Throughout the book, the Periplus of Southern Genertela recounts the life of an Issaries merchant, as he sails about Choralinthor Bay, voyages to the island of Melib, travels to distant Noloswal, and other places, encountering opportunities and perils, all beautifully illustrated by Katrin Dirim. He walks the streets and visits the temples of Nochet, sails to Karse, Handra, Kaxtorplose, and many other cities, swims down to the merfolk city of Deeper, and recalls a trip to the City of Wonders as a child. nb Martin advises that the book is a work-in-progress and will be updated with even more gorgeous full colour art. 13. Nottingham, UK; Ann Arbor, MI, US — Aug 31st, 2023 — Asmodee Entertainment are delighted to announce that Aconyte Books, the fiction imprint of global games group Asmodee, has secured a multi-year agreement with tabletop RPG masters Chaosium to create and publish brand new novels in their Call of Cthulhu® game settings Regency Cthulhu and Cthulhu by Gaslight. Call of Cthulhu is the revered roleplaying game of investigation and horror set in the 1920s. Inspired by the arcane fantasy fiction of HP Lovecraft and other writers who have added to the Cthulhu Mythos over many decades, this is the first time official licensed fiction has been set in Call of Cthulhu’s acclaimed Victorian and Regency settings. Regency Cthulhu sets the action in the late 18th Century England, where the masked balls and the society calendar are fronts for sinister cultists to further their own dark conspiracies. In the first Regency Cthulhu novel, Secrets & Sacrifices (April 2024), the indomitable Cassandra Wright goes in search of the cruel nobleman who drove her father to the grave. The secrets she uncovers, however, threaten to drive her to the brink of sanity. Author Cath Lauria is a talented Colorado-based author with a long track record in fantasy, SF, suspense and romance – and an unusual large collection of edged weapons. The first Cthulhu by Gaslight novel will follow in summer 2024, revealing sinister forces threatening the very heart of terror-struck Victorian London. More information on this and future titles will follow in due course. Aconyte’s Publishing Director Marc Gascoigne said, “As long-time fans and players of the Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game, we’re delighted to be able to collaborate on publishing novels in these fabulously imaginative settings. Let’s face it – Bridgerton with extra tentacles and Sherlock Holmes facing off against shoggoths – what’s not to love? Our mission to bring game worlds to life with new and untold stories makes these two series a perfect fit for the Aconyte range.” Jeff Richard, Chaosium’s Creative Director, said, “We are so excited to be working with Aconyte on these stories. We can’t wait for our fans to get a chance to read new Call of Cthulhu novels!” Aconyte’s novels are published in trade paperback and ebook format, and audiobook editions are currently under discussion. Distribution to the book trade is through Simon & Schuster, and to tabletop gaming stores by Asmodee. About Aconyte Books & Asmodee Entertainment Aconyte Books is the publishing arm of Asmodee Entertainment, a platform of global games publisher and distributor Asmodee, a member of the Embracer Group of companies. 15. Simon Bray's evocative artwork is familiar to RuneQuest, HeroQuest and Glorantha fans, appearing in such works as the Guide to Glorantha and Glorantha Sourcebook, and stretching all the way back through the Moon Design Publications era to that of the Reaching Moon Megacorp's fabled fanzine Tales of the Reaching Moon. And now Simon is back at the helm of a cherished project based on many years of creative endeavour: Furthest - Crown Jewel of Lunar Tarsh. This is an invaluable resource for any RuneQuest campaign that features the mightiest kingdom of Dragon Pass, whether as a homeland for adventurers or a home base for adventure! As one reviewer has said, this book is "a must-buy, must-read, and even more a must-play! Thoroughly researched, splendidly illustrated, always designed for playability (look at the sewer map for instance! And the indices, both general and thematic), this is in my mind the very embodiment of the fan-driven Glorantha I like." Furthest - Crown Jewel of Lunar Tarsh Simon Bray, Nick Brooke, Mark Galeotti, Michael O’Brien, Chris Gidlow ($19.95, 158 page PDF) The City of Furthest is celebrated as the glory of the Lunar Provinces. One native poet described the city as “a reflection of Glamour in bricks and mortar, not moonlight and dreams.” And here it is brought to riotous life for use in any RuneQuest campaign set in the fateful Eighth Wane of History! Includes a full gazetteer of the city of Furthest, capital city of Tarsh. There is a comprehensive guide to Tarsh, including minor cults, a bestiary, histories and maps. Many plot hooks, major NPCs and a full scenario are included. And maps - so many maps - a huge detailed map of the city, a map of the lands of Tarsh and even the sewers! Also includes a Jaxarte story by Michael O'Brien, a song by Nick Brooke, and art by an amazing team of artists – Mike O'Connor, Patricia Baker, Juha Harju, Dario Corallo, Markku Silvennoinen and Philip McDonnell. What's more, over on Redbubble you can get splendid maps of the City of Furthest and of the Kingdom of Tarsh!
  16. Chaosium Unveiled looks at The Earth Goddesses, the third release in the Cults of RuneQuest series. “As a new-ish GM to RuneQuest, I was worried that I would never be able to "get" the setting. This series of books is making sure I will, and that I fall in love doing so.” — Jay Anyong. The Earth Goddesses is available now in full color hardback and special leatherette version. Also available at DriveThruRPG.
  17. The Vintage RPG Podcast describes the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society's new Arkham Investigator's Wallet as "one of the most fun RPG products I’ve ever laid eyes on, full stop. Get it."
  18. BTW, in my GMing and player character experience, "needlessly" does lot of heavy lifting here.
  19. The Lunar enforced peace brought horses back to the River of Cradles region. RQ3's Sun County describes how one militia company, styling themselves as 'Rogar's Riders', have recently taken to riding horses, but this is seen as dangerously radical. When Pavis fell in 1200 ST and civilisation as-they-knew-it thus ended on the River of Cradles, the Sun Domers' struggle to survive and maintain their identity hinged on convincing the hostile Praxian tribes surrounding them that they, the People of the Sun, deserved to be seen as better than mere Oasis Folk, that the nomads regarded as little more than chattels. How did they accomplish this? Palishon was Light Captain, and then later Count when the 'Solitude of Testing' began. He solemnly told his people, "Things are going to have to change, in order to stay the same." Like their kin back in Sartar, rigorous military training provided a line of defense. But giving up their cherished horses was a key to the Sun Domer's survival. Adapting to their fate on foot at least removed the automatic and unthinking antipathy of all the Waha tribes. The Sun Domers also broke off their long-standing alliance with the Pure Horse Tribe at the Battle of Alavan Argay in 1250, which doubtless contributed the Pol Joni's defeat and banishment from Prax. Whether this was adroit statecraft or perfidious betrayal depends on your point of view. But it is said the Sun Domers' geas "Never let a horse suffer needlessly" originates from this time. More on this here. Throughout the Solitude of Testing Kuschile Archery was still assiduously practiced, because one day surely the Sun Dome would return to glory. You don't actually need a horse to improve your Kuschile Archery Skill.
  20. Because there's not enough horses to go round. That's the point. Praise Yelmalio, you don't actually need a live horse to learn and practice your Kuschile Archery skill.
  21. In addition to a beguilingly splendid cover, Poul Holmelund's modern Call of Cthulhu scenario The Art of Hygge features a Spotify playlist tailored to generate a thematic experience as you play it. The Art of Hygge Poul Holmelund ($4.99, 27 page PDF) Something is indeed rotten in the state of Denmark as four American exchange students are about to find out while they explore the Danish cultural phenomenon of hygge. On the surface everything seems tranquil in the late winter of 1999 as a renowned dancer and artist seeks to guide our hopefull students into the deeper aspect of Danish culture, but looks can be deceiving and a fairy tale ending may not be in the script. This scenario is part of the Northern Lights and Darkness collection. The Elk Jaw Dagger, It Drives 'Em Mad Clio Urquhart, Gulleyflower Games ($1.00, 7 page PDF) “I don’t know who made it, but my dreams grew dark, and the shadows round my cabin grew darker still. The Unremembered ForeverGM Products ($5.00, 22 page PDF) "You awake in your hotel room bed, before you even sit up, you can tell something is wrong. You smell iron in the air. Your eyes open, and you look around. Blood. It covers the bed across the room from you. The blankets are thrown all over, there are tears in the mattress, and there are personal effects around the bed that have been tossed around the room. This is alarming enough, but the real dread comes when you remember going to sleep in this room last night alone. What do you do?" Sensitive Cases Division Patrick Corcoran ($2.99, 68 page PDF) The Sensitive Cases Division (SCD) does not officially exist. It is an informal collection of individuals that are brought together to tackle very difficult and strange cases. There are no official records with the name Sensitive Cases Division (SCD) attached to them. Most people assume it is just an urban legend. Sensitive Cases Division is a supplement meant to provide a gaming table with an organization that has ties to official law enforcement channels but operates in an extra-legal fashion. The intent of the supplement is to provide a ready-made organization, and a set of 10 different pre-generated character types that can be plugged into a scenario. You could always use the Sensitive Cases Division and the characters as NPCS for a rival faction or antagonistic group as well. Eclipse of the Heart Sabrina Haenze, Jack Taylor ($7.00, 27 page PDF) May 11, 1985: It's prom night, Hamilton High seniors! However, with new management and the promise of Spritiualist leaders and occultists on board, along with a cheaper ticket price, the boat is open to many who might want to enjoy a night gambling, drinking, and learning about the darker side of the world. What many do not know is the secret that lays beneath the deck and how a murder on board reveals that everything is not how it appears. Creator A.M. Viers says, "Reviews are appreciated to continue improving the quality of such scenerios. I wish to create many more situations exploring my home, the American Midwest, and every odd thing that exists within it." We Dream of Flying Jim Phillips (FREE, 30 page PDF) A disparate group of international elites have, each for their own reasons, boarded Flight 19 from Los Angeles to Tokyo on a first-class ticket. The flight promises to be a quiet affair - allowing for time to rest, relax, and perhaps even get some work done. The fight is completely full, but an unfortunate coincidence and the all-too-understandable sorrow of a lonely little girl will lead them deep into a mystery from which there may be no escape. Intended as a Modern Day exercise in mystery, character development, and role-playing interactions between the Investigators themselves, there are no monsters to be fought and no cultists to defeat. There is only a mystery, and the question of how the Investigators will ultimately choose to resolve the terrible and fantastical situation they find themselves in. And had this to say about the setting, Greg Stafford's Glorantha, the world of the RuneQuest TTRPG: "You... lead a clan in a fantasy setting called Glorantha, whose real world history goes back to the 1960s, and stands out from 99% of other fantasy games by being good, focusing on anthropology instead of photocopying Lord Of The Rings' tired racial casting and good vs. evil narratives." https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/six-ages-2-lights-going-out-review
