  1. Please note : Due to a last minute change, unfortunately some text in the print book refers incorrectly to the handouts and pre-generated investigators. To be clear, the handouts and maps are in the print book. The collected duplicated handouts and maps, and pre-gen PCs, as well as plain text handouts, do come with pdf pack that accompanies the print book, and are also free to download from the website. But as I say, the print book does contain the handouts and maps.

  2. Hi - Dustin says:

Provided the PDF is the currently available 2nd edition, our website will send them a coupon code that can be used towards a physical version of the 2nd edition. The coupon usually follows a day after the order is placed, just to give the payment time to fully process.

If you have more than one coupon you wish to use on a single order, you will need to contact customerservice@chaosium.com before placing your order. Dustin would be happy to create a special combined coupon code you can use if needed.

  3. There are no definitive means to cure Shrivelling. But, in the vast swathe of Cthulhu Mythos lore, there "could" be a spell:

Blessing of Bast - heals 1D6 HP - perhaps it could also remold skin, at the Keeper's discretion. Perhaps some good service to Bast might grant a direct blessing and curative blessing.

Create Amulet - different versions might cure and/or cover the user in an illusion of health (they appear cured) - but when the amulet is removed, the illusion is removed.

Healing (spell) - a variant might actually heal twisted flesh (although the base spell does not).

Steal Life - drains another person so you can be cured.

    Body Warping of Gorgoroth

    Control Skin

    - are also possible means to "cure" the Shirvelling.

Of course, there's no guarantee with any spell....

  4. The Gaslight books can be used to play Cthulhu by Gaslight, they use the 'core' CoC rules (per the Starter Set) along with Gaslight specific ones. The full CoC Rulebook may be used, if desired, with its range of expanded and optional rules. Thus, Gaslight can be used standalone or, likely for many, alongside the CoC Rulebook.

As someone mentioned above, Gaslight provides a third way into the game, alongside the Starter Set and CoC Rulebook. And like the Starter Set, recommends getting (in time, when you feel you might to delve deeper in the wider game) the CoC Rulebook. Although, there's no reason why you can't enjoy playing Gaslight games with just the Gaslight books for as long as you desire. The aim is to continue to make the game accessible - thus, not needing to immediately purchase the CoC Rulebook to start playing.

Have people played through the scenarios? Do I need to have Gaslight era rules to be able to run "Loki's Gift"? Or will the core rulebook be good enough?

I really wish there had been some pregens for the scenarios in the book.

You don't need Gaslight to play Loki's Gift, it works with standard CoC. Cthulhu Through the Ages https://www.chaosium.com/cthulhu-through-the-ages-pdf/ includes a basic Gaslight investigator creation rules. But, you can just use standard CoC char creation to create Gaslight PCs, just choose appropriate occupations (which are, in the main, like the 1920s ones - professor, artist, journalist, engineer, and so on).

When the new edition of Gaslight is released, you will of course be also able to use the char-gen in that if you wish.

Awesome! Will you be including most of the old Gaslight equipment guide? (I was about to purchase it when the price shot up.)

The players book includes some equipment/weapon lists, but we will be doing a larger Gaslight equipment/weapons book based on the older Gaslight Equipment Guide.

  7. I don't think you necessarily need to make a new rule for this. If a player is using a social skill like Charm, Fast Talk, or Persuade, and says they are using their "winning" APP to help - and you deem it appropriate / they make a good roleplaying effort - you can simply award them a bonus die or reduce the difficulty of the roll. Equally, an investigator with low APP, might use their "less winning" APP when rolling Intimidate, and gain a bonus die, or something like that.

Just out of curiosity, is there more news about the Gaslight setting in 2023? I know it’s coming, but it’s would be great to know more details, whatever it’s.🙂

Hi, we are currently working on the new edition of Cthulhu by Gaslight - there will be a Player book (setting, rules) and a Keeper book (scenarios, seeds, deep setting). Text wise, more or less done. We are beginning art and maps and stuff over the next month, and once done it'll head into the layout schedule.

  9. Per questions above:

p148, the Chase rules example mentions that a bonus and penalty die might be given to the Speed Rolls, but I can find no mention of this in the actual rules. It most likely refers to a rule that was later cut, or perhaps it's simply referring to how bonus and penalty dice can be used generally to modify situations. In any event, it's unclear.

    -       This is referring to p139 – Random Barriers & Hazards – Quote:

If the environment is especially hazardous, such as driving through rush hour traffic in a bustling city or along country lanes at midnight, add a penalty die to the roll for random hazards and barriers.

    -       In the example, they have to climb out of a window, which might impose a penalty, but in this case, it is disregarded.

p383, Abner Wick, Fighting (Brawl) has "Butcher's Knife, damage 1D6 +..." - none of the knives on p401 do 1D6+DB damage; is this an intended discrepancy?

    And

p383, Hector and Carla Fademan, Fighting (Brawl) has "Hunting Knife, damage 1D6 +..." - none of the knives on p401 do 1D6+DB damage; is this an intended discrepancy?

    -    The knife in question is something between a large and medium knife, so 1D6 is used. It is repeated for Hector & Carla to keep things simple for the Keeper.  Ideally, in a future version of the weapon tables, we may add a "medium-large" knife at 1D6+DB.

  10. Go with:

p163, Each time an investigator reels from Mythos-induced trauma, he or she learns more of the Mythos... The first instance of Mythos-related
insanity always adds 5 points to the Cthulhu Mythos skill. Further episodes of Mythos-induced insanity (temporary or indefinite) each add 1 point to the skill.

The note on p417 is a summary that wasn't worded perfectly - but was meant to say the same as P163.

Thus, "first" can be temporary or indefinite  - whichever happens first.

  11. This can be a problem if you did not help to guide the players before they chose occupations - we strongly suggest that you advise the players of the set up for the campaign, helping them - as a group - work out who is who and what their occupations are, so they can more readily form a group. This is also why using an investigator organization is useful (see Investigator Handbook).

In this case, an investigator organization seems like the best approach - what group, club, organization, agency, etc. could all of these characters belong to - to give them a group purpose and unity. Some sort of paranormal investigative group maybe? For those PCs with less of a connection to the paranormal, perhaps in their backstories there are personal reasons why they are involved/interested?

Alternatively - make them unknown to one another, but have circumstance bring them together. Perhaps they are the only survivors of a train wreck? Perhaps they all are having the same dream and that dream brings them together. Perhaps they all see or touched the "thing" and are all cursed and will die unless they work together to end the curse. etc. etc.
