Campaign wise, rogue mistress is ace. I'm about half way through running it atm. Scenario wise I really like perils of the young kingdoms. Game wise I'm using the mongoose elric of melnibone rules based on mrq. But I probably prefer stormbringer plus corum as the default rules set.

I have heard Rogue Mistress is a huge railroad... Is that true? Did you do anything to make it less linear?

  2. I don’t know how many more D&D races are written up for BRP but there might be a few more in Toxandria and also Age of Shadows. Also The Big Damn Book of Monsters (if you already have a copy) will definitely have Drow written up. There was also 3 volumes of All the World’s Monsters and 2 Volumes of Monsters from Legend (Mongoose) that might be helpful.

I recently bought the petersen's abominations hard cover at my local hobby store and I'm really exited to gm the Mohole adventure. It was really nice to download the pre generated character sheet but I was wondering if I had a similar option for the personnel sheet and the general map of the platform. I've been directing pathfinder for the last few years and I'm very used to buy my physical copy and then have access to the digital version of the maps, sometimes at a price but not the full price of the book (which I already own). My experience with chaosium so far has been fine but I was just wondering that it would be ace to have access to this kind of material without buying the whole PDF.

Somebody from Chaosium may check me on this but depending on which hobby store you bought it from (and if they are in Chaosium's program... I forget the name), you may be able to send a copy of your receipt to Dustin and get the PDF... At least I seem to recall this being possible...

I think there's some of that; but honestly, I think the biggest part is folks who have taken on the belief as a tribal-affiliation thing.

And frankly, I accuse both the Right and the Left, here:  people who just follow the herd, as long as it's THEIR herd.

To be clear, I've looked in some depth at claims on both sides, including some of the studies; and climate-denial is bogus.  So while I feel some qualms about the "true believers" in the climate-science camp, I recognize that (a) not everybody has the time, inclination, or background to look up and evaluate the research; and (b) they are a necessary majority to have on-board, to effect real change.

Hey, you’re pretty smart! I think you hit the nail on the head!

Have you ever looked at the original Magic World by the way? It seems you're a fan of it

Oh yeah. Magic World is my favorite game period. Don't misunderstand the book has lots of typos and layout issues and was more than a little rushed but the rules are a thing of beauty.

Hey guys, I'm hoping you can help me out here.

As some of you know, I'm introducing a few of my nieces to tabletop gaming, but I'm running into a problem... Both the nieces are introverts and it's hard to get them to initiate any actions at the table. I wouldn't say they're at the 'social anxiety' level, but they definitely prefer to sit back and observe rather than take any actions of their own. The third player is my wife, who has introvert tendencies herself, but she's trying to lay back and give the girls some room to explore.

So does anyone have any ideas on how to gently coax them out of their respective shells? At this point, we've done the basic tasks common to most RPGs... survival, skill challenges, combat, intro to magic, and social maneuvering... and while there's nothing they really dislike, I have found anything they really like to do either.

This depends on how old your nieces are, but I have found few things better at livening things up that homemade Margaritas.

  8. As a person who has read everything put out by Chaosium and Mongooes about Stormbringer, I found Sea Kings of the Purple Towns to be, by far, the most useful book as it creates a base of operations that my current party has been playing in for 5 years. Myy second choice would be the Sorcerers of Pan Tang.

The way magic works is quite dependent on your campaign and style -- which is why no one is happy with magic systems as they are written.

For my campaign the assumptions are: it is mostly magic-weak, people don't trust sorcery or sorcerers, magic is not entirely reliable, there are many magical traditions, magic requires some preparation and magical power is situational -- extra power can come from certain times, places, objects or beings

I use the equivalent of your Magic roll in the various systems I use, but I haven't used critical successes or failures.

    Systems I use:

    • A BRP adaptation of Rolemaster's Spell Law which contains many lists of spells -- each list translates to a separate magical skill
    • For freeform magic (another tradition) I use a system derived from Maelstrom which is all about adjusting the probabilities of events occurring

They both use skill rolls so could easily incorporate random critical effects, but I haven't.

I would love to see how you converted Maelstrom magic. I did the same thing but finally came to the conclusion that Maelstrom Magic just isn’t that useful. I would be pleased to be wrong!

I bought a spare hard copy form Chaosium last year, and thus got an official copy of the latest PDF direct from Chaosium, which has the same created time stamp (17/07/2015, 17:48:35).

I think, but have not actually done a careful sweep, that there are some further typos and minor omissions that have come to light in the subsequent 6 years.

Big Jack Brass collated / saved for posterity Ben's original errata listing, plus some additional items IIRC, and I think most were included in the revised PDF.

One genuinely constructive thing those of us with access to the latest PDF (mine is called "magic_world_revised.pdf") could do is to comb our PDFs for all such typographical errors / oversights that other users might appreciated knowing about and compile a further errata list.

Such a comprehensive list of typographical errors could also be of use for Chaosium in prepping a PoD version, if that ever happens. It's hard to see they'd want to dedicate the resource to any substantive revision of layout / art, but simple typographical mistakes etc one would hope could be accommodated, and if there's already a robust list to work from it can only make that easier.

That’s a good idea. That would allow some of the more egregious errors to be corrected.

  11. Well I think you already have mentioned it. Have a random effects table that you roll for failures and another more evil table for fumbles.

Plus you might want to look at how Corum did things. Failures in Corum Magic led to chaotic features being imposed on the caster.
