  1. I'm not sure Illumination frees you from _everything_

The Guide to Glorantha tells us that draconic mysticism is the same as Illumination (boxed text at the bottom of page 9). I don't think we have any hard figures but I believe there are many illuminated mystics in Kralorela, yet Kralorela doesn't strike me as a society where people run amok doing whatever they want. I think illuminated Kralori still think Godunya has a higher understanding than theirs and that they still must obey or at least respect Him.

  2. To the Kralori, anything non-Kralori is "demonic". In my Glorantha, Basko is definitely Darkness [anyway in East Genertela the main opposition is not Chaos vs Anti-Chaos, but Ignorance vs Splendour, and Nightmare vs Anti-Nightmare].

The Basko-Sekever relationship is more complex. It could be a Kralori construct (i.e., anything anti-Kralori is labelled "Sekever", just like many Christians label as "Satanic" anything non-Christian). TBH there might also be a web of reciprocal influences.

I do know some Japanese characters are the same as Chinese

    (off topic)

These is no such thing as "Japanese characters" -- they are just Chinese characters used to write the Japanese language. From the Wikipedia:

Kanji (漢字, pronounced [kaɲdʑi] are the adopted logographic Chinese characters that are used in the Japanese writing system. They are used alongside the Japanese syllabic scripts hiragana and katakana. The Japanese term kanji for the Chinese characters literally means "Han characters". It is written with the same characters as in Traditional Chinese to refer to the character writing system, hanzi (漢字).

    Korean is.

It's not. For instance, final -s is pronounced [t] -- hence "internet" written inteones in Korean 🙂

But we are deviating. Again, for want of details about the various writing systems, I recommend we use R/W [language] and Speak [language]. Anyway, what good does it do to you to know how to read the Latin script when trying out to figure out the meaning of a text written in Finnish?

  5. the only thing I remember from the animated TV show is that I liked the female characters a lot but that I was confused by their similarly-sounding names (in French they were Venusia and Phénicia)

  6. I'm famously anal about differences between scripts and spoken languages etc. (look at the complexity of the language and writing systems skills in The Celestial Empire); however, for RuneQuest, given the absence of detailed sources about the various languages, I stick to a simple Speak [Language] / R/W [Language] system.

  7. According to various snippets from various panels at various cons, the battle rules in the upcoming GM book will focus on what happens to you as a PC within a battle rather than on the outcome of the battle itself. So do not expect wargaming rules.

  8. Now we had a similar thread on the FB group and the (sort of) consensus was that each spell was different, and even a given spell taught by a different cult might have different sensory effects. But (as always) YGWV and one of the posters said that, as a GM, they allowed their players to recognise their opponents' spirit magic spells based on the sensory effects. I do not -- in My Glorantha a Lunar Bladesharp has different sensory effects to an Orlanthi Bladesharp.

The topology  of Teshnos isn't that friendly for any grazing beasts, whether horses or Praxian beasts.

This is why I was thinking something more exotic, like reptile- or running bird-based (fantasy) mounts.

it wasn't meant as a satisfactory solution.

I'm not saying it is satisfactory. I just remember Greg saying something along those lines at a con.

Personally, whether a Glorathan year is or is not the same length as a RW year doesn't interfere with my enjoyment of the game so who cares.

  11. I do not use RW equivalences in Glorantha because it is a magical world. In MY Glorantha (as someone has pointed out) the Red Moon looks tiny in Kralorela. Why? That's another matter, to which I haven't given any thought, but it's simply the way things are. With the growing Lunar presence in the Kingdom of Ignorance, the Red Moon looks larger there even though the distance is pretty much the same.
