” to the body immediately."

So after 15 minutes the character would return to their original body.

  8. Well sure he can possess the dino, I'd even let him cast spells, but there's far more serious questions than that. A Shaman is a hugely important social role, imagine if your pastor (or other important figure) went away for a week and came back as a dinosaur! How will his cult and culture react? How will his god react especially? If he's a Daka Fal or Waha shaman, giving up his Man connection could be tantamount to heresy.

  9. Honestly I just want to know how you went from presenting Elmal as a major god of the pantheon in S:KoH to replacing him nearly entirely with Yelmalio, both socially and magically.

Well, I already know my products will be a ways off anyway... So I'd choose the comic, which would be available in the here and now.... Not the book which *might* be 6 months, or might be 2 years.

It really depends on the offset. How much in resources are taken away from one to do the other. What's the final impact?

Well writing Prince of Sartar would require Jeff to nearly completely stop work on the RQG books he's working on currently, delaying GaGoG and probably the Gamemaster Handbook indefinitely.

  11. In GaGoG Elmal is going to be treated as a minor subcult of Yelmalio, with his only large following being in Runegate. The only differences, as far as I know, are that he doesn't provide gifts and geases and knows the Shield spell from Orlanth. He doesn't have any fire powers and cannot summon salamanders. YGMV, I know many peoples do on this subject, but this is how he's going to be presented in RQG. The other little suns, namely Antirius and Kargzant, will be treated similarly.

I'm curious - why is the East getting a book written up in.the short term, when it appears that many would like to see the West covered in more detail, especially given the significance of sorcery?

(Yes, I understand that the GM book, and/or perhaps CaGoG may cover some, but...).

There's a book on the west in the works too. There's going to be ones for the West, East, an South.

  13. Why should it be possible to awaken a Fetch without going through the education process? A Shaman is someone who has a Fetch, a second self in the spirit world, which gives them greater power within it. The abilities are a package deal with the Fetch. If you don't have a Fetch, you aren't a shaman, plain and simple. What a cult means when it says you cannot be a shaman and an initiate at the same time is that you cannot have a Fetch and remain an initiate of that cult. Worshipping your ancestors does not preclude you from being in a cult that forbids shamans, so long as you are not one yourself, and many cults, such as Kolat and Daka Fal, accept shamans into the priestly hierarchy.

There's a comic strip in one of the rulebooks, I believe (I've only seen it in a preview) where an Orlanth Rune Lord heroforms(?) by shouting psyching him up after taking damage by chanting/saying "I can still breathe." and bringing down Orlanth's storms on the enemies. It's a great little moment.

Yeah that's from HQG, it's a fun panel. One of the most anime moments in Glorantha I've seen 😛

For example why not more American go to burger king with full ceramic armor?! :P

Bold of you to assume we can afford it after paying for healthcare :P

But honestly, the primary reasons are a) it's expensive and b) it's not necessary most of the time. Also, most body armour nowadays can be concealed at least somewhat, so it could be that there are people walking around with it on and we just don't notice.

  16. I think this could clarify the issue somewhat. From RQG: "Dinosaurs are a neotenic group of species descended from failed dragonewts who became entrapped in material flesh. They are associated with the Earth Rune and are sacred to the Maran Gor cult."

This explicitly says that they're descended from Dragonewts and are only sacred to Maran Gor. There's no mention of decent from MG.

  17. As someone living in Texas, I think people may give you weird looks if you went around in plate with a sword, but unless you actually started swinging at people that'd be it. As for the second example, there are no laws in Texas prohibiting open carry of guns save for handguns, which you must have a license for. I can't speak for other states.

  18. I normally ignore both the non-species max characteristic caps and the unchangability of INT and SIZ. It doesn't change how the game works too much, and it gives some more hope to those with crappy starting stats.

    Aloof or flighty?  Pteranodon

Slight correction on this: in current canon, Pteranadons are the result of dinosaurs who realize their sin and try to atone. They make a cocoon around themselves and emerge sometime later as a Pteranodon, sort of a more dragon-ish dinosaur.

I tend to believe that Dinosaurs are and always have been a draconic species, created by dragons/dragonewts and with no real Earth ancestry. They're sacred to Maran Gor, but she didn't necessarily create them. It's like how sheep and cattle are sacred to Orlanth, or how ravens and wolves are sacred to Humakt - they just like them because they represent similar concepts to the god.
