Alone Against the Static

A Call of Cthulhu nightmare beyond signal range!

Alex and Charlie believe that a secluded weekend getaway in the Black Hills of South Dakota is just what they need to reinvigorate their marriage—but older and darker things than broken hearts exist in the forgotten places of the world.

Will they survive, alone against the static?

Alone Against The Static is a modern-era scenario. It is designed for use with either the Call of Cthulhu Keeper Rulebook or the Call of Cthulhu Starter Set.

Solo Call of Cthulhu in the 1990s

Set in the Dakota Black Hills in the early 1990s, Alone Against The Static is designed for a single player—no Keeper required! You will choose to play as either Alex or Charlie, each of which have their own strengths, weaknesses, and choices to make. No two playthroughs will be the same!

Brand-New Solo Mechanics

Alone Against The Static introduces The Log Sheet to the world of solo Call of Cthulhu play. Track choices you make, secrets you discover, and items you’ll find that aid (or hinder) your adventure with a separate sheet designed with spoiler-free text.

The Log Sheet can also be used as a list of achievements—can you unlock everything there is to discover?

A New Entry Into The Cthulhu Mythos

Included in Alone Against The Static is a new Mythos entity, detailed for use in your own Call of Cthulhu scenarios. You can expand the experience beyond solo play by taking this entity into scenarios of your own making, perhaps even using Alone Against The Static as a prelude for your players!

Available now at Chaosium.com:

  • Full colour hardcover: $29.99 (price includes PDF)
  • PDF: $14.99

PDF also available at DriveThruRPG.

nb Alone Against the Static is not currently available from our Australian warehouse; it should arrive later this month.

What reviewers are already saying about alone Against the Static

"A successful evolution in the line of solo adventures for Call of Cthulhu, featuring innovations... as well as a deep, twist-filled, dark, and terrifying story. In terms of technical aspects, the artwork is top-notch, evocative when necessary and clarifying when appropriate, in full color both in digital and print formats."
 La Biblioteca Orne.

"Alone Against the Static creeps me out... it’s one of the most atmospheric adventures I’ve played, run or simply read from Call of Cthulhu. Highly recommended. Two thumbs up."
 Pen and Paper News.

"I was also pleased that not everything is handed to you on a plate, so even after playing through the game several times, there are still questions that cannot be answered - and often that is what horror is all about. 9/10"
 Poltergeist.

  • Nick Brooke changed the title to Out now in hardcover, Alone Against the Static, a 1990s solo Call of Cthulhu adventure

Have ran the scenario once so far as Charlie, lets just say the dice gods werent in my favor, though I did have fun. Can't wait to use the new mythos entity in one of my games.

Would love to see Chaosium releasing more 7th ed Solo scenarios, have played all of them so far (including the HPLHS solo scenario The Dog Walker). Love the fact that the Solo scenarios allow me to play a game when I want and I dont have to worry about getting a group together to play.

Getting close to a three months delay, any news about Alone Against the Static for the Australian warehouse?

Alone Against the Static will be available in Australia later this month, making their way to Botany Bay this long way round the Cape. As will Call of Cthulhu: Arkham (hardback and leatherette). The longer journey is necessary due to pirate activity in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

That's great! Always looking to bundle up purchases. It makes a huge difference on shipping. Given its March release date, will RQM: The Lunar Way be available in Australia at around the same time?
