If anyone has any doubts, the You Tube Channel is well worth watching. I found it very accessible and interesting. He even makes Call of Cthulhu sound fun to play.

    Of course, I know differently!

Maybe you just haven't played with the right people yet!

Thank you for the support, Cthulhu is so happy he wants to eat you to make you a part of him and therefore stronger!

whatcha all talking ‘bout.... my spell checker likes y’all just fine, Im fact it corrects the misspelt yall to y’all quite nicely. In yet one more fact, I had to force it to accept that misspelling. It did try to correct it.

    Oh my god, I just realized,  y’all must be actually the queen’s good english as that is the english my spell checker recognizes.  My mind has now be officially blown and I look forward to her maj (as well like to call her) inviting me to dinner followed by a nice game of RQ3 (she’s a bit set in her ways and at her advanced age is unlikely to change) and saying to me at the end of a fine evening;

“Y’all come back now, ya hear?"

    Cheers.Y’all!

Would you need to wait for her to eat before you ate?

  3. I made a very similar post in Alastor's scull inn, but I thought I'd make one here as well.

    Hello hivemind!

My name is Daniel, and I just wanted to let ya'll know that ya'll is not a true contraction... Also, I recently created a youtube channel, and would really appreciate it if you came and subscribed. Maybe watch some of my content and all that. I make videos on all types of RPG related things, as well as LARP, the Cthulhu Mythos, Board games, and cool metal music. Thank you for taking the time to read this, below I have posted a link to my channel, and one of my top videos (which is on how to get around "railroading" in RPGs).

Obviously my reviews and tips are just my opinions, and if you don't agree with them, leave a comment letting me know what I can do better! Also, if you have any suggestions or things you want to see my review, react to, or make a video on, let me know! If you also have a channel in this niche, let me know so I can support you!

Hi guys. I am working on a game using the Big Golden Book, but I have always found the Cthulhu mythos fascinating, and my game is heavenly inspired by the mythos. Anyways, I have at least three groups of cultists to work on before I begin my game so, looking for inspiration, I would love to hear about the most interesting and unique cults and cultists that you and your players have encountered in your games and what you liked about them.

    Thanks :)

One cult my players liked was a group of teenagers who had no idea what they were doing. They were cultist wannabes, but still managed to nearly end the world... They were drug addicts, cowards, and utter morons, but their antics were good comedic relief.

    Until they weren't.

There was also a "cult" which basically believed creativity was the root of all evil and had a ritual they would use to drain its members of this powerful force, which a homebrew Great Old One was all to happy to devour.

Both of these were modern day, but could be repurposed for any game you had in mind. Hope that helped:)

Glad to hear you find it to be such a strong system--thanks for sharing this review!

I've never done a LARP myself; the amount of necessary preparatory work (as you detail) is likely prohibitive for me. But I'll keep this one in the back of my mind in case a situation arises.

If I may be so bold, I do have a couple of recommendations for you based on your review. You mention that you've taken a liking to rules light, story-based systems. Neither of these is as immersive as Cthulhu Live would be, but they're both quite atmospheric while checking your other boxes:

    1) Lovecraftesque - It's GMless, diceless, and requires essentially zero preparation to play.

    2) Dread - This one requires a GM, but it's diceless and instead makes use of a Jenga tower. You'd be surprised how effective that is in creating a horror atmosphere driven by, well, dread.

Both of these games are only designed for one-shots, so my Call of Cthulhu group makes use of them to get a session in if I need a little longer to prep a scenario or multi-scenario arc for our regular game. Lovecraftesque works great because of how little prep it requires. Dread still needs some scenario prep, but one of my players usually steps up to GM. Especially if you're getting into something like Cthulhu Live that has so much session prep, these could be good ways to get your group together during the between-session downtime.

Thank you very much for the recommendations, I've played Dread before and plan on reviewing that as well eventually, but I've never heard of Lovecraftesque, I will check it out! Glad you liked my review, you can't beat 10 bucks for a 220 pg PDF which not only gives you the system, but also basically teaches you how to make B horror flick special effects!

If you liked that video, please join the Legion, if you haven't already, as I have a lot of upcoming content planned:)

This is perhaps a bit of a stereotype.

-Age...  Most physicists do their best work in their 20s.  Most labs are filled with youngsters in lab coats, many of whom are very enthusiastic and skilled.

-Must be a non-believer...   While very few scientists would be creationists, they come in all flavors, and alway have.

-Skill bonuses.  This seems fine.  I might suggest that Mathematics is all but compulsory as one of the 2 sciences however.

-Cannot spend points in occult...  What about scientists who are freemasons?  Or who pursue fringe disciplined like parapsychology as a hobby? Or folk like Jack Parsons who was a rocket scientist and a Crowley devotee?  Or Isaac Newton who was an alchemist?  or Srinivasa Ramanujan who was an eminent mathematician and a devout Hindu?

I am not saying that you can't play a stuffy old atheist scientist, but to suggest that this is the default is unfair.

I thought by non-believer he meant a non-believer in the Cthulhu Mythos...
