  1. This might interest you.

    Ever wondered what it is like to jump out of an aircraft 50,000 feet above a stricken oil tanker? Or how you’d handle defusing an IED? Or what it is like standing between a visiting VIP and that sniper’s bullet? Well now you can because The Company will put you right at the centre of the action.

    In The Company you play an employee of The Company – an elite independent Private Military Service Provider, a global security concern capable of dealing with any situation from a high octane firefight to the tracking down of serial killers. If you can think of it, The Company can handle it.

    The Company uses D101 games’ OpenQuest rules engine; a sleek and streamlined D100 rule set that enables you to maintain the tempo of your stories whilst keeping the rules simple and in the background.

    * The Company-preview Aug 2010 – Pdf [1Mb]

    The Company Operations Manual contains:

    The OpenQuest rules engine – tailored to a modern day setting, and including combat rules covering all aspects of modern warfare.

    Simple Character generation – enabling you to go from concept to fully finished character as quickly as possible.

    Equipment – a comprehensive list of vehicles and equipment, providing your character with everything you will need to prosecute a successful mission; be that the latest in covert surveillance or the most accurate of rifles.

    The world – in which The Company operates within, the global flashpoint locations that Company Operatives may visit, competitors to The Company, Company customers and organizations that Company customers may come into conflict with.

    Story seeds – covering a wide range of possible genre, from the classic war-story,adventures with corporate espionage, helping with disaster relief and close protection work.

    Two example scenarios – ‘Operation Bluebeard’ and ‘F.I.S.H & C.H.I.P.S’ which will introduce you not only to The Company but to the workings of the OpenQuest rules engine.

    ETA early 2011. Broadly compatible with other D100 systems. Written by Rik Kershaw Moore.

    Just finishing off the layout now ;)

  2. Ok the 'official' state of River of Heaven is that its now in internal playtesting. John Ossoway, the Author of RoH, has the complete playtest rules written and is now running it through with his home group. We're a bit behind because of various real life knocks, but I'm pretty confident you see it by Summer 2010 at the very latest.

    So in short its not vapourware, but you'll have to wait a little bit longer.

  3. Oh I feel like such a proud Uncle! Nice to finally see this one enter the harsh light of public awareness :) On a first skim read it looks lovely.

    Without wanting to sound grumpy, I need to clarify the following:

    But when I contacted Newt (of d101 games) he pointed out that even though it was going to be a free fan project, you can't use any IP in conjunction with the OGL ...and so I changed the title (and various names and things),

    The actual clause in the OGL regarding other people's IP is you can't use any IP - that you do not have permission to use - in conjuction with the OGL, whether the project is fan based or for comercial release. As soon as you do you invalidate the OGL.

  4. Thanks for the kind words guys :)

    Savage North is out for OpenQuest, and I'm working on the next adventure/setting book Life and Death, which I'm hoping will be available at Continuum.

    Talking of which, as well as copious numbers of games of OpenQuest (and The Company and River of Heaven) we'll be holding a OpenQuest panel, entitled "OpenQuest for the WIN!" on Saturday night at 9pm. As well as a general intro to the system and books in the line, there's going to be a few surprises unveiled ;)

  5. Isn't Cthuhu Rising really just Cthulhu meets Aliens, with the serial numbers filed off?

    Yes, there's a ton of free stuff over at cthulhurising.co.uk . Its easy enoguh to run it as hard sci-fi corperate space game without any of the Cthulhu Mythos, in fact one of the free campaign arcs Merchant Venturers is completely mythos free.

    Oh did I mention CR's author John Ossoway is writting the Hard Sci-fi setting "River of Heaven" for d101 and OpenQuest, coming early 2011.

  6. Hi

    I've just received the first draft of Rik Kershaw Moore's OpenQuest powered modern warfare game The Company.

    Here's the low down on the game's webpage http://d101games.co.uk/books/the-company/

    I need a couple of dedicated groups of external playtesters, to really bring out the bits that need sorting out before release.

    Everything you need is in the document that I'll provide, the rules and two short adventures.

    You'll be required to feed back formally on the document, nothing too grievous a quick playtest questionnaire for your players and more detailed comments from yourself.

    The time scale is about 3-4 months since we are hoping to release in the Autumn.

    What I'm not looking for is;

    1. Someone who wants to peer-review or proof the document.

    2. Timewasters who just want to get hold of a free copy of the rules.

    Interested? email me at newt@d101games.co.uk
