    uhhhhhhh

could I get a little more context for the rape scene, because that may influence my purchasing decision.

It's telling a myth where evil events resulted in people turning into ogres. Hence a cultural tale why rape is so bad and it would be better to die that commit the crime.

Where was RQ5? You cannot find it if you are new to the game.

RQ5 was after RQ4. Mind you not RQ4 the first attempt, which was cancelled by Greg Stafford. RQ4 ended up being the RQ by Mongoose Publishing, followed by Mongoose's RQII...now that was RQ5. However the RQ[4] and RQII/[5] by Mongoose isn't consider RQ by some. Yet RQ4 / Mongoose RQ & RQ5 / Mongoose RQII did have Glorantha as one its settings, but that was Second Age Glorantha, albeit ultimately non-canonical Glorantha despite Greg Stafford's name on many a supplement. Afterwards was RQ6 (not published by Mongoose) but that didn't have any Gloranthan background (apart from some stuff that didn't make it into general circulation).

What could be more straight forward?

We don't call this RQ7 because we find that very misleading. MRQ1, MRQ2, and DM's RQ6 share a common design thread from MRQ1, and going on to MRQ2 and DM's RQ7. The new RQ is simply not from that line of development. It stems from RQ2 (with elements of RQ3) and then moves on, but does not build off the MRQ line. Calling it RQ4 (or RQ2.5) makes that point. Calling ti RQ7 is, in our opinion, more confusing.

I had to agree with your logic. But without you (or anyone else) there to explain it every time someone new picks up the book or discusses it, I doubt RQ4 will fly. Unfortunately RQ2.5 looks the most accurate!

    RQ2G: RQ2 Glorantha ... ?

We'll have to see how involved the prep-work and the presentation.  I could see a relatively-simple layout that let fan-made material (of sufficient accuracy and adequate overall quality) get polished and presented by Chaosium (e.g. in a Monograph-like format) relatively easily/cheaply...  Once there was a sufficient number of cultural/regional Monographs, they could be collected/completed as (for example) "The Esrolian Family Background Pack," etc...

Officially endorsed fan material could accelerate the process, but this will still take quite a bit of time I would imagine.

What might help is some kind of layout of events as done with Dragons Past (DW28, WF15 page 53) where they had the table of events ('Army Activity by Homeland') with each row being a year and each column a homeland. You can then quickly compare events for each homeland over time, and compare across the region. This could present a quick fire way for Chaosium could get the basic back history out there (as well as a quick was for players to get through CharGen).

That is in fact one of the goals - I would love to see plenty of official and fanmade variants of this for different homelands, even different tribes.

It depends how quickly Chaosium can churn out a large enough official variants. Probably not fast enough.

Fan made? Great for immersed knowledgeable fans with time spare to create these homelands. But for relatively new fan (or those not with the inclination to do this work) this could be somewhat of a barrier to entry.

OSR format only takes a few weeks. To get them updated, fully fleshed out, and in the new RQ format means you will wait much longer for them.

OSR format risks making RQ look cheap and out of date, especially to the extra shiny new CoC. Continuing with the OSR format could overextend the nostalgia vibe to the detriment of RQ.

If you are already saying there doesn't seem to be much interest in this format I cannot see the reason to persist.

  7. Definitely not OSR format!

It was nice to have the reprints and the Sea Cave, but others ones should be complete scenarios with Chaosium's new format style. Also in RQC4 rules. IMHO

So I just joined the forums today and I bought the PDFs from Chaosium. Is it still possible to order with a discount for the PDFs...Something like this should have been emailed to purchasers or listed on the site to be fair. Is this discount only available to kickstarter backers?

Looks like the discount option is still open to you when you click on the Backerkit link.

Good idea about Chaosium emailing purchasers.

Have the books started shiping yet?

From the last Kickstarter update it looks like yes and no. The USA distributer has shipped the book to the other (non-USA) distributers around the world. However USA distributer are swamped under with CoC7th Ed and other Kickstarter work which means RQ is having to wait in the queue.

    So sometime soon.

The youngest of these probably had good advisors, but were crucial for the morale fo the troops. I'm not sure they were heroes because of their proficiency in a skill. Just like the 18-year old Jeanne d'Arc who led armies to victory without any knowledge of war (or any proficiency in whatever). Being a hero is not realy related to skill: the others make a hero of you.

Standing on the shoulders of giants helped make people look Heroic at an early age their life, and this happens again and again throughout history. From Einstein proposing Special Relativity from 26 years old, to the Heroes listed by Jeff transforming the world in different ways. All have a skill that is special within the context of the time that can Heroically transform the society we live in. Jeanne d'Arc's might have been Oratory?

Here is how I see RQ-related games, restrained to Chaosium-published ones:

    Sans titre.jpg

If it's restrained to Chaoisum ones that rules out MRQ and RQ6?

  12. All eminently sensible and agreeable changes. However, I would add sorcery to the RQ2 broken list....because of its absence! ;-)

Very much looking forward to giving this a go later in 2016 (fingers crossed).

Pete, turn the book on the side and look at the spine.

Well I guess it really it broke tradition because it managed to do both at the same time!

Maybe it's illuminated or maybe a weird kind of Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principal (it's RuneQuest / it's part of RuneQuest line). Oh, do I qualify as an Outer Atomic Explorer? :)

How hard would it be to use the Avalon Hill books or modules with RuneQuest 2?  I've glanced at the RQ1&2 books, but have never laid eyes on RQ3.  Is it worth getting cheaper AV books or should I bite the bullet and look for the older Chaosium ones?

    Go with what Joerg says.

Also RQ3 supplements reprints could well be Kickstarted (2016?) and maybe made RQ2 / RQ Chaosium compatible. Even if not converted they should be at least cheaper than you can currently get on eBay etc.

Ironically, I think that toplessness or even full nudity in art is usually less titivating than near-nudity done for purely gratuitous purposes. Like wearing a bikini to a battle.

titivating? To make decorative additions to; spruce up. [Alteration of earlier tidivate : perhaps tidy

    Or do you mean: titillating?

Borderlands (boxed): Unfortunately I suspect, this will not be boxed.

SoloQuest - is this to be one (with just one Product#) or three supplements?
