  1. I do not think that there should be much of a problem... Of course it depends on the world. It geared for a more hyborian or Mesopotamian type world than a western European style setting.

Actually I was thinking Second Age Glorantha :)

  2. Question about the "Throw Target" skill.

If the target of this has a higher Acrobatis skill, can it be used instead of the Agility characteristic? I'm wondering because I'm a little confused as to how acrobatics is actually supposed to be used in the game…

Hmmm... Not sure I understand your question. "Throw target" is supposed to be used in a combat context. Acrobatics has a wider field of application -- which I would allow a PC to use in lieu of an Agility roll.

  3. 1. I would recommend DL if you want to create your own styles.

    2. I do not think that the Celestial Empire powers are "a lot more powerful" as their use requires Qì point expenditure. Player characters won't have unlimited supply of Qì points (no Power crystals or matrices in Imperial China...)

  4. Hello ! I'm very new in the community. I did this modest mesopotamian contribution to the BRP: if google translator gives weird and hardly understandable sentences, just ask me, I'll try to help with my poor English.

Ooo... It's the author of URUK himself on this very forum!! Praise him :)

  5. Gianni Vacca´s excellent Celestial Empire not only states that ¨in Asia, magic and religion are inseparable¨, but it also lists 13 religious allegiances (drawn from real-world religions) and how to gain/lose allegiance points from each. I´ve only briefly played with Glorantha and RQ3 (the River of Cradles campaign) but I reckon you could do the same, maybe not for every cult and subcult, but for groups of deities like the Lunar Pantheon or the Praxian Storm gods or something. Maybe you could come up with particular allegiance rules for gods which your players actually follow too.

    Thank you thank you :)

I would suggest Allegiances based on loose religious groupings: Storm allegiance, Solar allegiance, Malkioni allegiance, etc. These could or could not be linked to specific Runes, depending on your tastes. That would simply add colour IMHO -- the important mechanism is the allegiance mechanism itself.

PS-- As regards the other thread, the hijacked one (atheistic sorcerers v Malkioni sorcerers), there was a panel at Bacharach discussing this, and the outcome was that sorcerers should be really played as getting their spells from cold logic rather than prayer. I believe there will be something about this in an upcoming Moon Design product.

  6. Has anyone been to Chimériades?

Yes I went to the one in 2009.

I'm thinking of going this year, but I am looking for more information.

The Facebook page and the Website doesn't have any links to airports or travel information, or at least I couldn't find any.

What's the best way to get to Chimériades? Presumably, I would fly to Aix en Provence and then get to Chimériades by train. Is that right?

Philippe is organising a shuttle service from Aix to the Con. Check with him.

My French is very rusty, would that be a problem? I know there are some English speakers going, but are there English-speaking games available?

I think so... Jeff and Fabian are going to be there; Paolo maybe. As for myself, I have started negotiating with the wife...

In 2009 there were several English-language games.

  7. what i'd like to see (if it's not already a blog post) is a couple-paragraph summary of the differences between gaming during the dynastic periods, and earlier when their were noble-types and things were more "wild."

Yes, this is an idea for a post I've had for quite some time. Actually, within civilised areas, Táng dynasty times were probably less "wild" than under later dynasties, especially when the central government couldn't guarantee peace over the whole empire [which is what the Mandate of Heaven was all about]. For instance travelling even on the main roads of the Empire under the Sòng was tantamount to exposing oneself to being robbed -- hence most travel was by the many waterways. Under the Qīng it was so much worse and banditry was so widespread that the biāojú escort agencies came into being (see p41 of The Celestial Empire).

  8. I've seen the Judge Dee novels mentioned various times, can anybody recommend which ones to start with ?

I would say the ones with a full story are superior to the ones with several short stories but except for this caveat, they are frankly all very very good. So you may safely pick any one of them.

I would also recommend you read them in the chronological order rather than in the order in which they were written. Meaning you should start with The Chinese Gold Murders
