But because 'The Haunting' has been something of a rite of passage for untold thousands of Call of Cthulhu players since its debut in 1981 we decided it was fitting to put that scenario back into the 40th Anniversary Keeper Rulebook. You'll find it there, along with the two scenarios already included, 'Amid the Ancient Trees' and 'Crimson Letters'. Call of Cthulhu 40th Anniversary Keeper Rulebook This limited edition features a magnificent new leatherette cover and dust jacket design. 18. "The one thing I've got to say about the Jonstown Compendium on DriveThruRPG, the supplements' top tier – they are practically indistinguishable in terms of layout from fully professional releases." — RPG Imaginings. Here are three new Jonstown Compendium community content releases that have already received rave reviews from RuneQuest fans! If there are Jonstown Compendium titles that you've enjoyed, please do give them a rating and perhaps even a written review at DriveThruRPG — their creators will really appreciate it! The Queen's Star Akhelas, Austin Conrad ($10.00, 34 page PDF) The shade of Kallyr Starbrow—once Prince of Sartar—asks the adventurers to be her hands in the Middle World. One of the noble Star Captains has gone missing. He descended from the Sky to discover Kallyr's fate. Now, she needs the adventurers' help to repay his loyalty. The Queen's Star is a site-based adventure which describes one portion of the infamous Cinder Pits in the lands of the Colymar Tribe, in Sartar. This sandbox-style adventure gives the gamemaster the tools needed to discover whether the adventurers will use weapons or words to free an imprisoned Star Captain. It is designed for use with beginning adventurers (such as the RuneQuest Starter Set pregens), and to provide from 1 to 3 sessions of play. "A fantastic open ended scenario that incorporates the classic Gloranthan feel with a well fleshed out location. Works very well with new characters, perhaps after they've completed the scenarios in the RQ Starter Set." — Christian G. (customer review). Veins of Discord Finmirage ($6.90, 30 page PDF) An adventure set in the lands of Sartar near Apple Lane. This module brings your party into a conflict between two factions, each wanting control over the same resources. Players will face elemental forces and make tough decisions. Their choices will impact the environment and nearby communities. Relationships with important allies could be strained, and actions will have lasting repercussions. Veins of Discord spans several seasons, and can be run between other adventures. While it's designed for Apple Lane region, it can be adjusted for other areas in Glorantha with some modifications. "Great idea for an adventure and with a quality work overall. The arts are awesome." — Hannu R (customer review). The Voralans Brian Duguid ($11.99, 82 page PDF) This book is for anyone who would like to feature the black elves of Glorantha in their RuneQuest game, and who wants more detail on this somewhat “alien” race. The black elves, or voralans, are fungal humanoids, walking, talking, magical mushrooms. They are distantly related to the other races of Darkness (invertebrates, and trolls). Their relationship to the plant elves, the Aldryami, is explored in this book. Unlike almost any other Gloranthan race, they have a lifelong telepathic link with one another, a mental communion that makes them see and deal with the world very differently. "This book contains some seriously weird-ass shit, and I love it. Voralans are definitely some of the odder inhabitants of Glorantha (even by the standards of a world brimming with odd), and realising them in game terms with such insight and humour, as well as a big bag of crazy, is no mean feat. The authors deserve bags of credit for so ably bringing this particular baby spore to fruition." — John D. (customer review) Plus more maps for your table and VTT games from Mikael Mansen: Glorantha settlement - 21 - LESKOS Mikael Mansen ($4.25, 4 maps) Four maps of the city of Leskos. Glorantha settlement - 22 - SOLUNG Mikael Mansen ($4.25, 4 maps) Four maps of a settlement called Solung. Glorantha Settlement Sog City Mikael Mansen ($4.25, 4 maps) Four maps of the metropolis of Sog City. Glorantha settlement - 23 METROPOL Mikael Mansen ($4.05, 2 maps) This contains 2 maps of a huge city that you can place anywhere you like. Glorantha settlement - 24 Mikael Mansen ($4.25, 2 maps) Small forest village with some of the houses up in the trees. Glorantha settlement - 25 Mikael Mansen ($4.15, 2 maps) A bronze age city (loosely based on ancient Jerusalem). Under the Jonstown Compendium community content license, fans of Greg Stafford's world of Glorantha can sell and share their own material on DriveThruRPG. If that appeals, check out the Jonstown Compendium Guidelines and start creating!

  20. Our 2019 release Dead Light and Other Dark Turns contains two scenarios for Call of Cthulhu dealing with the theme of roadside adventure. The first scenario is the classic scenario 'Dead Light', now revised, where a chance encounter with a distressed young woman leads the investigators into the hideous aftermath of a crime gone terribly wrong. The second and brand new scenario is 'Saturnine Chalice', in which the investigators seek help from a nearby homeowner after their vehicle runs out of gas traps, but nothing is quite what it seems. Our Stream of Chaos team played through the horrors of 'Saturnine Chalice' in this two parter: Episode One Episode Two Dead Light and Other Dark Turns Two unsettling encounters on the road — With the rise of the automobile in the 1920s, people were no longer tied to the railways as a means of getting to distant locations. For those who could afford the relative luxury of a car, the expanding United States’ highway network brought with it the opportunity to travel and see new places, as well as visit those that the railways didn’t reach—and all at your own pace, too. This new edition of Dead Light features new art throughout and the scenario has been revised. We have included five player handouts providing further insight into the plot and agendas of the characters concerned. In addition, the book includes a new scenario, Saturnine Chalice, by Matthew Sanderson, which also takes place during a roadside stop that leads to danger and mystery. Carrying on the roadside theme are six new adventure seeds, each with ideas for encounters on the road that Keepers can use as inspiration for short sidetracks, one night games, or to develop into full-blown scenarios. Softcover: $14.99 (price includes PDF) PDF: $6.99 DriveThruRPG PDF: $6.99 Roll20 version: $14.99 ('Dead Light' scenario $7.99, 'Saturnine Chalice' scenario $7.99)

Play. — Basic Roleplaying (BRP) is a system of core rules for tabletop roleplaying. Whether you’re a seasoned roleplaying veteran or new to the hobby, Basic Roleplaying has everything you need for years of entertainment. What's Inside — Basic Roleplaying: Universal Game Engine is the complete guide to BRP—the same system that powers Call of Cthulhu, RuneQuest, Pendragon, Rivers of London, and countless others. This book contains the core system rules, as well as character creation, advancement, monsters and antagonists, as well as GameMaster advice. A Seamless Core Mechanic — In BRP, success and failure are always determined by the roll of a D100. Comparing that roll to the relevant Skill, Characteristic, Ability, or Power, you succeed if you roll under the target number. This means every stat on your character sheet clearly indicates to you the likelihood of success. Natural Character Growth — Characters in a BRP game evolve based on what they do in-game. If you fire a gun, that skill may increase. If you want your character to learn magic, get better at driving cars, lassoing horses, or even repairing a spaceship, then your character will do so by using those skills! Deadly & Tactical Combat — The core BRP rules present easy-to-learn and equally easy-to-teach combat mechanics that allow players to react to attacks—you don’t just have to wait for your turn in order to have an impact on combat! Conflict in BRP can be deadly, and every roll (attacking, fighting back, dodging or otherwise) is integral. This makes for a thrilling, high-octane experience with a system that does not slowdown the overall flow of play. Build The Game You Want — With mechanics for magic, psychic powers, mutations, superpowers, weapons, equipment, and vehicles applicable to any setting and genre, Basic Roleplaying: Universal Game Engine is adaptable to any world of your choosing—either previously established, or created from scratch. Create your own worlds under the ORC license — BRP’s Universal Game Engine is available royalty-free for personal and commercial use under the Open RPG Creative license (aka ORC license). Use these rules, and focus on creating your worlds, scenarios and even books to sell! *price includes PDF when purchased direct from Chaosium.com and Friendly Local Game Stores that are part of the Bits & Mortar initiative. ^note, Basic Roleplaying Universal Game Engine is currently out in PDF at Chaosium.com and DriveThruRPG. Purchase the PDF now directly from Chaosium.com, and we'll deduct the cost of the PDF when you purchase the physical book. 22. Not that I am aware of, but that doesn't mean it's not happening. While our community ambassadors are happy to assist, community creators can release their work on the Miskatonic Repository without Chaosium's involvement, and do not need Chaosium's approval.
  23. As the announcement at the time noted, the monograph creators retain ownership of their original creations. Monograph creators are free to do whatever they want with their own work - including releasing under the ORC license. They would have to remove Chaosium IP first though. We gave all monograph creators the option of rereleasing their work in our community content programs (e.g. Miskatonic Repository), and said we would waive the usual 250 sales POD requirement, and have community ambassadors assist. No, several monograph creators have already availed themselves of this offer and have published in the Miskatonic Repository, and there are more in the works. The announcement was largely met with indifference. Sales of all but a few of the monographs had trickled down to minuscule figures in recent years. Some hadn't even managed to sell double digits in an entire year (indeed, some had no sales at all in a given year). Meanwhile, although there were some excellent monograph releases, and many that deserved a bigger audience, the extreme variability in quality meant all Chaosium products were tarred with the same brush when someone ever complained about bad art, bad layout, bad writing, objectionable content etc. Often they were pointing at a monograph which had sold perhaps a dozen copies in five years. As we said when closing the program down, the monographs were a brilliant idea at the time, but their time passed, and now we have community content to occupy that space.
